My Dragon King System-Chapter 346: The Architect Pt.1
The initial ascent was rough. Innis let out a startled yelp as her dragon lurched upward but within moments they stabilized.
The dragons flapped their wings slowly at first, gaining altitude in smooth strokes before picking up speed.
Before long, all seven dragons were weaving through the sky together in graceful arcs.
Laela glanced over at Piers and Katherine as they flew beside her on their bronze mount.
Both had wide grins on their faces now despite their earlier nervousness.
"See?" Laela called over the wind. "I told you it’s fun!"
Rin’s smaller dragon shot forward suddenly as she yelled: "Race time!"
Silverwing surged ahead with surprising speed.
Arianna’s competitive streak flared immediately. "Oh ho!" she shouted with a grin as Belserion accelerated after Rin’s mount.
The other dragons followed suit as their riders urged them onward with shouts of excitement and laughter.
———
While the women had their fun soaring through the skies, Aiden within his throne room, had a key floating above his open palm, rotating slowly as he stared at it.
[The Key to the Architect]
Uriel’s voice from his side then broke the silence . "Are you sure you want to go?"
Aiden didn’t look away from the key. "It’s been put off for a long time. Moreover, this could be helpful. If he’s powerful enough to create this system and avoid detection from you angels, then maybe he could even be an ally against the Herrschers."
"Or a hostile one who has no problem killing you on the spot," Uriel said, stepping closer and taking his hand. "You have children now."
Aiden smiled and turned to face her. He understood her concern, could feel it radiating through their bond. "I know—I know, but Don’t worry. If it comes to that, I’ll simply turn heel and return. I won’t do battle with him in his place of advantage."
Uriel sighed but nodded.
Aiden nodded back, then took a step backward. He held the key up and slotted it into midair. Lightning energy crackled around it and suddenly a screen materialized before him.
[You will now be sent to the Architect]
Aiden saw the notification and smiled. It had been a while since he’d seen the system interface, especially since reaching his current level three years ago.
Space warped around him in a flash of light, and then he was gone.
Uriel stood alone in the throne room, staring at the empty space.
"Be safe," she murmured, then sighed again.
——
Aiden appeared in a strange room.
Bookshelves lined every wall, packed with volumes that looked ancient and new all at once.
Papers were scattered across surfaces, along with diagrams and equations in languages he recognized and some he didn’t. While clocks of various designs ticked at different rhythms throughout the room.
And in front of him sat a man who looked to be in his mid-twenties.
He was hunched over a desk, writing furiously on a sheet of paper while murmuring to himself.
His hand shot up toward Aiden without looking, as though telling him to hold on.
Aiden was taken aback by the casual dismissal, but more so by the man’s appearance.
He wore two different watches on both wrists. A standard white shirt covered by a dark waistcoat, sleeves rolled up to his elbows. To the side hung an overcoat on a stand.
Aiden’s gaze drifted toward the window. The sky outside was a mix of different colors, like what was obtainable in his pocket dimension.
He reached out with his senses and felt... nothing. There was no connection to his universe from here.
So it meant that this place wasn’t in his universe.
Was it within another one? He wondered.
The Architect suddenly dropped his pen and leaned back in his chair with an excited smile. He held up the paper he’d been writing on, admiring his work like a proud artist.
Then he turned toward Aiden with a grin. "Do you know I’ve been writing this thesis nonstop for..."
He glanced at one of the watches on his wrist.
"Exactly five hundred and thirty thousand hours."
Aiden wasn’t exactly surprised to hear that the man before him had been sitting in one place for roughly sixty years straight.
"You’re not what I expected," Aiden said simply.
"Hm?" The Architect tilted his head, still wearing that welcoming smile. "What were you expecting then?"
Aiden paused, considering the question. "Now that I think of it, I’m not sure." He shifted his stance slightly. "Do you know who I am?"
The Architect laughed, a short but genuine one. "There’s only one being I’ve handed a key to my house." He gestured broadly at the room around them. "Frankly, I’m surprised you’ve only turned up now, Black Dragon of the Seventh Universe."
Then his eyes narrowed as he studied Aiden more closely. He stood from his seat and stretched in an almost comedic manner, rolling his shoulders and cracking his neck before walking over.
He circled Aiden once, stroking his jaw thoughtfully.
"But you’re not just the Black Dragon anymore, are you?"
Aiden said nothing except just watch as the man moved around him.
The Architect stopped in front of him and spoke a single word:
"Status."
And Aiden’s full status screen appeared before them both.
Aiden was briefly taken aback, not because he was shocked—after all, this man had created the system, but because it felt intrusive.
Like someone had opened a door into his very being without permission.
Still, he said nothing. Instead, he studied the person before him carefully.
