My Dragon King System-Chapter 318: The Demon King Is In The City!
Dragonhold lay in ruins.
Buildings that had stood for generations were now reduced to piles of rubble. The city walls, once proud and imposing, had been torn apart in multiple places.
And smoke still rose from scattered fires that burned through most district.
Bodies of demons littered the streets, with their corpses already beginning to dissolve into ash.
But there were human casualties too.
Citizens who hadn’t made it to safety in time, Soldiers who had fought bravely but had been overwhelmed by sheer numbers.
The cost had been heavy.
In one section of the ruined city, Elena knelt beside Aeris with both hands hovering over the Amazon’s battered form as she channeled the Goddess Embrace healing spell.
But tears streamed down Elena’s face as she did the spell, and her hands trembled as grief kept threatening to overwhelm her concentration.
Nearby, the rest of Ravens Grave had gathered around Katherine.
The captain sat on the ground amidst the debris with Piers’ lifeless body cradled in her arms.
His head rested against her shoulder, his eyes closed as if he were merely sleeping. But the massive wound in his stomach and the blood that had soaked through his clothes told a different story.
Katherine’s face was streaked with tears and her entire body shook as sobs wracked through her.
The others had never seen their captain like this before. She was their leader and the one person they all looked to when they needed direction.
But now she looked broken.
Innis buried her face into Kayden’s chest and cried openly, her shoulders shaking with each sob.
Kayden wrapped both arms around her and held her close, trying to offer what comfort he could even as tears welled up in his own eyes.
Bernard, Fred, Sorkin, Oliver, every one of them with grief in their eyes.
Even Ambrose and Amelia who may not have felt it like the others still had sadness evident in their expression.
For a long moment, no one spoke.
Then Katherine lifted her head and turned toward Laela and Arianna.
Both women had sadness in their eyes as they watched the scene before them.
"I hate to ask this of you both," Katherine began. "But can you please call out to Aiden? Maybe there’s something he can do for my Piers."
She looked at them with desperate hope in her eyes, clinging to the possibility that the Dragon King might be able to reverse what had happened.
He had after all brought back the whole guild from the cold hands of death before.
Then Laela stepped forward and spoke gently for both of them.
"I don’t know how to reach him right now, but I know in my heart that Aiden will come."
Katherine stared at her for a moment, then nodded slowly and lowered her gaze back down to Piers’ still face.
"Okay," she whispered.
In another part of Dragonhold, King Oberon stood atop what remained of one of the higher walls and surveyed the devastation spread out before him.
The damage was extensive. Entire districts had been reduced to rubble. The market square where merchants had once hawked their wares was now a crater filled with debris and ash.
Oberon’s expression was grim as he took it all in, and Thamoryn stood beside him in silence.
"If this is the level of destruction Dragonhold faced, I wonder how the other kingdoms are faring." Oberon finally said.
"We can always rebuild," The Grand Magus said reassuringly.
Then she reached out and placed one hand gently on his shoulder.
"But worrying about other kingdoms even right now, is what makes you a great king."
Oberon turned his head toward her but didn’t say anything in response.
Thamoryn then withdrew her hand and stepped back.
"I’m going to check on those who took refuge at the palace," she said.
She levitated off the wall and began drifting toward the palace district where many of Dragonhold’s citizens had gathered for safety during the attack. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Oberon watched her go for a moment, then turned back toward the view of his ruined city.
A little smile crossed his lips.
——
Vyntis had just finished dealing with Korvax, the Demon Lord of Eternal Cycles.
The battle hadn’t lasted long once Zephron had fled, leaving Korvax to face an Archon alone. It had been over within minutes after that.
A portal circled open directly before him and Vyntis’ eyes narrowed as he sensed the presence emerging from it.
Samael.
But the moment the fallen angel fully materialized, Vyntis’ form shimmered and faded from view.
Samael emerged from the portal with his hand already extended toward where Vynthis had been standing just a second earlier, but found nothing but empty air waiting for him instead.
A frown crossed his face immediately. This was Adam’s doing.
——
Elsewhere, Thera hovered in the sky above the battlefield where she’d fought Morrigan and Akravos.
Her massive golem was gone now as it was no longer needed. She watched as the last specks of black dust from the petrified remains of the demon lords scattered into the wind.
Then a portal opened directly before her without warning and her eyes went wide as she sensed who was on the other side of it.
Her form disappeared in an instant just as the Longinus shot through the space where she’d been hovering almost a second ago.
The spear passed through empty air before returning to the extended arm of the fallen angel who called it back.
Samael had just emerged from the portal with his teeth gritted in fury.
Another Archon slipping through his fingers at the last possible second because of Adam’s interference.
It made him livid.
Right then he sensed Morrigan’s dying presence here
"So this is where you fell, Morrigan," Samael muttered.
But then his senses drifted toward something else. The Kingdom, Dragonhold.
Within its skies he could sense a cluster of powerful presences. High Gods who had gathered together after
Samael turned his head toward that direction as a slow grin spread across his face.
A portal formed before him and Samael floated forward into it, emerging moments later high above the Kingdom Of Dragon
