My Goalkeeping System-Chapter 552: Bullying
That second goal seemed to have rattled the nerves of Unique FC players as they seemed to have somewhat disconnected from the game after that, allowing Norlin FC to toy with them all over the pitch.
It was quite ironic but a match against a second division side was the match that had seen Dave being the busiest since the start of the season.
Lopez was a really good player but to Dave, he was currently quite annoying.
The goalkeeper has had to make a lot of runs just to intercept the through passes from the midfielder.
If it were any other goalkeeper in the post, Dave would reckon that Norlin FC might be leading by at least a goal now.
"Lopez from a distance!"
Gasps swept through the stadium as the young midfielder fired straight at goal from twenty-five yards out.
He had just received a ball from his teammate from that far out, and nobody was expecting him to shoot when he suddenly did.
But then again, who allowed Unique FC to allow him that much space?
Lopez had been dangerous whenever the ball touched his feet and they were still allowing him that much space.
That said, most of the fans and spectators were not expecting him to shoot from there.
They were not the only ones who were not expecting him to shoot from there, Dave was also not expecting him to shoot from there, which was why he was a bit slow to react.
He was only able to react a while after the shot had been released.
However, there was still not enough time for him to make his move.
Fortunately, it didn’t look like that was going to be necessary as the ball ended up hitting the right side of the crossbar before flying over for a goal kick.
The Norlin FC fans couldn’t help but let out sighs of disappointment with some of them applauding the attempt.
Unique FC fans, on the other hand, had nothing but sighs of relief to give out.
Their hearts had been hanging for a while. Seeing the way Norlin FC were bullying their team on the pitch, they knew it would take just the tiniest loss of focus for everything to turn around.
They hoped their team could see this through to the end, and some of the fans were even starting to call for the manager to send the more experienced and talented players onto the pitch.
Mateo, Minino and Roland were still on the bench after all.
"Oh, boy. If Unique FC don’t find a way to control or restrict Lopez very soon, he might end up dealing massive damage to them." Jim couldn’t help but comment after seeing that missed chance from the midfielder.
"Yeah, it’s obvious their midfield has been completely overpowered. I don’t know what Norman is thinking but he’ll have to get some fresh legs in here if he wants to regain control over this match." Steve added.
<Yep, it’s time for some players to go. Look at Martinez, Lopez has dragged him around so much that he’s completely spent now>
Catherine, who had been talking less for the past few days, was now ranting incessantly as Dave dropped the ball in front of his goalpost.
She wasn’t the only one who was frustrated, Dave was also starting to get a bit frustrated.
Usually, he would have very little to do as his team had dominated in most of the matches this season.
It wasn’t that he didn’t like doing anything, a goalkeeper would always want to get involved in the game after all, but seeing his defence getting penetrated over and over again didn’t really leave him with a good feeling.
The goalkeeper slowly took two steps backwards as he glanced toward the bench, where he could see Minion slowly getting up from his seat.
He had the usual mischievous, faint smile on his face, but on a closer look, one could see the fury burning in his eyes.
"I don’t know what the coach is thinking," Dave muttered under his breath before quickly closing up on the ball.
He lifted it nicely with his right foot and sent it flying toward the right.
His target was Merino who once again had fallen in deep, allowing the more energetic Ferran to push forward alongside Gregory.
The opposing player close to him tried to contest for the ball, but Merino, as always, was as slippery as an eel.
Bringing the ball down with his chest, he feigned moving toward the left with it before quickly switching to the right, neatly getting past the player.
"Nice dribbling from Merino."
Unfortunately, Norlin FC players had marked the forward as arguably the most dangerous player on the pitch so he wasn’t really allowed much space to cause trouble.
You would think that title would belong to Gregory after all the problems he’s caused for them.
However, in their opinion, as long as Merino wasn’t allowed to create, Gregory wouldn’t be able to do much.
Their judgment had proven to be correct after they started actively restricting Merino.
Not willing to take on multiple opponents at once and risk losing the ball, Merino quickly scanned the pitch to find Frankie who was free down the left. The midfielder had just run past the halfway line.
Merino didn’t hesitate as he gave the ball a push with his left foot before he sent it flying over to Frankie.
Merino seemed to have hit the ball a bit too much, causing Frankie to quickly track back before managing to get a foot on it on the edge of the sideline. The ball almost went over.
The opposing player behind him, made use of his monetary delay, quickly sliding toward him in an attempt to dispossess him.
Fortunately, Frankie was quick in reaction, neatly chipping the ball over the sliding player before jumping over him. He would have been swept off his feet otherwise.
Getting past that player left the midfielder with a lot of space to cover in his advancement.
Just a few seconds into his run, he spotted Gregory who was running ahead with an opposition defender right on his heels.
Behind them were Frankie and the other opposing players, and to the right was Merino, who was tightly locked by an opposition player.
At the moment, Gregory was in an offside position so Frankie didn’t bother moving the ball.
It wasn’t until they got to the D box that Gregory suddenly slowed down, allowing the defender to run past him.
Frankie also slowed down, allowing the player behind to catch up, but before he could do anything, the midfielder had already sent the ball rolling to Gregory.
Seeing the ball getting to the striker, the defender who had just rushed into the box, quickly tracked back. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
He stretched his body, making it impossible for the young striker to do anything.
Unfortunately, Gregory wasn’t planning on doing anything.
With his peripheral vision, he had spotted Ferran moving a little to the left, getting rid of the player behind him for a moment.
Taking advantage of the moment, he pushed the ball to Ferran with the sole of his boot.
Ferran was still in motion, and making use of his momentum, he struck the ball the moment it appeared in front of him, aiming for the far post with a powerful shot.
"Ferran!"
