Chapter 60: Arrival In Venice. Seriously, Who Knew The Women Would Be So Beautiful?

After about an hour, the interview ended, and Jason walked out with a smile when they found absolutely nothing on him. He slipped his hands into his pockets and straightened his jacket, then gave Monroe a slight bow.

"I hope we meet again, but in a different setting," Jason said in a lightly teasing tone as he walked away from the beautiful detective.

Nathan was already waiting for him outside in the car.

Jason knew they must have suspected him as a potential culprit, despite the fact that he was both a family member of the victim and the first witness.

To be honest, the thought did not frighten him. If anything, it meant they were doing their job properly and investigating thoroughly. It was only natural for suspicion to fall on him sooner or later. Their only failure lay in their lack of evidence.

It had clearly been nothing more than a hunch that led them to call him in.

He grimaced.

What a waste of time. I genuinely thought they had finally found a lead.

Moments later, however, a grin spread across his face.

Even if it had been a waste of time, he had gained something else entirely. He had met a beautiful MILF who also happened to be a detective. Perhaps, if he played his cards well, he could extend his influence into the police department itself.

Although she was a particularly low ranking officer with little influence when judged on a national scale, it was still something.

He intended to reach into every political position, the military, and the entire police system, because one of his true goals was to build an empire as vast as the country’s economy, and he was only halfway there.

Of course, his plan to bring an offspring into his world and to conquer one hundred Milfs was still intact.

That thought reminded him of something else.

It was about time he began focusing on the new quest the system had given him.

Just as he was about to get into the car, with Nathan grinning at him, he received a call and paused to check the caller.

Ella? Had she found a lead through the private investigators? he thought quietly to himself as he answered the call.

"Hey, Ella," Jason greeted calmly as he got into the car.

"Baby boy, we found a new lead. However, the private investigators will not be able to continue from here, so you will have to take over from now on. By the way, this is getting dangerous, so stay safe. Well, Nathan will be there with you."

Jason was astonished.

The private investigators had already uncovered a lead before the police had managed to do so.

It was not as though he had not expected it, but it still came as a shock. At the very least, he was pleased, as it meant he was getting closer to catching the culprit. However, if the private investigators had reached their limit so quickly, then the danger ahead must be overwhelming. Even so, that was not going to stop him.

He clenched his fists.

"What is the lead?"

Ella clicked her tongue lightly.

"You are travelling, so tell me, have you ever been to Venice?"

His eyes widened.

"Venice?"

Wait.

Was that not the country Angela had travelled to before returning?

Yes, it was. If that was the case, then there must be something there connected to her death. Yet why did it feel entangled with him, almost as though it had been directed at him, like a message?

"No. It is time I visit. Send me more information."

"Alright. Once you are back, come to me immediately."

He smiled faintly.

"Sure."

After ending the call, Nathan glanced at him with a nonchalant expression and started the car. For now, they would have to head back home so he could prepare for the journey. This would be his first time leaving the country.

Jason made a call to Daniel and instructed him to take charge of all his businesses for the next six months, as it seemed he had a new journey to undertake personally. His thoughts drifted to Layla. Naturally, he did not want to bring her along, given the danger he might face, yet she remained his key to completing the system’s quest if he wanted the information reward.

He sighed.

’Fuck. I will have to deal with it the moment I get back. At least I have plenty of time.’

Venice was a city built entirely around water, and everything within it followed those rules without exception. Canals replaced streets, boats replaced cars, and every form of transport depended on fixed routes that had existed for generations.

Here and there, stone buildings stood close together, rising directly from the water. Their age showed through uneven walls and worn surfaces rather than collapse or neglect. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Bridges connected different parts of the city, and crossing even short distances required patience because people were always present. Shops occupied nearly every accessible space, most of them catering directly to visitors through souvenirs, clothing, food, and guided services.

Tourists filled the walkways from morning onwards.

They stopped often, checked maps, followed signs, and gathered in groups that blocked narrow paths.

Locals moved differently, avoiding eye contact.

Businesses opened early and remained active for most of the day, responding to steady demand. Water traffic continued at a constant pace, carrying supplies, workers, and passengers through the canals without interruption.

The city allowed little privacy.

By the next afternoon, Jason and Nathan arrived.

They stepped out among the crowd dressed like ordinary tourists. Both wore shorts, sleeveless tops, sunglasses, and wide hats.

The clothing suited the setting and allowed them to blend in by appearance alone.

Their expressions, however, did not match the relaxed atmosphere around them.

They carried a tarnished, weary look.

Jason walked ahead, while Nathan stayed close beside him.

People noticed them briefly and then moved on, registering them as unfamiliar without interest. Jason looked around at the canals, the buildings, and the constant movement of people, paying the most attention to the people themselves.

Nathan adjusted his sunglasses and kept pace without speaking, his attention fixed forward, filled with restrained anticipation.

They moved with the crowd, following its flow.

Jason’s focus remained steady, and his thoughts shifted away from travel and towards preparation immediately.

After a short moment, Jason turned his head slightly towards Nathan and spoke in a casual tone that contrasted with his alert expression.

"Did you know the women here are so beautiful?"

"Huh?"
