My Favorite Game Followed Me!-Chapter 648
Chapter 648
Early the next day, Anton took a shower in his suite’s bathroom and, after he was done preparing, used a town portal scroll to return to the Rose Manor. He didn’t plan to stay long since he knew that his father was not there.
The moment he was back, he cast the Blizzard spell, turned Mana Rain to summon Raymond the butler, and when the man arrived, he brought with him a good amount of food for breakfast.
While he was eating, Raymond told him that his father was scheduled to return the next day. Since Anton did not know when he would be able to return to the Rose Manor, he retrieved the Herald of Zakarum shield from his inventory and placed it beside his bedroom table. He wrote a detailed description of the item and gave it to Raymond, and told the butler to give the shield and letter to Anders.
“When will you be back?” the butler asked.
“I don’t know. Probably the day after tomorrow, and could be later than that,” Anton shrugged.
After that, he returned to his suite in New Drennor and immediately dismissed the portal. Anton was a little excited to explore New Drennor. He really wanted this vacation.
When Anton went downstairs, he was expecting the street rat that he had hired as his local guide to be already waiting for him, but the kid was not there. He thought that the kid would be early since Anton knew that serving a wizard like him was an opportunity for a street rat like that pickpocket. After waiting for fifteen more minutes, Anton realized that the kid bailed out on him. So he simply shrugged and decided to explore the city on his own.
Besides, when he thought about it, he really did not need a guide since anywhere he went in the city would be fine and would be considered somewhat of an adventure. The only thing he did before he left the inn was take note of its name, so if he got lost, he could ask around for the way back.
Anton planned to go to the harbor. He wanted to observe the ships and fishing boats there and also wanted to observe the sailors and the porters' daily work. At first, he was a little apprehensive about what he would see at the harbor, since he was expecting that the businesses there would be severely slowed down because the Undead Coalition was roaming around the ocean.
When he arrived at one of the harbors, Anton was pleasantly surprised that the business seemed to be going on normally. There were several merchant ships that were loading and offloading cargo, several travel ships where passengers were going in and out, and even several fishing boats, unloading boxes filled with fish.
He observed everything he could for an hour, but he wanted to know more. Anton was about to interrupt one of the men who looked like he had authority on one of the ships, since he was not doing anything but lording it over the porters. He was not afraid that the man would not entertain him because Anton did have coins, and coins were a very powerful, persuasive tool. Worst-case scenario, he would just overwhelm the man with his wizard rank.

Before he moved to the man, he heard a voice behind him.
“I wouldn’t disturb that man, young master. He’s the boatswain of one of the merchant ships, and that boatswain has a very bad reputation.”
When Anton turned around to check who spoke, he saw that it was a young man who looked the same age as him. The boy was followed by three other boys with ages probably ranging from sixteen to nineteen.
“What kind of bad reputation, and why do you call me young master. I could be one of the hopefuls trying his luck to get a job on one of the ships here?” Anton asked.
The four young men laughed when they heard Anton’s question.
“Young master, even though you did your best to dress as one of those brats from one of the desert kingdoms in Rendindura or Ordura, your costume is much too clean, and you looked like you haven’t worked a day in your life. Even though you're muscular, your hands are like the hands of those pampered nobles that I’ve seen in the rich parts of the kingdom. Your face is too smooth, which means that it hasn’t received any beatings, and your skin is too fair,” the young man said.
“If you treat us, we’ll answer all of your questions,” one of them said.
“Fine by me. Go ahead and lead me to where we can eat the best food here. Price doesn’t matter.”
The four young men became extremely excited and then led him to what looked like a respectable tavern. When they entered, the man at the bar looked sharply at the four young men first, but then one of them signaled the man and then subtly pointed at Anton. With just one look at him, Anton noticed that the man at the bar’s expression shifted to welcoming.
Anton was a little embarrassed that he was easily recognized as a rich young foreigner, even though he thought he was wearing one of the acceptable local clothes. He realized then that it was because he was not recognized as a wizard, since the class protected him from situations where people would try to take advantage of his wealth.
The barman signaled one of the waiters, who led them to a private room on the second floor. The moment they were seated, Anton told the waiter to serve them the best food and drinks that the tavern could serve and to keep it coming until everyone was full. At first, the waiter looked hesitant, and Anton realized that it was probably about his capability to pay, so he gave twenty gold coins to the waiter as a “deposit”.
The four young men’s eyes bulged when they saw the gold coins, and the waiter smiled and promised that the tavern would bring them the best it could offer. When the waiter left, one of the young men spoke.
“You’ve paid too much!”
Anton just shrugged and started asking questions while they were waiting for their food and drinks.
“My name is Anton. What’s yours?”
“I’m Kirk, this is Abdul, Mesono, and Omar.”
Anton had always found it curious that the names of people that he had encountered in this world were all over the place. There seemed to be no theme, and every name possible was used by people. The only ones who had the same names were the ones that came from what he seemed to be the East of this world. At first, he felt suspicious, but when one takes a moment to think about it, the places that he had been to had always been the destination places of different cultures. He decided not to think about it too much since he did not want to suddenly become a conspiracy theorist, like thinking that he was inside a simulation or things of that sort. He was a simple man, and he would deal with his current situation the way he had been dealing with it normally.
“What do you mean when you said that the boatswain had a cruel reputation?”
“I have a friend who tried his luck in applying for a position on that boatswain ship. He even had a connection since his father’s cousin was one of the sailors there. We don’t know what happened, but it resulted in my friends getting crippled. They moved to a farm somewhere,” Kirk said.
