My husband Can Cultivate-Chapter 339: Are You Questioning My Decision?
Zhang Gong had just left when a car stopped at the entrance to Baishan Manor.
"Well, well, if it isn't the infamous Mr. Yang Qi."
The car window rolled down, and a head poked out. It was none other than Wang Teng, the Young Master of the Wang Family. He had once fancied Lin Qingxuan and had a few unpleasant run-ins with Yang Qi, though it was always Wang Teng who had started the trouble. Sitting beside him was Li Qiutong. The two of them were dressed to the nines, likely on their way to turn some heads.
Yang Qi glanced at Wang Teng but paid him no mind, walking straight toward the entrance of Baishan Manor. Just as he reached the gate, however, he was stopped by a security guard.
"Kid, I've been watching you for a while now," a portly guard said curtly. "You've just been standing there. What are you scheming?"
This was Baishan Manor, an estate belonging to the Lei Mansion and specifically used for hosting various large events. Normally, the only people qualified to enter were either specially invited or members of the upper class. At the very least, one was expected to arrive in a luxury car; even a rented one would do. This was the first time they had ever seen someone arrive on foot. Worse, he had been loitering outside for ages without trying to enter, looking completely suspicious.
The guard was convinced he had spotted a problem. Adding to his suspicion was Yang Qi's plain attire. The security guards at Baishan Manor wore Armani, but Yang Qi's clothes were completely unbranded.
"I'm not scheming anything. I'm here to attend the Elixir Medicine Conference," Yang Qi replied. He wasn't angered, as he'd met his fair share of people who looked down on others. There was no point in getting upset.
"You're attending the Elixir Medicine Conference?" The guard looked down his nose at Yang Qi, his arrogant expression almost making Yang Qi want to laugh. "Where's your invitation?"
Even if I were an ordinary person, there's no need for this. Why must people at the bottom make things difficult for their own kind?
"I don't have one," Yang Qi said, shaking his head.
He had advanced directly to the finals, but thanks to Song Ruize maliciously pulling strings behind the scenes, his invitation was never delivered. No wonder Chen Guo wanted someone to escort me inside, he thought. So this is the kind of trouble he expected.
"No invitation, no entry. We can't let you in. Besides, looking at you, you don't seem qualified to attend the Elixir Medicine Conference, do you? Don't you understand how prestigious this event is? In the entire Jingnan Prefecture, very few people are able to get in. Even dignitaries and nobles can't always buy an invitation, no matter how much money they offer. Someone like you wants to attend? That's hilarious. Get lost! Just get lost! And don't block the way!"
Yang Qi could accept the first part of the guard's rant; it was just strict rule enforcement. The last part, however, he couldn't stomach. 'Get lost?' Who does he think he's telling to get lost?
"What's going on here?" Wang Teng's car pulled up, and he asked the guard with a smile.
"Ah, Young Master Wang!" The guard's demeanor changed instantly. He bowed and scraped as he rushed over, looking for all the world like a fawning lapdog. "This fellow doesn't have an invitation but insists he wants to enter the Elixir Medicine Conference. It's ridiculous."
"Hmm, you've done a good job," Wang Teng said with a smile. "People like this without an invitation must be kept out. Who knows what trouble they'd cause inside? I'll be sure to put in a good word for you with Young Master Lei."
So this manor belongs to Lei Zhen. If I'd known that earlier, I could have just called him and avoided all this hassle.
"Thank you, Young Master Wang!" the guard said, overjoyed.
Wang Teng shot Yang Qi a contemptuous look. "A country bumpkin will always be a country bumpkin. Qiutong really did the right thing by leaving you. Have fun loitering out here while we go inside!"
"After you, Young Master Wang!" the guard said obsequiously.
"Aren't you going to check his invitation?" Yang Qi interjected.
"No need! We trust Young Master Wang," the guard said with a grin.
What a two-faced bastard. If he'd treated everyone with the same strictness, I might have respected him. But no, he turned into a fawning lapdog for Wang Teng after acting like a hyena toward me. Truly despicable.
Just as Wang Teng was about to have his driver proceed, Li Qiutong stopped him. She looked at Yang Qi and said, "Yang Qi, if you kneel and beg me, I'll let you come in with us. It's a simple matter for Young Master Wang."
"That's right!" Wang Teng added, an interested smirk on his face.
"Heh, kneel to you two lowlifes?" Yang Qi scoffed. "You really think too highly of yourselves. Now get lost!"
"Such an ungrateful wretch. Let's go!"
Wang Teng and Li Qiutong's car drove into the manor. The security guard walked back over to Yang Qi and looked down at him with disdain. "Are you stupid or just an idiot? Young Master Wang gave you a chance to get in just by kneeling, and you refused? Do you have any idea how much an invitation is being scalped for right now? Ten million! And you turned it down?"
"I haven't sunk so low that I need to kneel before that despicable pair," Yang Qi stated flatly.
"Fine, fine! You're so proud, so impressive!" the security captain shouted, his voice grating. "But you still don't have an invitation, so you can't get in! Now get lost! This is a private estate, and unauthorized personnel are not to approach. Otherwise, we'll release the dogs!"
Yang Qi couldn't be bothered to deal with them. Stepping aside, he took out his phone and called Lei Zhen directly, explaining the situation.
"That son of a bitch Song Ruize, he's asking for it!" Lei Zhen roared over the phone, absolutely furious upon hearing what had happened. It was outrageous that Yang Qi was being blocked outside. Completely outrageous! Leaving aside Yang Qi's terrifying martial prowess that could crush Wu Hongda, the simple fact that he had saved Lei Zhen's life meant he could never be treated poorly. "Brother Yang, don't worry, I'm on my way!"
Just as Yang Qi hung up, he saw the security guards surrounding him with several fierce dogs.
"We told you to get lost, not to stand here making phone calls," the captain sneered as his men let the dogs off their leashes.
"Don't push your luck," Yang Qi said, his brows furrowing. "You were just insulting me, and I let it slide. Now I can't even make a phone call?"
"Enough talk! Sic 'em!" the captain roared.
A young guard quickly stepped in to stop him. "Captain, he's standing far from the gate. This isn't right. We're going too far."
"Xiao Liu, are you questioning my decision?" the captain asked, his eyes turning cold. "Believe it or not, I can fire you right now! This security job at Baishan Manor is a cushy gig, ten thousand a month. That's higher than a lot of white-collar salaries. If you don't want it, plenty of others do." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"I just think there's no need to bully someone like this," Xiao Liu said with a frown. "We're all from humble beginnings; there's no need for this."
"Get out! Pack your things and get out right now!" the captain roared. "Anyone who defies me here gets thrown out!"
"Captain, calm down, Xiao Liu didn't mean it like that," the other guards quickly tried to placate him.
"Anyone who dares speak up for this little brat can get out with him!" the captain raged.
The others fell silent. They were ordinary people who had to look out for their own livelihoods first.
