My Crazy Upgrade System-Chapter 49 - 48: Dragon God
Upon passing through the corridor, his eyes fell upon another spacious palace. This one, however, contained four stone statues. They were all in the image of Dragon People—with dragon heads and human bodies—standing at attention on both sides, each holding a different weapon.
A powerful Long Wei emanated from them. The carvings were so incredibly lifelike that it seemed as if they might raise their weapons and charge at him at any moment.
The Dragon Race was a powerful race of Divine Beasts, but none were present here.
However, judging by the Dragon God Hall, the Dragon Race must have once resided here. They were likely forced to retreat due to the relentless expansion of human Cultivators.
If nothing else, humans held an absolute advantage in numbers, completely overwhelming all other races.
As a result of intermarriage, the differences between races grew minimal. The Dragon People before him were one such product, half-human and half-dragon. Nowadays, however, their descendants merely sprout a few Dragon Scales rather than having a full dragon’s head and human body.
’What kind of trial will be here this time?’
Yi Tianyun frowned and scanned his surroundings but saw nothing out of the ordinary. As he continued forward, one of the stone statues suddenly shuddered, shaking loose stone fragments from its body. It then leveled a long spear at him.
"To pass, you must first defeat me..."
Before it could even finish speaking, a palm was already upon it. Yi Tianyun hadn’t waited for the statue to ramble on; he had already unleashed his Star Absorption Technique. As he leaped forward, a terrifying suction force from his palm engulfed the stone statue.
The statue was immediately sucked toward him, unable to struggle free. However, it remained fearless and undeterred, continuing its spear thrust. With a twist of his body, Yi Tianyun dodged the attack, then reached out, grabbed the long spear, and gave it a hard pull.
SMACK!
Yi Tianyun slapped his palm firmly onto the statue’s body. The incredibly strong suction force began to drain the Spiritual Power from within it. In the blink of an eye, it was sucked completely dry!
BANG!
The Array on the statue’s chest exploded. Deprived of its Spiritual Power supply, the Array detonated, and the statue crumbled to pieces.
"Ding! Successfully killed the Guardian Statue. Gained 3,000 Experience Points, 300 Madness Value."
Yi Tianyun released the long spear, tossing it aside. "Of course I was going to defeat you," he said nonchalantly. "You were pointing a spear at me, after all."
RUMBLE...
Then, another stone statue "came to life." In reality, they were just puppet statues, their animation sustained by an Array. Once the Spiritual Power within them was drained, the puppets were completely disabled.
Yi Tianyun glanced up, and the statue’s detailed stats appeared before his Eye of Investigation: Stone Statue. Cultivation Level: Fifth Level of the Spirit Refining Stage. Blood Volume: 5,000. Weapon (Long Saber): High-Grade Mortal Iron. Armor Strength: High-Grade Mortal Iron. Comprehensive Combat Power: 4,700.
Compared to Yi Tianyun’s current Combat Power of 20,000, these stats were absolute trash. He didn’t need any preparation at all and simply charged forward.
After effortlessly dodging the statue’s attack, he pressed his palm against it again, frantically draining its Spiritual Power for an easy kill. He could both gain experience and raise his Skill Level in the Martial Art. ’A hundred thousand Skill Level points is a long way to go.’
’But once this Martial Art levels up, its effects will surely be even more terrifying. The thought alone is exciting. The level above Earth Level is Celestial Level!’
’A Celestial Level absorption ability would be explosive. I bet it would be at least ten times more powerful, draining tens of thousands of experience points at once. Weaker Cultivators would be sucked dry instantly.’
RUMBLE...
After he defeated the stone statue, another one revived.
’Hm, its cultivation level has risen to the Sixth Level of the Spirit Refining Stage? They really are getting stronger one level at a time.’
Yi Tianyun looked at the detailed stats. Each new statue was one level stronger than the last, but to him, they were all just more experience points.
He immediately charged forward and dispatched the statue. As it shattered, it turned into experience and Madness Value that flowed into his body.
After he took care of it, the final stone statue came to life. Its cultivation had reached the Seventh Level of the Spirit Refining Stage, but the outcome was the same: he defeated it with ease.
’So stingy. Even with my Luck Aura activated, they barely drop anything.’
Yi Tianyun shook his head in resignation. It seemed that for good items to drop, the monster itself had to be carrying some kind of Treasure to begin with. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Of course, it was also possible his Luck Level was too low to make any good items drop.
’The Eye of Investigation can be upgraded. I wonder what effects the upgrade will have...’
When Yi Tianyun saw that upgrading his Eye of Investigation required fifty thousand Madness Value, he shook his head in resignation. He couldn’t afford to upgrade it for now; the cost was simply too high.
However, he believed that as his cultivation level rose, he would earn Madness Value more quickly, making it more cost-effective to upgrade then.
RUMBLE...
Once he had defeated all the statues, a large door in the distance slowly began to open. It seemed impossible to proceed without defeating them. In that sense, it was a true trial.
Yi Tianyun composed himself and continued onward. He proceeded with caution; it would be a terrible waste to die here due to a moment of carelessness.
As he walked into the next corridor, he found no traps along the way.
’Looks like I was overthinking things. There are no low-level traps like in the previous areas,’ Yi Tianyun thought with a nod. He quickly crossed through the corridor. After he emerged, the space before him opened up dramatically.
The first thing he saw was a throne, upon which sat a golden skeleton, looking down at him. Even as just a pile of bones, it exuded a terrifying Long Wei that filled the grand hall, an oppressive presence that made it difficult to breathe.
’Such powerful pressure...’
Yi Tianyun’s heart sank. ’Is this the legendary Dragon God? Someone called a Dragon God must have had an incredibly high cultivation level, but no matter how high it was, he’s still just a pile of bones now.’
He used his Eye of Investigation on the skeleton, but he couldn’t see a thing. All its data was listed as "Unknown."
"My kinsman... have you finally arrived?"
Golden flames suddenly ignited in the skeleton’s eye sockets, and its aura surged dramatically.
’My kinsman? What’s going on? When did I become one of his people?’
Yi Tianyun was stunned. ’When did I become his descendant? I’m human!’
’Could he have mistaken me for a member of the Dragon Race? If this is a misunderstanding, then I’m in luck. But on second thought, it makes sense. Who would the Dragon God pass his inheritance to, if not one of the Dragon Race? Surely not a human, right?’
