Chapter 628: S3 South African Grand Prix. 6

XXX— Buoso Di Renzo

Di Renzo’s deadly crash sent a jolt through the circuit, stunning drivers, shocking teams.

The silence that ended the impact and the noise of the circuit, made the moment unforgettable—for Di Renzo, and for the thousands who watched him tumble into shards and debris.

But the most heavy thing about it was how it alone changed the trajectory of the race.

Red flag. Time consuming. It was a brutal interruption.

It slowed down a race that was sharpening toward its final set of laps, tension building naturally. Now, the spark was gone, including the hard-earned gaps as the field was compressed into one restless queue.

For a driver like Luca, who had done his best to be indomitable in P1, they scorned the crash more than Jackson Racing themselves.

The upside was opportunity. Most of the grid seized the lengthy safety car parade to complete their second stops, and get their machines fortified for the last run.

Determined to protect P1, Luca stayed out.

<Wear Control> had become second nature to him, a quiet mastery that let him stretch life from fading compounds.

At (24) he was good to go!

This would be his first race with a single stop, and he was aiming for more!

"..and the good news is the flags have been lifted—finally. After a long delay, a heavy crash, we are set for racing once again here in South Africa..."

"...you have to hope the race can recover its rhythm after that interruption, and thoughts remain with Jackson Racing after such a violent incident..."

"...the safety car is back out on track now, gathering the field for one final time.. weaving, warming the tyres, temperatures creeping back in. This is where nerves really start to show..."

"WOOOOOOHHHH!"

"...and there it goes–the safety car peels off into the pitlane...!"

"...Rennick now controls the pace at the front. The tempo-setter now leads the pack through another formation lap. Eyes fixed on his rear, engines snarling behind him. We are moments away from the restart, and Rennick is the man everyone will be watching..."

**You control the restart. Temps are good, tyres are in the window**

**Everyone will be aggressive, especially Antonio. No risks. Protect the inside. This is your race**

The Z24 performed like its senior counterpart, the JRX-97, accelerating like a freight train as the track opened up, quicker in speed, and even quicker toward the home straight and the long-awaited resumption.

Luca let it loose. Behind him, the chain reaction of speed spread out disjointedly, leaving the crowd tensed and excited. What a restart.

"...Rennick never disappoints as we’re back underway here at the South African Grand Prix...!"

"...We’ve had a welcome scarcity of major incidents in recent races, but Di Renzo’s fatal crash had brought that run to an end. Let’s hope that’s the last interruption we see. The cleaner the races, the more we watch uninterrupted masterclass...!"

"WOOOOHHHHH!"

[Lap 48]

The race had fully resumed, the surge was on, and Luca’s start set the tone.

His Ferrari lunged with meaning, inspiring the cars behind as the new lap unfolded in whirlwind sequence.

In the mid-pack, about P14 to P19, overtakes didn’t take long before they erupted, forged from wheel-to-wheel battles too close for luxury, flashing across the track.

Up front, the fight for position was saggier, but no less fierce. Every driver knew that gaps erased by the safety car could disappear in an instant. If you couldn’t take advantage of it now, then when?

P1, Luca kept his eyes rapt and focused, his attention on the system readings, the track, team edicts, and, most importantly, his mirrors, aware of the hunters lurking behind, mirroring his high speeds.

Luigi in P2 looked like a big threat, but he wasn’t alone in that danger zone. The driver behind him was also a hassle, and that driver, too, had pressure to deal with from behind.

And the chain continued backward through the field.

But as the opening burst of speed faded, the circuit began to bite at the racers. Hairpins. Steep sweeps. Uneven asphalt. That was when the illusion of uniformity cracked.

Differences in machinery and driver craft surfaced distinctly, forcing lines to diverge, and returning the natural order of racing to control rather than outright chaos.

[52nd Lap]

Luca was one of the few drivers able to balance his handling in clean air.

With no rival ahead, <Racer’s Ascendancy> offered little value, so he fell back on manual control, accommodating multiple skills into his cognitive radius at once.

[Intelligence: 48]

<Gripper> kept the tires practically bonded to the asphalt through every edge and camber change, while <Track Awareness> and <Spatial Awareness> stretched his perception so far that he was alert to movements more than a hundred feet away.

’I am loaded,’ Luca confirmed as he pushed beyond conservative speeds to extend his lead. He could see himself lifting the SA Grand Prix trophy already.

[55th Lap]

With Luigi lurking behind, complacency could be fatal for Luca.

He proved his faculty with how wonderfully he outmaneuvered Ailbeart Morieach.

"...Luigi in P2, AIlbeart Moireach in P3....!" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"WOOOOOOOOOOHHHH!"

On the run toward the late kinks at the end of Lap 54 for the leaders, the orange Renault strung wide on Luigi’s right, daring a blurring sweep that drew gasps from the closest stand.

Shockingly, Moireach looked more dangerous to Luigi than either was to Luca.

Luigi yielded space, inviting the move, allowing him all the comfort of space—but in doing so, he robbed Moireach of all kinds of stability.

As the Renault cut back, claiming P2 for a heartbeat, Luigi sliced through on the alternate line.

The switch happened in just a single second. Spectacular!

**Outstanding, Antonio. Absolutely textbook awareness there. Great patience, great control**

**Ailbeart’s pace has dropped after that move; he’s compromised now**

**This is it. You and Luca. 1.5. You’re doing everything right. Now, win it**

It was a moment to appreciate: good racing from Luigi. But with it came more.

Slowly, they realized that Luigi and Luca had separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Greatness chasing greatness.

The crowd felt the tension, and a surge of noise rolled with the wind through Kyalami, thick with rubber, heat, and fuel.

As Luigi peered earnestly through his visor at the red Ferrari ahead, Luca glanced back through his mirrors.

No words. No gestures.

But despite moving at top speeds, their gazes met.
