Chapter 170: Back To Base

Tara didn’t hesitate.

"No."

She pointed at West.

"He did."

Derek nodded.

"He also killed the boss."

Kyle blinked in confoundment.

"...He what?"

Mei spoke softly.

"He handled everything."

Lina stared at West.

"...Alone?"

Marcus sighed quietly.

"...I figured."

The others turned to him.

"You knew he was this strong?" Derek asked.

Marcus didn’t answer directly, instead he looked at West and gave a small nod of appreciation and respect for protecting the others.

West walked past them without much interest in their reactions.

His attention was fixed on the crystallized pillar that they had seen earlier.

Now that the battle was over, he approached it up close to check out the object within.

It looked like small, glowing mirror. It was strange and fragmented but emitting a strange energy.

West reached out and shattered the crystal with a single strike.

The object fell into his hand and and he examined it briefly before storing it.

No one said a word or objected, not after what they had just witnessed. West said he’d pull his weight when the time came and he did.

"That’s fair," Marcus said simply and the rest nodded.

After that, the group spread out again and began collecting everything they could find.

Every valuable item in the cavern was gathered and although it wasn’t a lot, this had been a successful ruins expedition.

Marcus clapped his hands lightly.

"That’s it."

"Mission complete."

The group regrouped with exhausted but satisfied looks.

"Let’s head back," Marcus said.

No one argued as they made their way back through the ruin through the corridors until finally, they reached the entrance.

One by one, they exited and the world flipped again as they emerged back beneath the stream.

The ruins behind them began collapsing and after some time, the entrance vanished.

The night air greeted them as they arrived on the surface.

Everyone took a moment to breathe before heading toward the convoy.

Engines roared and soon the vehicles disappeared into the night as they headed back for Misty High City.

...

...

The convoy rolled through the massive iron gates of the Dragon Fang Gang Base just as the sun started to rise.

The estate stretched endlessly like a mini kingdom of its own.

Multiple buildings stood across the vast land, each designed with a blend of modern architecture and traditional Eastern influence. Tall structures with curved rooftops, training arenas carved into the ground, weapon halls, residential quarters, and administrative buildings all coexisted within the same beautiful territory.

Golden lights illuminated pathways as awakeners moved about in coordinated order.

The convoy came to a stop and the doors opened as the group stepped out one by one.

Marcus stretched slightly, exhaling.

"...Successful run."

He glanced at West briefly.

"...More than successful."

West simply stepped out and adjusted his jacket slightly with a calm as ever expression.

Marcus turned to the others.

"Head to debriefing. I’ll handle the documentation."

The group nodded.

Marcus immediately made his way toward the administrative building, already pulling up reports on his tablet.

Meanwhile, the others stayed behind and slowly, they began to gather around West.

Derek was the first.

"...Hey."

West glanced at him.

"...What?"

Derek scratched his head.

"That thing you did back there... with the boss..."

West raised a brow.

"Which part?"

"...All of it."

Tara stepped in.

"...Yeah."

She folded her arms.

"You’re not just a summoner," she stated.

Mei added quietly,

"You fight like a frontliner."

"And command like a veteran."

Kyle and the others from Marcus’s group had also started drifting closer with looks of curiosity and disbelief in their eyes.

"...Can you give us pointers or something?" Lina asked hesitantly.

"Like... how did you get so strong?"

Derek nodded quickly.

"Yeah—your footwork... what awakened arts did you use...?"

West looked at them before sighing slightly.

"You’re all overthinking it."

They blinked.

"...Huh?"

"I’ve cleared more ruins, including layered ones," he said simply.

"Just let experience do the job. The more ruins you clear, the better you’ll become."

They all stared at him.

"That’s it?" Derek frowned.

West shrugged.

"What were you expecting?"

Tara clicked her tongue.

"...You’re impossible."

But despite the bluntness, none of them felt offended because now they could tell that West was on a completely different level.

And just as the conversation began to pick up, something changed...

The noise around them faded almost eerily... conversations stopped... and movements slowed.

One by one, heads turned and eyes widened.

"...No way..."

"...Is that—"

"She’s here..."

West didn’t even need to turn, he already knew who was approaching.

Footsteps echoed elegantly, slowly and softly as a glamorous figure appeared.

She wore the signature Dragon Fang attire, though hers was far more refined than the others... With a presence that commanded attention, the black combat robe with crimson accents that traced along the edges like flowing flames, complemented her allure even more.

Her long dark hair cascaded down her back, swaying gently with her curvy hips as she walked.

Her eyes were commanding and unapologetically dominant.

The group around West stiffened instantly while Tara’s mouth went slightly open.

"...Why is she here?"

Derek swallowed.

"...She never comes to this section..."

Lina whispered,

"...We’ve only ever seen her from a distance..."

But Zu Li wasn’t looking at them... she didn’t even spare them a single glance, not even for a second...

Her gaze was locked on West.

She walked straight toward him, uninterrupted, until she stood right in front of him.

West glanced at her.

"...What is it again?"

The casual tone... the lack of respect... nearly gave Tara a heart attack.

"I was just about leaving."

Zu Li folded her arms before pouting.

"...Without saying goodbye?"

Her tone carried a slight dissatisfaction as she spoke.

"Your manners keep rotting every day."

The entire group froze.

’Did she just... pout?’

The cold gang leader acting all cute before this guy? Who the hell was he?

West sighed.

"...Fine."

Just like that, tey turned and began walking away together, side by side, leaving behind a group of completely stunned awakeners.

Silence lingered for a few seconds before someone finally spoke up.

"...What just happened?" Derek whispered.

Tara didn’t respond... her brain hadn’t caught up yet.

"...He..."

"...He talks to her like that...?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"And she... just accepts it?"

Lina looked like her entire worldview had shattered.

"That’s the gang leader..."

"...THE gang leader..."

As West walked away, he suddenly paused for a brief moment before turning his head slightly.

His gaze locked onto Tara and with a faint smirk, he lifted his hand and formed a small gesture near his ear.

"Call me..." he muttered before turning back as he continued walking with Zu Li.

"...What..."

Tara cheeks flushed faintly while Derek immediately leaned closer.

"...Yo... he just—"

"Shut up!" she snapped, turning away quickly.

The group watched in stunned silence as West and Zu Li disappeared into one of the inner buildings.
