Chapter 67: Responsibilities Of The Prince Of Hell

Damian reluctantly pulled away from Clara’s soft lips, leaving her breathing ragged and her face flushed. Her lipstick was smeared, and he had red lip marks scattered across his neck, lips, and face while he pinned her against the wall. He held both her hands above her head with one of his while the other roamed gently across her body, exploring every bump and curve with slow, deliberate touches.

Damian wanted more, and he knew Clara wanted that too, but they were out of time. The day was over and they had to pack up for today. Beyond this moment he had a mountain of responsibilities waiting for him, both inside and outside the firm.

As a junior partner, he would have to move into a larger office within the department. He needed to meet the junior associates and the new set of paralegals who would be working directly under him. On the positive side, once he finished those formalities he would gain far more freedom at work and would almost never need to report in unless he was handling a VIP client like Twenty or a high profile case.

Then there was the matter of informing Martin ahead of time about his planned vacation next Wednesday. During the week and several extra days he would be away, he needed to wrap up everything related to the Twenty Shots case.

Outside of work, he had to balance planning the trip with his training, secret meetings with Twenty, and outfitting his new home with proper appliances. His girls had already provided the furniture, but there was still a great deal missing before they could call the place a true home, both inside the house and around the building itself. All of this had to be managed while also trying to keep four different women sexually satisfied.

Yet the most important task among all of these responsibilities was finding a way to get in touch with Judge Vance. The woman had given him every signal he needed and had even delivered a generous ruling in the Twenty Shot case. If he failed to make the effort to meet her, she would consider him ungrateful and might grow resentful. More importantly, he needed her firmly in his pocket if he wanted his career as the Blacksheep Firm’s rising star lawyer to remain intact.

His life was currently packed with so many activities that even if there were two versions of him the workload would still feel overwhelming. If he did not possess an almost unreal constitution, he would have already fallen ill from sheer overwork.

"We have to stop here, baby girl...."

Damian’s voice carried a trace of regret as he released Clara’s wrists and watched her hands slowly fall to her sides.

"Can you at least come over tonight?" Clara asked, but quickly continued before Damian could answer.

"I know you just won the case and you should be spending it with your wife. I’m not asking you to sleep over. Just spend an hour or two, share a can of beer or something. You know... we should also celebrate a bit since we both worked on the case together..." Clara’s voice gradually faded as her confidence weakened with every word.

Listening to herself, it almost sounded like jealousy and neediness. Damian only smiled in response and leaned forward to kiss her gently on the forehead before returning to his desk.

"We are trying out Chinese food since we had black the last time." He offered her a warm smile as he sat down. "And maybe some rice wine to keep everything authentic." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Clara’s nervousness vanished instantly and her face lit up brightly as she nodded with eager enthusiasm.

"Okay!"

He watched as Clara hastily packed her things, a wild excitement glimmering in her eyes. It was the kind of look one might see on someone who had finally been given the chance to indulge a long hidden fantasy. As soon as she finished, she hurried out of the room, though not before leaning down to place a quick goodbye kiss on Damian’s forehead before rushing away.

Huff!

Exhaling loudly, Damian leaned back into his chair and closed his eyes for a moment. Only then did he remember that he had reached level 100 and still had nearly a hundred unused talent points. To think he had been too busy to even upgrade himself.

’I might as well do it now.’

With that thought, Damian dove into the darkness of his mind. In the next instant he found himself seated cross legged before the massive abyssal talent tree. Yet something about this desolate land felt different. A familiar presence lingered in the air, one that still sent chills down his spine.

He recognized the pale horse immediately, but the pale and handsome man clad in armor beside it was far more difficult to place. A long scorpion tail protruded from the man’s back, swaying slowly behind him.

It took Damian a moment to fully process what he was seeing before he jumped to his feet and braced himself for battle, his voice emerging in a low growl.

"Bathin!" he snarled like a wild beast.

His reaction earned nothing more than a brief, indifferent glance from the figure. Bathin’s eyes were pitch black, and dark cracks festered around his eyelids just like the markings that appeared when Damian used the power of the abyss.

"Why do you fear that which has become a part of us?" The familiar voice echoed through the crimson glow that suddenly bathed the desolate land. Behind the distant forest barrier, a massive eye slowly unfurled, dyeing the entire landscape in a deep red light.

Now the presence felt harmless, but Damian could never forget that terrifying voice which had once forced him to surrender a piece of himself to this dark power.

Without saying a word, he turned and began walking toward his lust talent tree. He had already decided that he would not upgrade his abyss talent tree again until he had nearly completed the lust path and stood ready to confront Asmodeus.

"You fear the abyss and wish to escape it, but such efforts are futile. As long as you desire the abyssal throne, you will turn to me for help, and eventually you will become a part of me. That is your destiny and the destiny of anyone who wields my power. Not even gods are exempt from this truth."

Damian did not respond. He did not stop, argue, or even glance back. Instead he covered both ears with his hands and continued walking forward. After witnessing the true nature of the abyss, he would rather place his trust in Asmodeus, who at least remained honest about his intentions.

Once he gained sufficient strength from the lust talent tree and ascended to godhood, he would return to the abyss inheritance and attempt to control its power just as Lin Qui had instructed.

’This is why you always listen to your elders!’
