My Kitsune System-Chapter 19
Chapter 19 - 19
"And what might that be?"
"You just have to grow strong"
Dan turned to look at him as he said this.
"I know what you're about to say but hear me out first"
"Yes, you are going to die if you use your divine abilities, but what if we train your body to be able to withstand those backlashes? What I am trying to say is what if I train you?"
"Train me? Would training me stop the use of my life essence?"
Ryan paused for a second to think.
"No, it won't. But listen to me now. If we can train your body physically, you don't need to depend on divine abilities. That way, we can slow down the consumption of your life essence."
"So, in theory, this is only a temporary solution?"
"Yes, kind of."
If I am able to train my body, then I won't have to depend on divine abilities to protect myself. I just have to be stronger and faster than anyone else who comes after me
"Huh," Dan sighed.
"Tell me, you said the problem is that because I am mortal and carrying abilities of the divine right?"
"Yes, I remember saying something like that."
Dan now just stared at Ryan.
"Oh my," Ryan chuckled. "Don't tell me."
"What if I am able to turn divine too?"
Ryan started laughing as he heard Dan say those words. But came to an abrupt stop when he noticed Dan wasn't laughing nor finding the situation funny.
"And why do you think that would work?" Ryan's face was now stern
"Because the root of the problem is that I am not divine or part divine right? So, what if I am able to step into godhood?"
"Theoretically, that should work. you stepping into Godhood should be able to make your body divine and able to withstand using your divine abilities, but..."
"But?"
"The path to godhood is a long one, especially for a kitsune. In human years, it should take about 1000 years." Ryan now turned to look at Dan.
"And from the looks of things, I am not sure if you would see the next 5 even," Ryan said as he sized up Dan.
"I know... but it's worth a shot" Dan said as he now stared into space.
Is it even possible to become a god? I am already dying would I be able to make it? Huh, it's worth a shot, I think. I should check my stats and see how far I have gone.
Name: Dan Othniel
Title: The Goddess Chosen
Level 3: 30/50
Tail Level: 1/9
I am just in the third level. How many levels are there to be unlocked to reach the peak? And I have to unlock all 9 tails.
Dan looked at the stats, and every time he looked at his level, he felt his heart ache.
Let's check my attributes and see what it look like.
[Attributes]
- Strength: 29
- Speed: 28
- Agility: 32
- Intelligence: 19
- Spirit: 23
At least my attributes have seen significant progress. This should be from all the quests for exercise every morning. With a little more time, I should be able to boost them.
Dan sighed and then closed the screen.
"So, is there anything else I need to know?" he asked Ryan.
"Hmm, nothing much, just that you need to lay low...because there will be a lot of people coming after you to gain what you have or kill you for what you have."
"Oh, that isn't news, I guess. Thought you had something else," said Dan as he laid back on the park bench.
Ryan then bent and pulled off the bandage on his leg. He then stretched a bit.
"Okay, it seems I'll be off now."
With those words, he got up and waved to Dan as he started to walk away.
"And one last thing," he said as he turned back to meet Dan.
"Here's my address." he gave a mini card to Dan before he finally left.
Dan stared at the card and looked at the address.
It wouldn't be bad to go pay him a visit and start my training. Dan thought as he was now the only one on the bench.
For the next few days, Dan had been going to Ryan's home to train his mind and body after school.
"First thing you have to understand is that most demigods rely on their powers and bloodline and do you know what is wrong with that?" said Ryan as he watched Dan shadow-box.
"No, not really...so what is wrong with that?"
"For one, when they think you can't use divine abilities, they will let down their guard. And see you as a mortal.... And that will be their mistake" Ryan now stood in front of Dan to show him a move.
"You will strike them fast and hard before they know it." With a swift motion, Ryan punched the air, faster than Dan could see.
Seeing such fluid motion, Dan's eyes grew wide open.
Even in terms of combat, he will still school me.
"And what if they don't underestimate me and then decide to use full force?"
"Well, that's very simple.... You just wait it out," Ryan said as he went to take a sit inside the spacious training room.
The room was quite big and filled with a lot of equipment. From treadmills to dumbbells.
Dan wasn't very impressed with his joke. He had stopped shadowboxing a while ago. He went in search of a towel and a bottle of water to quench the thirst burning in his throat.
Picking up the towel, he cleaned the sweat on his face.
Dan then decided to take a break and sat down. He then brought out a photo and looked at it.
Ryan then came and sat beside him.
Ryan took an apple and bit it. He then chewed close to Dan's ears.
Dan turned to stare at him, Dan's expression was one filled with irritation.
"Is that the person you always go to visit at the cemetery?"
"Yeah, she is," Dan said as he decided to touch the picture as if trying to caress her face one last time
"May I ask who is she?"
Dan took a pause. And for a moment, he closed his eyes to conjure the face once more.
"Her name was Elise, she was a friend of mine," Dan said calmly
Ryan then pushed back a bit, startled.
"She was just a friend?" Ryan asked as his gaze pierced into Dan.
A smile appeared on Dan's face as he heard those words, as he knew what they meant.
"She was more like an elder sister, I guess. We met when I was about to get into college."
As he said those words, a kind of sly smile appeared on Ryan's face.
"Come on, it's not what you think."
"But I didn't even say anything?" Ryan laughed.
"You don't have to... Dude, the smiles say it all."
"Me? What smile" Ryan laughed as he laid down and was later joined by Dan.
They both just stared at the ceiling, saying nothing more. Silence began to bloom as they sank deeper and deeper into their thoughts.
"Hey," Ryan broke the silence.
"Yeah?" came the reply.
"Have you liked anyone, though?"
Dan turned to look at him.
"Do you mean have I ever liked anyone before, or do I like someone?"

"I don't really think the first one is a question...because you should have at least once, right?" Ryan turned to look at Dan for answers.
Dan then gave Ryan a nod.
"Okay.... That's good... Would have been worried there for a minute if you hadn't." Ryan gave a forced laugh.
"But what I want to know is do you like someone now, though?"
Dan then turned to face the ceiling once more.
"As of now, I don't think so."
"Why, though?"
"Let's just say I haven't seen anyone"
"Is it that..." Ryan wasn't done before he was cut off by Dan.
"What about you, though? Do you?"
"Huh... Not that I don't want to, but I'm too busy."
"Have you..." Ryan started again.
And before he could finish his sentence, Dan stood up to continue his training leaving Ryan on the floor.
