My Formula 1 System-Chapter 631: Shocking P2 Finish
After sixty-five laps, a sense of pure joie de vivre swept the globe as the South African Grand Prix reached its conclusion.
The race had given as much as it had taken. It was a sweepstake of momentum and misfortune—a display of F1 racing in its richest form. By the time the chequered flag fell, nothing about the finishing order felt accidental.
Across the world, analysis, debate, and awe emanated from media channels without wasting a single second. Narratives were already being spun, hyperbolizing the drama or magnifying specific moments to push a chosen headline.
But one narrative remained undeniable: the winner of the South African GP.
Resilient, relentless, and composed. When it mattered most, the reigning champion, Antonio Luigi, crossed the finish line in P1. In a race defined by tension, he alone emerged victorious.
"...First Position, Antonio Luigi!"
"WOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!"
In the eleventh UK English commentary booth on site, the temperature had risen almost as sharply as the debate.
"So you're telling me Alejandro Vasquez 'wanted' Antonio to win?" one pundit snapped. "Why would he? That's absurd."
His colleague scoffed.
"That reaction right there is pure ignorance, Mike. Tell me you don't know the game without telling me you don't know the game," the other said. "Squadra Corse—Mercedes. Velox—Mercedes. It's plain as day!"
"Oh, please," Mike shot back. "This isn't some mechanical board game. This is Formula One. Antonio saw the opening, seized it, and took P1. Saying Vasquez 'partnered' with him is nonsense."
The third pundit, an analyst, cut in with a more measured tone.
"I wouldn't go quite that far. But there is something… uncomfortable about how it unfolded."
"Exactly," the second guy pressed. "There's nothing to prove because it was never meant to be provable! Celebrate the drive all you want, but the truth is this was a calibrated move. Two Mercedes-aligned teams. One outcome. Luigi wins in South Africa. Period!"

The last ten laps replayed on a loop in Luca's head as he moved through his post-race routine. He signed his weight slip and rejoined the team, peeling his firesuit down to his waist until he was just in his tight red base layers.
The noise of the paddock felt distant. He still couldn't quite believe how the race had unraveled, the confusion etched subtly across his face.
When his engineers spoke to him, he could only offer hollow, incoherent replies; his mind was anchored in the immediate past, unable to catch up to the present. The team exchanged looks, wondering how he would possibly navigate the upcoming interviews.
Before the media frenzy began, Mr. Ruben and the lead engineers pulled him aside. They had news concerning the power unit glitch from earlier in the race.
As it turned out, the fault was the result of poor assembly. They offered their apologies to the driver whose entire weekend could have been compromised by a single loose connection.
Luckily, the glitch hadn't cost him the race—this time.
Reporter 1: "Antonio Luigi is being hailed for a 'composed' victory, but many analysts are calling the finish 'mortifying' to watch. Do you feel the best driver won today, or do you feel the circumstances were engineered against you?"
Luca: "Antonio is the champion for a reason. He stays calm. But did he win it, or was it given? I think everyone watching saw the same thing I did. It's a bitter taste. I don't think 'composed' is the word I would use for how that felt from inside my car."
Reporter 2: "There is a lot of talk in the paddock right now about the cooperation between Squadra Corse and Velox Hispania. From your seat in the cockpit, did it feel like Vasquez was actively defending for Luigi, or was that just hard racing?" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Luca: "I… I don't know about alliances... [long pause] If Alejandro was helping him… it worked, coz I couldn't get through."
Reporter 2: "About the confirmed technical failure mid-race that must've affected your race in some way. How much did that distraction affect your rhythm, and do you have full confidence in the assembly of the car moving forward?"
Luca: "Yeah, the lights on the wheel went red for a second. I thought it was over, but we have it resolved now. I'm just glad the engine didn't pop. Haha."
Reporter 1: This was Davide DiMarco's first race back after a long recovery. From what you saw on track, how would you assess his return?
Luca: [Places hands on hips] To assess someone, I must first see them. My mirrors were mostly full of the Mercedes and a very aggressive seagull at Turn 4. Was Davide the one in the gravel at the start?
Reporter 1: No, he finished P6. He actually had a very solid drive.
Luca: [Raises one brow] P6? That explains why I didn't see him. If he wants my assessment, tell him to come closer to my gearbox next time. No more questions, please.
As Luca stepped away from the interview area and headed back toward his garage to prepare for the podium, his eyes drifted upward to the towering leaderboard screen on the right of the pit lane, facing the 1st Stands.
He stopped for a brief moment, an apparel dangling at his side as he exhaled through his nose.
When his gaze settled on Victor's name and finishing spot, all Luca could do was shake his head slowly.
