Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Don’t You Like It?

Caleb Rhodes bit down hard on her lip, a punishment. "Where did you go?"

Nina Wynn gasped in pain. She tried to push him away but couldn’t, so she curled into a ball, doing her best to avoid his touch.

"I was a little hungry, so I went down to the restaurant to get something to eat."

’Eating?’

’The little thing is lying!’

Caleb Rhodes narrowed his eyes. His hand gripped her slender, soft waist and pulled her toward him, sending her tumbling into his arms.

"You really just went down to eat? Why not call for room service?"

His gaze was so cold she didn’t dare meet it. She averted her eyes and said in a small voice, "I was just eating downstairs. If you don’t believe me, you can ask. There’s an order record..."

Caleb Rhodes’s expression was cold and grim, but his tone was still even. "Is that really all?"

Nina Wynn turned her face away, her tone slightly displeased. "Fine, don’t believe me then."

Her small, soft voice seemed very dissatisfied with Caleb Rhodes’s words, carrying a rare, faint trace of anger.

Caleb Rhodes grabbed her face, forcing her to look at him. "Did you call the police?"

Nina Wynn acted as if she didn’t understand what he was saying. Her dark eyes, filled with a mix of confusion and innocence, just stared at Caleb Rhodes.

"What are you talking about, Uncle? What police?"

Caleb Rhodes gripped her small chin, his voice turning cold. "Talk to me properly!"

’She could play games—he’d clean up any mess she made—but he would not allow her to lie to him!’

A flicker of confusion crossed Nina Wynn’s eyes. "Are you saying someone called the police downstairs just now?"

"Yes, someone did. While I was eating earlier, I heard there was some trouble on the third floor. A few police officers came, and the manager went up too."

She asked with feigned innocence, "Uncle, you were just on the third floor. Did something happen there?"

Caleb Rhodes tightened his grip. "Tell me the truth!"

The pinch hurt. Nina Wynn pulled Caleb Rhodes’s hand away and said in a low voice, "Uncle, I didn’t have my phone with me. It’s in the living room."

Caleb Rhodes ignored her excuse, his voice cold. "Nina, if you don’t handle this kind of thing properly, you’ll get yourself dragged into it. The Lawson Family and my brother are behind them. They’re not people you can mess with. Don’t do this again."

He had already arranged everything, and it was all proceeding as planned. Her rash actions now were not only disrupting his plan, but if they traced it back to her, things could get much, much worse.

Nina Wynn bit her lip and said softly, "It wasn’t me."

’Of course, it wasn’t her. She didn’t get her own hands dirty.’

’But wicked people get what they deserve. She had only given things a little push in the right direction, pointing the way for Jenny Collins.’

Caleb Rhodes gently caressed her soft lips and said in a low voice, "It’s fine if you did it, but I don’t want there to be a next time. Nina, I know what you want. I’ll give it to you. Just have a little patience."

Nina Wynn fell silent, resting her head on his chest and quietly listening to the strong beat of his heart.

She used to love listening to his heartbeat; she’d found it comforting. But things were different now.

’Doing this is a way to remind myself that this heartbeat isn’t mine. I’m stealing something that belongs to Rosalind Lowell!’

’I don’t want to be a thief!’

’Everything needs to end sooner!’

A moment later, Caleb Rhodes called downstairs and asked for some late-night snacks to be sent up.

While they waited for the food to arrive, he sat in the hanging chair and lifted Nina Wynn onto his lap.

Heavy snow was falling outside, but the room was quiet and serene, with a small, soft little thing curled up in his arms.

’If they could stay like this forever,’ Caleb Rhodes thought, ’that would be pretty good.’

After a while, the late-night snacks were delivered.

It was a selection of local snacks, but the flavors were a bit bland. Nina Wynn ate a little before pushing the food aside.

Caleb Rhodes had just taken a phone call and was now getting ready to leave.

Seeing that Nina Wynn had only eaten a little, he paused in the middle of putting on his coat. "You don’t like it? If not, I’ll have them send something else up."

Nina Wynn shook her head. She stood up, straightened Caleb Rhodes’s collar, then pressed her face against his chest and whispered, "I want to go with you. I’m scared to be here alone."

Caleb Rhodes glanced out the window and frowned. "It’s cold outside, and I might be busy until very late."

Nina Wynn wrapped her arms around his waist. "I’m scared by myself."

Caleb Rhodes stroked her hair. "Then go put on that big down jacket."

Nina Wynn quickly changed into the thick jacket, and before they left, Caleb Rhodes wrapped a large scarf around her neck.

They were headed to the police station.

Zyler Rhodes and Ivy Lawson were making a huge scene inside.

Ivy Lawson had never imagined that the person who slept with Zyler Rhodes wasn’t Nina Wynn, but Jenny Collins, the girl who followed her around every day like a sycophantic little puppy.

Her carefully maintained image of a delicate, high-society lady completely shattered. She grabbed Jenny Collins by the hair and slapped her furiously.

Jenny Collins didn’t fight back. She just kept crying and begging Ivy Lawson, saying that she and Zyler Rhodes were in love and pleading for her blessing.

Ivy Lawson was so furious she looked like she was about to explode. She kept grabbing Jenny Collins and hitting her, until finally, an officer who couldn’t watch anymore had to pull her away.

Zyler Rhodes was completely sober by now. He was surprisingly calm, watching coldly as Ivy Lawson and Jenny Collins tore into each other.

’His thinking was simple. He definitely wouldn’t keep Jenny Collins around—it was just a one-night stand, something a little money could take care of. As for Ivy Lawson, it would be best if she broke off the engagement herself.’

But he hadn’t expected Nina Wynn to show up.

When he saw Caleb Rhodes walk in with Nina Wynn, the normally composed young master lost his cool.

He tried to grab Nina Wynn’s hand. "Nina, I clearly remember being with you. I don’t know how it ended up being Jenny Collins."

Nina Wynn dodged him, hiding behind Caleb Rhodes and looking at him timidly. "Zyler, you’ve mistaken me for someone else."

Seeing her recoiling attitude and the look in her eyes, Zyler Rhodes grew frantic, practically wanting to swear to the heavens. "No, I know it was you! I was drunk, but there’s no way I would’ve mistaken someone else for you. Nina, what on earth happened?"

As he spoke, he reached for Nina again, but Caleb Rhodes stopped him. "Sit back down!"

His tone was sharp and his presence overwhelming, intimidating Zyler Rhodes into sitting back in his spot, staring resentfully at Nina Wynn.

Nina Wynn lowered her eyes, standing silently behind Caleb Rhodes.

Caleb Rhodes’s icy gaze swept over Jenny Collins and Ivy Lawson.

He recognized at a glance that the outfit Jenny Collins was wearing was indeed identical to Nina Wynn’s.

He had picked it out himself. He thought it suited Nina and the fabric was soft, so he’d had two identical ones made.

Now, Jenny Collins was wearing the other one.

However, because the outfit was meant for Nina, he had ordered the cancellation of all other orders for that style.

In other words, there were only two of these outfits in all of Elysian City.

And the one on Jenny Collins was clearly not a fake.

His eyes darkened. He retracted his gaze and looked at Zyler Rhodes. "Now that it’s come to this, what do you plan to do?"

Zyler Rhodes only had eyes for Nina Wynn at that moment. Without a second thought, he said, "I’ll call off the engagement with the Lawson family. I don’t like her anyway."

The words had barely left his mouth when an enraged Ivy Lawson charged at him.

The farce dragged on late into the night.

In the end, Zyler Rhodes and Jenny Collins were let go with a reprimand, as their situation was deemed a matter between a couple.

Ivy Lawson, however, was temporarily detained. The man she was with had insisted he was a sex worker and that she was his client.

On the way back, Nina Wynn was lost in a daze the entire time.

When they reached the hotel parking garage and the car had just stopped, she suddenly turned and straddled Caleb Rhodes’s lap.

Her entire body was pressed against him, her head resting on his shoulder.

Caleb Rhodes clearly enjoyed this display of dependence. He stroked her hair and asked softly, "What’s wrong?"

Nina Wynn didn’t say a word. Her hand slipped directly inside his clothes, skillfully unbuckled his belt, and tossed it onto the seat.

Caleb Rhodes watched her, his gaze deep.

Nina felt she couldn’t afford to overthink it. She tilted her head back and bit his lip.
