My Horny Stepmom Turns Me into Her Vampire Slave-Chapter 53: Emergency plan
Manhattan, 8:10 a.m.
Slash!
Cassian Eisenfaust cleanly severs a primordial vampire’s neck.
Fighting alongside him are Joe Callhan and Philip Serghel, in their ogre and tiefling forms. Joe takes them down one after another, smashing their heads to pulp with his fists. Philip pierces and incinerates them with his sharp tail and Infernal Flames.
The three form a triangle, protecting Frank Pyton and Clarissa Felmon.
"Looks like that damned vampire really made a mess..." Frank says. Despite his calm appearance, he’s so irritated he snaps the cigar between his teeth.
The situation in Manhattan is very different from the Bronx. There are no explosions, and the streets are swarming with Monster Slayers, relentlessly fighting the primordial vampires emerging from the sewers and the newly transformed humans.
But no matter how many they kill, their numbers keep growing.
Cassian, Joe, and Philip struggle to hold back the horde, but one particularly fast vampire breaks through their defenses.
It lunges at Frank, but he hesitates.
He could use the power of the Scale of Urvoras and destroy it easily — but he doesn’t.
He’s surrounded by hundreds of Monster Slayers and knows it’s too risky to use a stolen divine artifact with a bounty big enough to tempt anyone.
As a healer, Clarissa can’t protect him, and his three henchmen are surrounded, unable to help.
Just as he decides he has no choice but to use that power, a lightning-fast slash cuts the vampire cleanly in two, splitting it as easily as a knife through butter.
A Monster Slayer spots the danger and intervenes at once to save him.
It’s John Kendrow, captain of team 21 of the HESPARC U.S. division — the same team Brianne Leviantis belongs to.
Barely thirty, but with a thick black beard and scars across his always gruff face, he looks much older.
It’s no coincidence he left his position to rush to his aid.
John Kendrow is one of the corrupt HESPARC agents on Frank’s payroll.
"Perfect timing, Captain Kendrow," Frank says.
"I only did my duty as a Monster Slayer — protecting a citizen in danger."
"I’m grateful. I’m sure a dutiful Monster Slayer like you will go far. Now, what the hell is happening? Fill me in."
"A primordial vampire outbreak."
Frank looks around with feigned surprise — he’s literally surrounded by thousands of them.
"Oh, you don’t say. Tell me something I don’t already know."
"We have no idea when it started, or how. Months ago the first cases appeared and we acted quickly, but it wasn’t enough. Every week those damned things multiplied, and containing them became harder and harder, until the situation got completely out of hand — this is the result. We believe Manhattan is the epicenter of this plague, since there are more primordial vampires here than in any other district. That’s why we’ve concentrated almost all available Monster Slayers here."
Frank gives a thin grin.
So they have no idea a vampire hunting Princess Mia is behind all this?
Very interesting. I can use this to my advantage.
"I can see things got out of hand too. You keep telling me things I already know."
Frank gives John a friendly pat on the shoulder.
"Captain Kendrow... doesn’t sound great, does it? General Kendrow... or even Director Kendrow. That sounds much better. You know my influence at the top of American society is growing fast. Next year there are the United States presidential elections, and I’m feeling very confident. Come on, talk — I’ll make sure to take care of you when I’m in the White House."
John lets out a long, thoughtful sigh.
"To end this pandemic and stop it from spreading across North America, the entire city has been sealed. The borders are under strict surveillance, and no one can enter or leave until further notice except HESPARC agents. Explosives were detonated in non-critical areas to make it look like a terrorist attack, and all communications have been cut to stop information from spreading. Between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m., as many civilians as possible were moved into underground shelters, with priority given to those considered most important for rebuilding society. Latest estimates say about two million people were saved. From 7:31 on, we have orders to eliminate all remaining civilians — both because any human could turn into a primordial vampire, and because they could be eyewitnesses. The city will remain sealed until the plague is completely eradicated. Those are the orders from HESPARC central command."
"Directly from HESPARC central command? That must’ve been frustrating, being bypassed like that. I wonder how pissed the vice-director of the U.S. division, Alexia Kendrow, is."
"Yeah, my sister didn’t take it well. I’d stay and chat, but I’m busy. Take care, Frank Pyton."
With that, John dashes like a bolt of white lightning toward the nearest primordial vampire.
"Green, Black, Cassian. Change of plans. We’re moving."
"But boss, that guy said all the Monster Slayers are here — it’s the safest place in New York," Joe grumbles.
Frank shakes his head in exasperation.
"You’re the same brainless idiot as always, Green. That’s exactly why we need to move out of here. Levreeshka Dulcar’s target is Princess Mia, who lives in the Bronx — and I’m sure she knows it. So why focus her forces on Manhattan?"
"Well... maybe because she doesn’t know New York well?"
As Joe answers, he rips a primordial vampire’s head off with a powerful uppercut.
"No, you idiot! That was a rhetorical question! It’s obvious the chaos here is just a diversion. She’s making it look like Manhattan is the epicenter so the Monster Slayers focus all their forces here while she acts freely. The Platinum Death was right — we’re dealing with a strategic genius. But unfortunately for her, I’m much smarter than she is. Let’s get back to the car."
Cassian, Joe, and Philip clear the way, and they reach the black sedan.
The windows are shattered, and the interior is smeared with blood.
Someone forced their way inside to hide from the massacre, but they didn’t make it.
But despite being reduced to a wreck, it still works.
Philip gets behind the wheel.
"We’re heading to the Bronx, boss?"
Frank nods, a satisfied grin on his face.
