Chapter 685: Eating the Kraken Meat

Time passed, and before they realized it, five days had gone by since Leon and Elina arrived at the black sand beach.

They continued their journey carefully through the forest. At first, Leon had thought it wasn’t very large—but he was wrong.

The forest stretched endlessly, and the trees grew taller the deeper they went.

Fortunately, they didn’t have to travel too far. Leon eventually found a trail that led directly to the top of the cliff.

After a day or two, they finally reached the edge of the high cliff.

Of course, the journey hadn’t been without trouble. Several monsters blocked their path—including two trolls, each far larger than the one that had once chased Elina.

Thankfully, none of them were too dangerous. Elina even managed to kill one of the trolls using her magic.

Now, Leon sat on a rock, while Elina stood near the edge of the cliff, gazing down.

The fog was gradually lifting, and she could finally see the black beach and the sea where they had first arrived.

"Wow! I didn’t expect the beach to look this tiny from up here! It’s amazing!" Elina exclaimed, her eyes sparkling.

Earlier, Leon had said the cliff was eight hundred meters tall. But from this height, it looked even more daunting than he’d imagined.

While preparing dinner, Leon chuckled and warned, "Careful, Elina. If you fall, I won’t be able to save you. This cliff is high—even I wouldn’t survive the fall."

Elina froze the moment she heard that. In a panic, she quickly ran back to Leon’s side.

"Young master, you’re giving me the shivers," she complained, clearly displeased.

She sat down beside Leon, arms crossed and lips pursed in annoyance.

"I’m just warning you, you know?" Leon replied helplessly. "It’s been drizzling for the past three days—the ground’s slippery. Standing too close to the edge could be dangerous."

Elina fell silent. She knew he was right. If she slipped and fell, her legendary journey with Leon would end right there.

Even if she survived, Leon would probably send her back to the land of elves once their mission was over. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Eventually, she let go of her irritation and lowered her head, guilt creeping in.

"Sorry, young master," she murmured softly.

Leon simply smiled and patted her head gently.

"It’s nothing. Now, let’s eat."

He took two skewers of octopus meat, marinated with a blend of spices and grilled to perfection over fifteen minutes.

The savory aroma filled the air, making Elina’s nose twitch like a hungry bloodhound.

"This is... octopus monster meat, isn’t it?" She asked hesitantly—though her eyes betrayed a hunger she couldn’t hide.

"Yes," Leon nodded. "Like I said, some monster meat is safe to eat—and Kraken meat happens to be one of the best. Try it—you might like it."

With that, he took a bite of his own skewer, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.

Watching Leon eat with such delight, Elina couldn’t help but grow curious. Without a second thought, she took a bite from the tip of the grilled tentacle—and instantly...

"Delicious!"

Her eyes sparkled like starlight. Without hesitation, she took another bite—then another. To her delight, the flavor only deepened with each mouthful.

It was savory, slightly spicy, with a subtle hint of sweetness. Despite being grilled, the meat remained fresh, and its texture was delightfully chewy without being tough. It was, without a doubt, delicious.

Seeing Elina eat with such enthusiasm, Leon smiled to himself and continued his meal.

Fifteen minutes later...

"Phew! I’m stuffed!" Elina patted her stomach, now slightly rounded from how much she’d eaten.

In no time at all, she had devoured three skewers of octopus meat.

Once disgusted by the idea, she was now clearly a fan of Kraken meat.

"Pfft!" Leon chuckled as he picked up the empty skewers scattered on the ground. "Next time, I’ll make something even better."

Hearing that, Elina lit up with excitement. "Yay! I’ll be waiting!"

Afterward, they began cleaning up—putting away the cooking gear, spices, and other supplies.

Since their journey was far from over, everything would still be useful later.

They also extinguished the campfire to avoid drawing attention from any monsters roaming nearby.

"Get some sleep, Elina," Leon said gently.

"Eh? But what about you?" She asked, concerned.

"It’s fine. You don’t have to worry about me," Leon replied with a soft shake of his head.

Elina looked like she wanted to protest but gave a small nod instead.

"Alright... But if you feel sleepy, promise me you’ll wake me up."

"I will."

Elina took out a folding mattress from her storage ring and lay down on a large rock, about a meter away from Leon.

Within moments, she was fast asleep, prompting Leon to chuckle quietly at the sight.

He stood up and walked over to a nearby tree, leaning against the trunk with one leg straight and the other slightly bent.

Lifting his gaze to the dark, silent night sky, he let out a quiet sigh.

"I hope..." he murmured, closing his eyes, "I still have enough time before the Evil God awakens."

The next morning...

Leon and Elina resumed their journey. Fortunately, since it hadn’t rained the night before, the fog was light, allowing them to travel without trouble.

However, a new obstacle soon emerged. Barely two hundred meters in, the trees grew increasingly sparse—until they vanished altogether.

What lay ahead was dry, cracked earth, brittle and lifeless. The sky above was shrouded in thick, gray clouds, blocking out the sunlight and casting the land in a dull gloom.

An eerie silence hung in the air, making Elina visibly uneasy.

"Young Master, are you sure this is the right way?" She asked hesitantly.

Leon unfolded the map and scanned the terrain markings. "Yes, this is the correct path. Since we chose the long way around instead of crossing the volcanic mountains at the far edge of Holy Orthodoxy, this route is the only alternative. But don’t worry—I promise we’ll be safe."

He smiled reassuringly and gently patted Elina’s head.

"Alright, I trust you," Elina said, nodding softly.

They pressed onward through the unfamiliar terrain. To stay on course and avoid danger, Leon activated his Eyes of Chaos.

Fortunately, the ability proved effective, helping them steer clear of threats and avoid the large monsters roaming in the distance.

Without realizing it, ten more days slipped by. During that time, their journey remained safe and uneventful.

To speed things up, Leon carried Elina and used his holy power to leap from one spot to another.

Then, at last, a massive silhouette began to rise on the horizon—the towering shadow of a majestic mountain.

"Young Master, look!" Elina called out joyfully, pointing ahead. "That must be Mount Durnhak!"
