Chapter 244: Chapter 244 Where’s my compensation?!

Ruby leaned slightly back in her chair, giving the ghost space as she explained the second part of the design in a clear, patient voice.

The young ghost nodded, staring a little too long at her face rather than at the page.

Ruby didn’t notice at first, her mind was still halfway on the work, her pen tapping gently on the table as she spoke.

Then, just as she finished explaining—

The ghost shifted his foot, pretending to trip.

"Ah—!" he gasped softly.

Before Ruby could react, he stumbled forward, dropping the papers he was holding and leaned dangerously close toward her lap, as if about to fall right into her.

For a sharp second, everything slowed.

Outside, Julian walked carefully down the hallway, holding a small tiffin box in both hands.

Inside was Ruby’s favorite meal, neatly packed...something he had prepared just for her. He’d wanted to surprise her today, to bring her a little warmth after all the stress she’d been carrying.

As he walked, he greeted a few workers he knew giving a soft smile to Rowan and Eilas, exchanging a few light words about the company’s progress.

But he didn’t linger long because he was excited.

Excited to see her.

He made his way toward Ruby’s office, the tiffin pressed carefully to his chest.

The door was slightly open.

His brows furrowed lightly—she usually kept it closed during work.

Curious, Julian stepped closer.

And then—

He froze.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

Through the crack of the door, he saw it—The young ghost sitting on Ruby’s lap.

Ruby’s face was twisted in pure anger, her hand pushing the ghost off forcefully.

"What are you doing?!" Ruby shouted, her voice sharp and furious.

Julian stood there, rooted to the floor, his heart shattering into pieces.

He barely heard the papers scattering, the ghost stumbling back, because his mind was spinning.

The young ghost fell onto his knees and looked up at Ruby with desperate, greedy eyes.

"Please, Miss Ruby!" he cried out, ignoring the humiliation. "I like you! I want to marry you! I’ll even agree to just an affair! Anything! I’ll do anything—just say yes!"

The shamelessness in his voice, the greed glinting in his eyes...it was disgusting.

He wasn’t looking at her like a witch.

He was looking at her like a pile of gold.

Julian’s hands tightened around the tiffin box. He didn’t say a word at first.

He simply bent down, placed the tiffin box carefully on the floor, his hands trembling slightly and then marched into the room without hesitation.

The young ghost froze when he saw him. He knew who Julian was. Everyone in the company knew—Julian, one of Ruby’s husbands.

But jealousy flared up inside him anyway. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

His greedy heart twisted.

He stood up quickly, brushing off his robes and puffing out his chest.

"I’m better looking than him!" he blurted out, his voice rising, desperate to snatch some pride back. "I’m better than him! I have a better face, better body! Why would you pick him?!"

Snap!

Julian rushed forward and slapped him hard across the face.

The sound echoed sharply in the quiet office.

The young ghost stumbled back, holding his cheek in shock, staring wide-eyed at Julian.

"People like you," Julian shouted, his voice trembling with emotion, "only see money! Only know how to seduce others with your face! You don’t know anything about loyalty or love!"

The ghost stammered, still unwilling to accept reality.

"But—but—I’m still better looking—" he cried desperately, his pride cracking. "Maybe if you spent more time with me you’d understand—"

Ruby’s eyes turned cold.

So cold that even the ghost shivered.

She stepped forward.

Her voice sharp and disgusted.

"Yes. You’re good looking."

Julian’s heart nearly stopped hearing those words.

The young ghost smiled for a second.

But then Ruby’s next words cut like a blade.

"However, your heart is ugly.

You’re seeing only money.

But he—" she pointed toward Julian, her voice softening only a little, "—he struggled with me when I had nothing. He stood by me when I lived in a slum house. He stayed when there was no gold to offer."

Her red eyes narrowed.

"You? You would have left the moment life became ugly. You would have run."

She shook her head slowly, disappointment heavy in every word.

"From now on don’t appear here again. You’re fired."

The ghost gasped, his mouth opening and closing.

Outside the office, a crowd of workers had gathered.

Rowan, Eilas, and the others, standing awkwardly, exchanging stunned glances.

Ruby turned slightly, lifted her hand, and silently gestured them all to leave.

The workers quickly scattered, understanding it wasn’t a moment they should stay to watch.

Inside the office, the silence pressed down heavy.

The young ghost clutched his cheek, shame and defeat crashing over him in waves.

And Ruby didn’t spare him another glance.

Her focus was entirely on Julian, whose shoulders were trembling...not from anger now, but from the overwhelming storm inside his chest.

The ghost, his pride shattered into dust, stumbled out of the office, running down the hallway without daring to look back.

Silence settled again.

Ruby finally turned her eyes toward Julian, expecting him to be quietly hurt like always.

But instead—

Julian was staring at her, his soft chest heaving a little, his fists clenched at his sides.

And then he spoke.

"If I do anything you don’t like... it’s my heat hormones acting up!" he declared sharply, his voice trembling with emotion.

Before Ruby could even process that, he marched toward her.

Her heart skipped a beat.

For a split second, she thought—

Is he going to slap me?

But no.

Julian stopped right in front of her, reached out with both hands, grabbed her head gently and bit her nose.

Not hard.

Not painful.

Just a tiny, angry, adorable nibble.

Ruby froze.

Her red eyes blinked wide open in shock.

Meanwhile, Julian, his face flushed red, started scolding her between tiny angry huffs:

"You’re so good looking! Who do you think you are?!" he grumbled, still holding her head. "Wherever you go—you attract any ghost! Huhh!!"

He bit her nose again lightly, glaring at her with teary frustration.

"And I—I was always fighting, fighting, fighting for you! Because I’m your husband!" he continued, his voice cracking. "But I’m the only one who knows how you don’t even sleep with me—and I have to bear it! Huh?! Where’s my compensation?!"

He bit her nose one more time, more like a pouty child than an angry man.

Ruby’s heart skipped several beats.

She stared at him, dazed.

How could he look so adorable when he was angry?

His cheeks were pink, his soft blue hair slightly messy, his brows furrowed deeply as he demanded answers from her.

"Huh?? Tell me!" he shouted again, but there was no real anger.
