Chapter 298: THE TRIGGER

"I PUT my Mana in the ingredients that I used to cook that chicken mushroom porridge," Wonhee explained excitedly. "The mushrooms I used were mushrooms found in dungeons, while the "chicken" was actually an overgrown chicken monster. But Bitna caught it and removed the toxins in the monster meat, so it’s now safe for human consumption."

"Yeah, I can taste the monster meat," Hwang Frost said as if he was amused. "I’ve tasted a lot of monster delicacies all over the world. But even monster dishes that Hamin Hyung cooked didn’t give me this much Mana boost."

"Oh, right. I heard you were quite close to Hunter Hamin-ssi."

"Is Cyborg Hyung still alive?"

"Yes."

Hwang Frost probably didn’t want it to show, but it was obvious that he was relieved to hear that Hamin was still alive.

They’re probably closer than I think.

"It’s a shame that you can’t meet Hunter Hamin-ssi at the moment," Wonhee said as carefully as she could. The fact that Hwang Frost was happy to hear that Hamin was alive probably meant he wanted to meet the Culinary Hunter. She didn’t want Hwang Frost to be too disappointed, so she informed him in advance of Hamin’s whereabouts. "He’s currently spearheading a feeding program with my good friend, Bitna."

"Feeding program?"

"Bitna is a Guide like me," Wonhee said. Since she wanted Hwang Frost to be their ally, she shared their plans with him. "She discovered a way to keep the Cracks away from our world."

"Is that possible?"

"While you were asleep, we discovered that the Cracks are attracted to our world because our world lacks Mana. Only the Awakened People have Mana. And, apparently, there are more dungeon monsters than the people with Mana in our world combined. That’s why those dungeon monsters aren’t afraid of our world."

"Because they think they can outnumber the Awakened People in this world."

As expected, the #1 Hunter in the world was sharp.

"But I didn’t know dungeon monsters have that level of intelligence."

"It’s their ’Mother’ and not them who did the thinking for them," Wonhee revealed, but Hwang Frost remained stoic. "We’re facing a goddess here, Hwang Frost-ssi."

"Okay."

"Are you not worried?"

"Whether they’re a god or an alien, it doesn’t make a difference," Hwang Frost said, shrugging casually as if it wasn’t a big deal. "Tell me more about these dungeon monsters. What do they need from our world?"

"That’s the heartbreaking part, Hwang Frost-ssi— this goddess treats those dungeon monsters as her children. And, to feed her children, she chose our world to be their feeding ground," Wonhee said bitterly. "That goddess thought her children could hunt freely in this world because we have more Civilians than Awakened People. Fortunately, the System— created by deities who sealed the goddess— is helping us fight and protect our world."

Hwang Frost fell silent.

Wonhee kept her mouth shut this time because she could tell that Hwang Frost was in deep thought.

But now she couldn’t keep her eyes off him.

Since Hwang Frost-ssi was trapped in a huge block of ice for years, he didn’t age at all.

Hwang Frost was attractive, but...

It feels criminal to find him attractive when he looks like a man in his mid-twenties. We’re the same age, but mentally, he’s stuck with his physical age.

"So, we need to increase the Mana users in this world to drive away the Cracks."

Wonhee was surprised by how easily Hwang Frost deduced the current situation, so she nodded quite enthusiastically. "Bitna believes that if Guides sprinkle their Mana onto the food that they cook, it will boost the Mana of Awakened People. But since there are more Civilians than Awakened People in our world, she’s trying to see if the food she cooks will somehow trigger the sleeping Mana in the Civilians’ hearts."

When the System first explained what Awakened People were during the First Apocalypse, the System explained that all humans in this world had Mana.

Unfortunately, the majority didn’t have the trigger to activate the Mana in their hearts.

"The System said before that only people who can trigger the Mana in their hearts could awaken as either a Hunter or a Guide," Wonhee explained. "So, Bitna and I are hoping that the food Guides like us cook could serve as a trigger. If more and more people activate their Mana, then the Cracks might stay away from our world."

Hwang Frost tilted his head to one side. "That sounds like a good plan. But are there enough Guides in the world to do that?"

"I’m planning to make a worldwide announcement soon," Wonhee said, pausing for a moment. "To be honest, communications among different countries had been difficult recently. After all, Lee Seodam and his stupid group are trying to isolate South Korea. They want to make our allies that our country is already doomed. And since World Rankers keep attacking us, our allies seem to have given up on helping us."

"Then we just need to give them a reason to believe that our country is still alive and kicking."

"And how do we do that."

"Use me," Hwang Frost said, pointing a finger at his face. "Am I not the strongest Hunter in the world?"

Oh, right.

"Yes, I can use you as a distraction, Hwang Frost-ssi," Wonhee said, her eyes sparkling. "We need to hide the fact that we’re using food to trigger the Mana in Civilians’ hearts anyway, so we should make the enemies pay attention to you."

And Hwang Frost didn’t disappoint.

"WHAT DID I tell you, Wonhee-ssi? Hwang Yejun is the strongest Hunter in the world."

Wonhee could only nod in agreement with what Song Moonho said.

Yes, fortunately, Song Moonho was still alive.

Soobin Oppa and Semi Unnie are still sick, but they’re getting better since Semi Unnie’s pupils have finally finished creating the medicine for the disease that the enemies spread.

"It only took Hwang Yejun a week to kill the Top 10 World Rankers."

Yes, that was what had happened for the past week.

Hwang Frost appeared and challenged the Top 10 World Rankers.

The arrogant Top 10 World Rankers then went to Korea just to accept Hwang Frost’s challenge.

At first, the Top 10 declared they wanted a one-on-one fight instead of attacking Hwang Frost together because it was "embarrassing" to fight a "has-been" all at once. The first day the Top 10 World Rankers arrived, they sent the 10th in the rank.

Hwang Frost killed the 10th among the Top 10 in just an hour.

The 9th in two hours.

The 8th in two and a half hours.

And then the World Rankers finally realized that they made the wrong choice.

Hence, they started to form a group in order to bring down Hwang Frost.

But now, all the Top 10 World Rankers were dead— their corpses had been turned into ice statues that Hwang Frost showed to the world via a live broadcast.

The entire Nami Island, where the fight happened, was now covered in snow.

It was an empty island now anyway, so it was fine.

"I hope Lee Seodam is watching."

That was Wonhee’s earnest wish.

While she was celebrating internally, her Status Window suddenly popped up.

[Hunter Chu Wonhee, your time is almost up.]

Oh.
