My Dominant Contract Husband Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 611: Unrelenting Search (1)
The ringing of the phone shattered the stillness in the room. Secretary Lin, having stayed up all night, was slumped over on the sofa, drifting off to sleep when the sound jolted her awake. She sat up abruptly. Beside her, Dong Xin Yan had already been staring intently at her phone. Secretary Lin hurriedly grabbed the phone and looked at the screen—it was a call from the United States.
Secretary Lin swallowed hard, her palms sweating profusely. She took a deep breath, then slowly slid her finger across the screen to answer the call.
"Hello...?"
Dong Xin Yan watched Secretary Lin’s every expression, not missing a single detail. Then, she saw Secretary Lin’s face suddenly turn pale as she listened to the voice on the other end. Secretary Lin’s other hand shot up to cover her mouth.
Dong Xin Yan’s body swayed unconsciously.
After ending the call, Secretary Lin’s eyes shifted stiffly to meet hers. Her eyes were dull and unfocused, and her voice was lifeless as she spoke, "The entire plane... crashed, no... no one survived. Among the names on the boarding list, there was... Mr. Gu."
The entire plane crashed...
No one survived...
The words from Secretary Lin fell slowly and deliberately into Dong Xin Yan’s ears. She sat there in a daze as if frozen in time, the color draining from her face until it was almost translucent.
"Miss Dong, are you okay? Are you alright?"
Dong Xin Yan opened her mouth, trying to say something, but suddenly darkness enveloped her, and her body went limp as she collapsed.
"Miss Dong! Miss Dong..."
-
The whole world seemed to be black, gloomy and dull, without a trace of light breaking through.
Dong Xin Yan disliked this darkness; it was too oppressive, suffocating, like having a hand around her throat. So she struggled to move forward, to reach a place with light, but she seemed trapped in this darkness, unable to escape no matter how hard she tried.
Though she couldn’t leave, she was somehow aware, as she constantly heard voices of all kinds around her.
Like the doctor’s, "The patient is in a coma due to excessive grief and shock, but her body functions are fine."
Or her father’s, "Doctor, you said my daughter is fine. Why has she been in a coma for so many days without waking up?"
Or Secretary Lin’s, "Miss Dong, you can’t sleep anymore. Mr. Gu is gone... You can’t fall down too, you must wake up soon."
And many other voices, all surrounding her ears, yet that familiar, commanding voice was missing.
Why hasn’t he come?
He cared for her so much, always by her side, never leaving no matter how hard she tried to push him away. Why isn’t he here now? How can he not be here?
If he doesn’t come to call her, how will she find the strength to break through this fog of darkness?
If he doesn’t come to guide her, how will she know which way to go?
But... it was she who pushed him away! It was she who didn’t want him!
If it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t have gone to the United States. If he hadn’t gone, he wouldn’t have had the accident, wouldn’t have...
Or, if she had been quicker, a step faster, she could have chased him to the airport, stopped him, and everything wouldn’t have happened.
It’s all her fault... It’s all her fault. She shouldn’t have let go; she shouldn’t have let him go because of a sense of guilt. She shouldn’t have...
