Chapter 702

Anton went to one of the branches of the Ormundan army to get more accurate news about the defensive war between New Drennor and the Undead Coalition. He wanted to make sure that it was fine for him to leave and not suddenly hear the news that New Drennor had fallen or something.

Even though he was a pessimistic man, when he reached New Drennor, considering its size and power, he felt that it would be impossible for the Undead Coalition to defeat the port kingdom in a short amount of time. The situation with Mendoza was different because the kingdom of Mendoza was extremely tiny compared to the two major kingdoms in the vicinity, which were New Drennor and Ormunda.

Thankfully, because of his current rank and the service that he had given, he easily acquired the information that he had been seeking. The war was stable, and everyone believed that sooner or later, the undead would be driven off by the combined forces of New Drennor, Ormunda, and the remnants of the armies of Mendoza.

The information pacified Anton, and he was now truly ready for an adventure. He continued walking towards the North Gate, and because of the distance, he was informed that it would take him several more hours to reach it, but he did not mind. He was enjoying his walk.

While walking, he saw several magic academies on the way, and they were as large, or even larger than Anna’s school. Based on a cursory look, half of the citizens were mages and half consisted of mundane people and other classes.

He would see groups of mages walking about, and Anton sometimes overheard them saying that they were out and about to fulfill shopping requests by their teachers. Some intended to purchase various things, like something as simple as groceries, to magic materials and spellbooks.

The mundane people actually had the same goals. They were out and about to do their job that brought food to their table, pay their rent, and basically cover their necessities. Since Ormunda was a kingdom of magic, one could behold a lot of magic items. There were floating carriages of all types, summoned magical mounts, and a lot of magic paraphernalia, like floating books that were hovering over a specific mage or floating globes, doing the same thing.

There were also various magical pets like fairies, tiny dragons, and more. Anton wondered where he could get one and if he should get one. It would be fun to own a miniature dragon. He decided to inquire of one of the wizards who was being followed by a flying fairy.

“Excuse me, sir. Where can I buy a pet like yours?” Anton asked the mage.

“It depends on what type you want. Do you want one that was captured from the wilds? You go to one of the beast markets. If you want a summoned pet, go to the magic shops. If you want an alchemical one, go to the goblin and dwarven alchemists.”

“What are the average prices for them?”

“It depends, but they do range from 200,000 gold coins to the most valuable ones that one could not put a price on.”

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Anton thanked the man and left. After knowing the average prices of pets, he decided to forgo getting one. If he really wanted a pet, he could create an enchanted tablet to summon a miniature spirit wolf or a miniature raven. If he worked on it, he might even be able to create an enchanted tablet to summon a miniature Dire Bear.

The only reason he was not keeping any of the tiny summons was that Anton did not like the fact that the summons from the enchanted tablets that he created was not sentient. They were like tiny, obedient robots.

For a pet, he wanted something that he could love and would love him back. Even a regular dog would be better than any of his summons. He just could not have a pet because he was always in combat whenever he was out and about, and there’s a huge chance that any mundane pet that he would bring would die immediately. He remembered the two family donkeys. He loved them and was devastated when the ship sank, partly because of them. He knew that his father and sister were also affected by their donkeys’ deaths.

It was noon when Anton finally reached the North Gate. At first, he thought about eating in one of the nearby restaurants, but decided to just get out of the kingdom and continue his travel. He could eat while he was on the road if he got hungry.

There were a lot of people on the road. Some were just like him and were just walking. Some were riding animals. Most were riding carriages. The majority of them were merchant caravans. While walking, light snow fell from the sky. Winter had arrived. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Anton did not mind that the weather was cold. He actually had never experienced winter on the road. It seemed like while their family was running from the undead, they also outran the season. He wanted to embrace the experience of traveling while snow was falling. Of course, he was not worried about getting stuck somewhere. First, he could fly. Second, he had a tiny house with him, and he had magic items that produced heat, which was his Magic Fire Wall stove. And last, he had tons of food and water in his inventory.

If something truly worse happened because of the weather, he could return to the Rose Manor through the use of one of his Town Portal Scrolls.

While he was walking, a cart covered by a tarpaulin, being driven by what looked like a farmer and his son, passed by. The cart was being pulled by a couple of donkeys that looked like Maide and Bailey, the two family donkeys.

“Young mage, are you going somewhere specific?” The farmer asked.

“I’m headed to the kingdom of Enundia to the north. I was asked by my teacher to complete a task,” Anton simply replied.

“Well, you can join us for now. Our family farm is just four hours away. For a silver, you can stay in our farm and eat our food,” The farmer said.

Anton handed a silver coin to the man and climbed the cart to sit beside the boy, who was probably the same age as him.

“My name is Anton. I’m nineteen years old and a novice mage,” Anton told the farmer and his son.

“I’m Carios, and this is Darios. He’s the same age as you. He would be marrying his fiancée in a couple of months. That’s why we’ve been collecting as much coin as we could,” the farmer said.

“Congratulations. May your lives be full of health and wealth,” Anton told the young man, who shyly smiled.

While they were traveling, the farmer talked nonstop about their life on the farm. Anton was familiar with that a couple of years ago; his life was the same. Soon, the snow stopped. The farmer named Carios said that during the next few days, the snowfall would be light enough. It would be a couple of weeks before true winter arrived.

The sun was starting to set when they arrived at the farm of Carios. The man’s farm and farmhouse were surprisingly huge. Given that he was near the kingdom of Ormunda, Anton should not have been surprised.

Anton offered to help the farmer unload the items in the cart, but the man declined. Upon parking the cart, he wasn’t surprised anymore why the farmer declined. Four sturdy, young guys arrived and assisted Carios in unloading the goods that the farmer purchased from Ormunda.
