My Kitsune System-Chapter 22: Awkward situation

He had hoped he would see maybe a bizarre creature. Something scary and out of the stories being told at camp fires. He had hoped to meet something that would make him quake in his boots.

But what he saw was none of that. It was not something scary. It was not something that made him quake in his boots. It was not something that even required him to use his divine abilities as a last resort.

It was something else, it was something worse than he could ever imagine. It was the girl from earlier who he had an awkward moment with.

As she opened the door and looked at him. He could see her draw back a little. The door almost closed back.

"Hi?" Dan said almost immediately to stop from closing the door.

"Helloo?" came the reply as the girl tried to peek her head a bit outside the room.

As Dan watched he noticed how wary she was of him.

"I'm sorry for barging in on you unannounced but I wanted to apologize for earlier"

"ok, but how were you able to find my apartment though"

"About that, I had met a few people who knew where you lived and they gave me directions.

"To where I live?"

"Yes"

Dan tried to keep the conversation civil as he tried to find the source of the aura. As this was something he had never seen before. And as if to answer his question about the aura. The system immediately sent him a notification. It was an update on the quest.

Ding!!!

Sub quest: Get rid of the demon within the house.

Reward: 15 divine embers.

A demon? I have never seen one before. She looks quite normal to me so is she a captive of a demon? That would not be unheard of.

Dan was still lost in thought when a sound broke his train of thought. It was kind of a pained groan that came from within the room.

The girl then froze when she heard that. She looked at Dan as if waiting for him to say something but he never spoke.

Is she hiding something back there? is she in league with a demon?

Dan couldn't voice out his thoughts at least not yet. Putting up a smile on his face he said.

"I was wondering if I could get your number and chat with you sometime"

The girl said nothing but just stared at him.

"I'm sorry but I really don't know you, so I don't think that will be appropriate"

"Okay, since that's the problem. Hi, I'm Dan nice to meet you"

Her eyes widened.

"I..I..."

"Okay???" Dan smiled.

This conversation just keeps getting worse by the second.

A cough was heard within the room. The girl had wanted to go. Dan then pulled out his phone from his back pocket. He opened up the phone app and stretched it out to her.

"I don't bite," he said with a smile.

She hesitated at first but then she was in a hurry to go back in. She typed in her digits and was about to close the door when Dan called out to her.

"So what should I save it as?"

"I don't know anything," she said as closed the door and locked it.

Immediately she left the smile on Dan's face vanished.

He opened up his messages to the dm with the cat profile picture. Within the dm, his last message still hasn't been replied.

Dan> Hey, Ryan I need your help.

Was all the content of the message he had left for Ryan.

The following day he had met up with Ryan after classes at a market. He had gone there to buy some things he needed for what was to come later that day.

Dan held the plastic bags while Ryan kept looking at them every once in a while.

"Is something wrong with the bag?" Dan asked as he glanced at the bag himself

"No, nothing is wrong with the bag actually"

"Okay... So why do you look at it every now and then?"

"I get you are planning to break into a house yeah? I get that. you would need a mask to cover your face so you will not be seen. But a fox mask? come on that's too cliche even for you"

Dan kept quiet and didn't retort back, instead they headed to their destination in silence.

"Now you know the drill. You are just to stand and be a watch man. Alert me when you notice a female high schooler about this height approaches this building" Dan said as he pointed to the building behind them.

"Okay, so what should be?"

"I don't know just think of something?"

"Okay, I'll cause a commotion" Ryan said as Dan walked towards a secluded alley.

"Do whatever pleases you" Dan replied to him.

In the alley, Dan decided to change into different clothes. He had bagged up some extra clothes just for this little quest.

He put on the black hoody and dark trousers he had gotten. Picking up the mask. It was a fox like mask, it was white in color. It had shades of red around the eyes and below it.

Dan then placed the mask on his face, making sure that it held firmly to his face. He then used the hoody to cover it up.

Dan then looked up to see how high he had to climb. The good thing was he didn't have to use the door. Instead he would use the rails and slabs by the alley so as to avoid to many gazes on him as he enters the house.

Dan took a step back. His back against the building he was meant to get into.

"Here goes nothing" Dan said as he propelled himself forward running toward the other building. As he almost reached the building, he jumped forward toward the building.

His feet and hands were forward. Immediately they made contact, he pushed back to the building he was meant to climb.

His hands landed and held one of the slabs. With that Dan continued climbing and going higher, up the building.

He had climbed for a while before he finally reached the floor of the apartment he was meant to enter. Dan navigated around the building a bit before he located an open window in the living room.

He looked around to make sure no one was around.

Well, here goes nothing.

Dan then climbed through the window. He did that as silently as he could.

The room looked as quiet as ever.

No strange aura or eerie feeling.

And then..

BOOM!!!

Dan grabbed his chest.

"Ugh" he groaned as he fell to one knee.
