Chapter 56: Purchasing A New Car

Jason was woken by the sound of his phone ringing quite early in the morning. He rubbed his eyes as he shifted on his large white bed to pick up the phone beside him, then answered in a calm tone:

"Hello?"

"Hey, baby boy. Sorry for calling this early. I just wanted to inform you that all the guards have arrived and have now been deployed around the people you selected," Ella said in her usual seductive tone.

Jason smiled.

"Thanks, Ella. I promise to repay you for this."

"Of course, and you should do it next week. Remember to come over. I won’t accept any excuses if you don’t."

He chuckled.

"Sure."

After the call ended, Jason began receiving numerous other calls from Catherine, Marinette, and Daisy, even Regina, his little niece, along with about fifteen other women, Layla included. Of course, he did not answer all of them, as most were already under high security, so it did not matter much. He knew why most of them were calling anyway and responded with brief explanations. Catherine asked when he was coming back, saying she was already starting to miss him, and so did Daisy and... Marinette, his stepmother.

Once everything settled, he decided to head downstairs so he could at least cook something for himself. Nathan had slept in the second of the four rooms in the house, and Jason assumed the yapper was still asleep.

However, to his surprise, the moment he arrived downstairs, he found Nathan neatly dressed in a brown shirt with the top button loose and white trousers that highlighted his muscular, athletic build. He carried his black backpack, which Jason already knew contained a gun.

He sighed.

"Good morning."

Nathan, standing near the glass wall, replied without looking away:

"Quite a beautiful morning, yeah. And it would be even more beautiful if we went outside and bought a damn car. Oh my God, it would be splendid. Don’t you think we should try that out?"

’Damn scum,’ Jason cursed inwardly with a scowl.

"Yeah. Whatever. I’m going to eat breakfast first."

"Oh, nice. What are you serving?"

"Um... I don’t know, maybe whatever my hand finds inside the cupboard," Jason replied nonchalantly with a shrug.

"Tsk. Well, do it quickly."

"Don’t rush me."

"And?"

’Brat.’

"I’m older than you. You should learn how to respect me, don’t you think?"

Upon hearing Jason’s words, Nathan turned away from the glass wall, visibly straining not to kill him, reminding himself that he was supposed to be a bodyguard.

He calmed himself down.

"Who the fuck gave you that idea?"

"Tsk. You look like you just graduated college two years ago. I don’t know, you kinda look like a twenty-two-year-old to me," Jason replied with scorn.

"...W-whaaaaaaaaa!? Go touch grass, scum! I’m twenty-eight, and I never even went to school!"

Surprised, Jason stared at him with his mouth agape. This guy was twenty-eight!? Two years older than him!? According to Seo-ra, the departmental manager MILF he had conquered about two months ago, this guy was his seonbae-nim!?? (Translated as a senior in Korean.)

The fact that he had never gone to college, or school in general, was not really surprising. Judging by his line of work and the level of expertise Ella had described, he would never have had the opportunity.

Nonetheless, Jason did not want to be junior to Nathan at all.

"Well, I’m two years older, child. I’m literally thirty! You got me, thirty!" he lied with a straight face.

Nathan paused with a look of disappointment.

"Come on, you little brat. I can’t believe you think I wouldn’t know your age, you fucking twenty-six-year-old. I did a background check on you!"

Jason scowled.

"Fool! That’s an invasion of privacy. You can’t run a background check on me without my—"

"Permission? Oh please! Hahaha. Pfft. I’ll do it again!"

"Fuck you!"

"Eat shit!"

It was quite the morning, layered with curses, but there was a growing interaction between the two. Honestly, throughout the two lives he had lived, this was the first time Jason had been able to freely have such a conversation with someone.

Jason cooked quickly, ate without comment, and washed his plate while Nathan checked his phone and complained about the time. They left the house soon after, locking up and stepping onto the morning street without further delay. The drive to the dealership took less than twenty minutes, and neither of them spoke much during the ride.

The car dealership sat on a wide corner near a main road, clean and glass-fronted, with enough space to display its inventory properly. Jason stepped out of the taxi first, followed closely by Nathan, who already looked distracted by what he could see through the windows.

Inside, sedans lined the entrance, practical models designed for families or office workers. Jason barely spared them a glance and walked farther in. Toward the back, several sports cars stood beneath bright lights, spaced far enough apart to give each one individual attention. Nathan moved ahead immediately, drawn to them without hesitation.

One of the first cars he stopped at was a red Chevrolet Corvette, low to the ground and clearly built for speed. He walked around it slowly, hands behind his back, studying every line.

"This one looks mean," Nathan said after a moment. "Don’t you think, kid?"

’Who are you calling a kid?’

Jason glanced at it briefly.

"It also looks like it would get annoying after a week."

Nathan smirked.

"Yeah. You’d feel like people were staring every time you stopped at a light."

They moved on without much debate.

A black Porsche 911 sat nearby, cleaner in design. Nathan slowed his pace and leaned closer to the window.

Before either of them spoke again, a man approached from the front desk. He wore a neat shirt and carried the desperate eyes of a salesman who had not sold a single car in months.

"Morning," the salesman said, trying not to sound overly eager. "Let me know if you want details on anything."

Jason met his gaze calmly.

"I need a car."

The man responded quickly.

"That narrows it down."

He gestured toward the Porsche.

"This one goes for about one hundred and twenty thousand. It’s comfortable, reliable, and not difficult to maintain."

Nathan tilted his head.

"It’s nice."

They continued walking.

Nathan stopped again when he spotted a dark blue Nissan GT-R farther along. He stared at it longer than the others.

"Oh, this one," he said quietly. "Yeah. This is more your type."

Jason stepped closer.

"Why this one?"

Nathan shrugged.

"It just feels right. I mean... it suits m— you. Yeah, it suits you well."

’Dumbass. You think I didn’t hear that.’

The salesman followed them quickly.

"That model is two hundred and ten thousand. It’s popular with people who want something serious without constantly babysitting it."

Jason studied the car in silence, then looked at the salesman.

"Would it be annoying to drive around town?"

"No!" the man replied in a startled tone, clearly afraid of losing his first potential customers of the day.

Jason considered this.

"And upkeep?"

"Nothing excessive. Parts are easy to get, and servicing is straightforward."

Nathan glanced at Jason.

"You won’t get bored of this one."

Jason thought for another moment, then spoke plainly.

"Alright. I’ll take this."

The salesman blinked, then smiled broadly, the grin stretching almost to his ears.

"Excellent choice. We can finish everything today."

"Do that," Jason said. "I want it ready as soon as possible."

Nathan let out a short laugh.

"Told you. This one suits you."

Jason grimaced.

The paperwork was completed quickly, the keys were handed over, and the deal was sealed. Jason looked at the car once more with a blank expression, then passed the keys to Nathan.

"Baby, welcome home," Nathan whispered, kissing the car.
