Chapter 143: 143 Why are you cursing at people?
Chen Xu had been in the dreamscape for an hour now, and apart from his companion Bai Jinxuan, he hadn’t seen anyone else, not even a corpse.
So when she mentioned having seen a skeleton, he was immediately energized; perhaps there would be some clues there.
“Uh—”
Bai Jinxuan said cautiously, “The thing is, I don’t know the way.”
Chen Xu felt he had been muddle-headed to even consider asking her to lead the way, so he changed his question, “Was it in the area where we just met?”
“Uh-huh, uh-huh,” she nodded vigorously.

“Let’s go.” Chen Xu turned and walked towards the exit of the parking lot.
Bai Jinxuan followed closely behind him.
Before long, Chen Xu returned to the place where they had met.
His noodle shop had been open for two months, and with daily comings and goings, he was very familiar with the nearby roads. The spot where they met was at the entrance of a Western restaurant, not on the same street as his noodle shop.
He stopped and said, “We met right here just now. Think carefully about the places you’ve walked through.”
After pondering for a moment, Bai Jinxuan turned around and pointed in a direction, “It should be over there.” As she spoke, she walked over.
“I remember crossing a street; there was a black car that almost hit me while running. Yes, it was this car…”
She mumbled as she walked. At first, she had to pause to remember the direction, but as she went on, her memory became clearer, and she walked faster.
After walking nearly a kilometer, she finally stopped and pointed ahead, saying, “This is the place.”
Chen Xu had followed her all the way and saw her performance, his gaze softened a bit; she wasn’t all that useless. At least her memory was pretty good.
If it had been him, unfamiliar with the roads and after being startled into a panic, he certainly wouldn’t have been able to recall the paths he had taken.
After Bai Jinxuan finished speaking, she immediately retreated behind him.
Chen Xu pulled out a collapsible baton, snapped it open with force, and slowly walked inside.
If his memory served him right, there were several mobile phone shops along this street, all connected.
He took a couple of steps closer, the movement of his body making the surrounding fog churn, and a door gradually came into view. The ground was littered with shards of glass of various sizes. The sound of the pieces scraping the floor rang out as he stepped on them.
His hand gripped the baton, facing forward, his gaze vigilantly sweeping the surroundings.
A few steps closer, a tall figure suddenly intruded into his field of vision.
His nerves instantly tensed, and he almost jabbed the baton forward.
Bai Jinxuan behind him saw him halt abruptly, she looked up and could make out a shadow, causing her hair to stand on end and she almost screamed instinctively, she quickly stuffed her hand into her mouth to prevent any sound from escaping.
One second, two seconds.
Chen Xu noticed that the shadow didn’t move. Taking another cautious step forward, he finally saw its appearance, a look of surprise flashing in his eyes.
Before him stood a robot.
Over two meters tall with its surface charred black as if it had been through a fire, its chest was ripped open to reveal the metal framework inside, clearly completely destroyed.
Bai Jinxuan peeked out from behind him and said with some surprise, “So it’s not a skeleton.”
Chen Xu didn’t touch it yet, but first made a round in the mobile phone shop to make sure there were no hidden dangers before he approached to examine the robot.
Just from its construction, this robot differed significantly from the S01 model in the previous dreamscape. S01 was made entirely of metal and exuded a sense of mechanical beauty.
This one, its surface covered with a layer of artificial skin or something. It seemed more like a service-type robot, so its combat abilities couldn’t be too strong.
“Is this a robot?” Bai Jinxuan too came over, curiously staring at the metal framework on its body, “Has technology really advanced this far? They can actually make robots like this? I’ve never seen one before. Look, it even has teeth, it doesn’t need to eat like us humans, does it…”
Chen Xu glanced at her, and she quickly covered her mouth with both hands, batting her eyes to signal her innocence.
“Let’s go,” he stood up.
She still couldn’t help asking, “Aren’t we taking this with us?”
“You can carry it if you want,” Chen Xu said irritably. He felt that one day, sooner or later, she would be the death of him.
He walked towards a cellphone store and began searching.
………
Two hours later, Chen Xu walked out of a Western restaurant, stood at the entrance, and looked at the thick fog that showed no signs of dissipating, saying somewhat irritably, “This is seriously fucked up.”
The dense fog obstructed visibility and greatly reduced his efficiency. Usually, he would run into a room and need only a glance. Now, he had to scour every corner; a slight oversight could mean missing a critical clue.
It had been over two hours. He kept running back and forth, only having scouted a few streets nearby. Other than the robot, he gained nothing at all.
Now, he utterly detested this fog.
Behind him, Bai Jinxuan quietly unwrapped a piece of chocolate, sneakily stuffing it into her mouth. Hearing his words, her face reddened somewhat, “How can you swear at people?”
Already fuming, Chen Xu became even more irritated upon hearing her response, coldly saying, “Then don’t follow me.” After speaking, he walked away.
“Don’t.”
Bai Jinxuan panicked, rushing forward to grab his hand.
“Let go.” Chen Xu hadn’t expected her to react so quickly, trying to shake her off, but she clung on tightly and wouldn’t let go. Hearing his words, she shook her head vigorously.
After a standoff, the anger inside Chen Xu cooled down a bit, and he asked her, “What exactly do you want to do?”
“I was wrong just now. I apologize, alright?” Bai Jinxuan pouted looking at him, “Yes, I hid two pieces of chocolate. I was just so hungry that I secretly unwrapped one to eat. Since you’ve caught me, then, I’ll share half with you…”
Then, seeing him look at her with a strange expression, she became frantic, “Are you going to take it all? What about me? You have to leave at least half for me…”
Chen Xu was almost amused to death, “Who wants your damn chocolate, there’s plenty in the supermarket.”
Bai Jinxuan was momentarily stunned, then her mouth gradually opened wide, murmuring, “Right.”
Chen Xu didn’t know if she was genuinely foolish or feigning ignorance, but her ruckus had eased some of his irritation. He said, “Alright, let go of my hand. We’ll rest here for a while, eat something, then leave.”
“You’re not going to slip away, are you?” Bai Jinxuan was still a bit wary.
Chen Xu sighed, Silly girl, if I really wanted to leave, could you stop me?
“No, I won’t.”
Only then did Bai Jinxuan let go, but her eyes remained fixed on him, as if afraid he might break his word.
Chen Xu ignored her and took out a cylindrical can from his backpack, placing it on the ground and pressing a switch, causing a semicircular net to pop out from the top.
After doing all this, he sat down on the ground to rest.
Bai Jinxuan sat beside him, nibbling on the chocolate she had been unwrapping, eating it bit by bit. Midway through, she suddenly said, “I want to ask you for a favor, is that okay?”
Chen Xu’s eyes didn’t leave the cylindrical object, and upon hearing her, he said, “Speak.”
“Next time you scold me, could you please not be so harsh?”
