Chapter 371: Day One: Severance

In every other sector of the field where a Dragonhold mage was engaged, the advantage was theirs.

The strength of Ursula’s celestial magic spell blasts were too powerful. Each time a blast fired from those magic circles, it simply couldn’t be defended against by many.

The sheer force of her attacks carved through barriers, overwhelmed defensive spells, and sent opponents flying back with devastating impact. She scored a good number of eliminations this way, picking off targets one after another.

One of the elven daughters of Queen Arnarra, who had tagged along with Ursula, barely had to do anything at all.

At one point, a group of three champions from another continent attempted to flank them from both sides.

Ursula simply raised both hands, summoned two magic circles at once, and fired in opposite directions.

The blasts carried the strength of small asteroids, and when it struck, all three champions vanished from the field in flashes of light.

——

Then there was the second Queen of Dragonhold, Thamoryn. And that woman was an absolute monster out there today.

Aside from the fact that she could cast her spells faster than most mages due to the nature of it falling under light magic, she also moved at the speed of light.

This was what was truly terrifying about the nature of her magic. She could get out of situations faster than anyone else who wasn’t teleporting.

One moment she would be standing in one spot, and the next she was already several hundred meters away. There was no warning nor build up. Just a flash of light, and she was gone.

During one engagement, a pair of champions had attempted to corner her near the river. One wielded a massive warhammer, the other controlled chains of fire that whipped through the air.

The hammer came down toward her head with crushing force, but thamoryn vanished in a flash of light.

The hammer struck the ground where she had been standing, cratering the earth and sending dirt flying in all directions.

She reappeared behind the fire mage and struck him across the back of the head with a light magic arrow shot.

An attack like that would have naturally burst through his head under normal circumstances but instead, he collapsed to the ground and vanished in a flash of light. Eliminated

The hammer wielder turned and swung again, but she was already gone.

She reappeared above him, and releasing an extremely large blade of light that descended upon him.

He raised his hammer to block against the attack. The tip of the large sword of light struck at surface of his large hammer, but the force of her magic drove him to his knees.

While he still held against the falling blade of light, Thamoryn had vanished and reappeared again behind him, releasing a concentrated burst of light magic that eliminated him instantly.

Tzar, the Supreme Asura of Zahka, who had been a short distance away, watched her fight while handling his own opponents with ease.

"You are quite the mage, Queen Thamoryn," Tzar said in acknowledgment.

Thamoryn turned toward him and inclined her head. "You have my praise as well, Supreme Asura."

She had been watching him too. How he took down their foes without really unsheathing his sword.

Or How a single move of his fist seemed enough to rock the air with a shockwave that sent enemies flying back or collapsing to the ground.

The two exchanged a brief glance of mutual respect before continuing forward.

——

Laying with his back against a tree was a younger looking guy with black and white split hair that fell in messy waves around his face. He wore purple-tinted sunglasses that rested on his nose, and a sleeveless black shirt with a white skeleton ribcage design printed across the front.

And a green gem pendant hung from a chain around his neck, glowing with an eerie light.

This was Zephron, former Demon Lord of Sloth. He appeared younger and quite different from what he used to look like three years ago. As though he had gone through body reconstruction.

However, right now on that field, it looked like he was resting or sleeping. It was hard to say, but his glasses had slid down along the bridge of his nose, revealing his closed eyes. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Two assailants had approached, and they stared at each other in surprise, wondering if this fellow did not realize he was in a Holy Grail War.

These were mages in yellow robes, so they were champions from Valaross. One from Xathia and the other an elf from Elandria.

However, they decided to take the opportunity as this might as well be a free kill. Then, they moved their hands forward and magic circles glowed before their palms, ready to attack.

Suddenly, Zephron raised his left palm toward them and right then, they felt something within them change.

They looked at their palms and tried to cast, but nothing worked and they felt terror rise in their chests. They could feel their mana within them, but they couldn’t reach into it to make it work.

It was as though the connection between their will and their magic had been cut off.

This was Zephron’s demon magic art that severed connections to things, and he had just severed their connection to their magic, making it impossible for them to do anything.

Zephron then opened his eyes and yawned. He adjusted his glasses with one hand and said, "I sat in this place hoping no one would come for me here."

He paused, then added, "Please leave."

The Xathian mage asked, "What have you done to us?"

Zephron replied in a bored tone, "I severed your link to your magic. I’ll only let it return when you go away and stop bothering me."

They looked at each other, and with the fearful expressions on their faces, they began to leave.

Zephron sighed, adjusted his glasses again, and then looked up at the skies toward the Citadel while holding the pendant in his hand.

"I hope that wasn’t enough to draw his attention," he muttered.

He slid the glowing pendant into his shirt so that it wasn’t visible, then clicked his tongue in frustration.

He decided to stand and change positions from where he sat, and move to a different part of the map, lest he be disturbed again.
