Chapter 21: 21. A Duel Of Fools

"MILF Detector!"

Holy shit...

Madam Sarah's sexual frustration level is... 92?!

That's freaking high!

"Good morning, students." She greeted in a soft, almost high-pitched voice.

"Good morning, ma'am." I found myself saying louder than everyone else, earning glances from the whole classroom.

But Sarah didn't even spare me a glance. How HEARTBREAKING!

"We have a new transfer student from the nearby kingdom of Zephandria. Please, come in." She announced.

The door opened, and my eyes widened in shock. Anna?

She stepped in, clutching her bag like her life depended on it, her gaze fixed on the floor.

"Introduce yourself to the class." The teacher said.

"I—I am Anna S..." She paused. "Just Anna."

Her voice trembled. She was clearly nervous.

The classroom erupted in laughter.

"She's lame."

"What's up with her voice? Is she missing her mommy's breast milk or something?"

"And that hair? Green and silver? I've never seen something so weirdly frustrating to look at."

Murmurs filled the room. Though Anna kept her head down, I could see she was hurt by their words.

Without a second thought, I called out. "Anna! Come sit over here."

Her head snapped up, searching for me. I waved from the back, and her face lit up. She practically bolted to my side, rubbing away the tears that had stained her beautiful face. And those ocean-blue eyes of hers? They looked even cuter glistening with tears.

...What a lame compliment. Better to keep it to myself.

Madam Sarah didnt seem to mind me sitting next to her. She just scoffed and continued with the lesson.

Then, after the boring lessons about magic and incantations l wouldn't really use in my entire life came to an end, it was finally break time.

I walked into the canteen with Anna, and of course, my idiot friends tailing behind us.

Four Eyes clenched his fists, gritting his teeth. "Nghhh... Asherman, you traitor!"

I frowned as I set my tray on the table. Anna sat a few inches away from me while the idiots took their seats across from us.

"We agreed to do this at the same time, man! How come you already have a girlfriend?!" Four Eyes fumed.

"Wait... you mean Anna?" I blinked. "Oh, she's just a friend. She saved my life in the dungeon the other day when I nearly died fighting a Behemoth of Tyrant."

Munch, the quiet cookie guy, choked on his food. Four Eyes and Normie froze, staring at me like I'd just grown a second head.

"A-Are you kidding? You've been to a dungeon? And you fought a Behemoth?" Normie gasped.

"Yup."

Four Eyes leaned in, whispering urgently. "Asherman! Do you realize that's a legendary monster? Even S-rank hunters struggle with it, and you're just a D-rank! Claiming something like that could get you in serious trouble!"

I shrugged. Not like their opinions mattered anyway.

"He defeated it."

The quiet voice came from beside me. Anna.

I turned to her. She glanced back at me, and l could tell from the look of her eyes that she wasn't sugarcoating her words. She meant them. She believed in me.

"Anna." I muttered.

Four Eyes slammed the table. "Would you two stop flirting?! But for real, Asherman, you shouldn't talk about this. Look around."

I did. Disgusted glances met mine.

Then, someone stepped up to our table. I tilted my head up to see a male student standing there, hands on his hips with eyes full of disdain.

"How dare you!" He snapped. "A mere first-year claiming to have fought a Behemoth?"

I stared at him flatly. "You got a problem, dude?"

The dining hall fell into shocked silence.

"See what I mean, Asherman?" Four Eyes whispered. "You're always getting yourself into trouble!"

I raised an eyebrow and turned back to the guy, who was still glaring down at me like some righteous noble.

"I suppose I should introduce myself first!" He puffed out his chest. "I am Hilary Martinsville, the firstborn son of the Duke of this kingdom! A second-year student and a B-rank hunter of noble blood! Therefore, l shall not tolerate such revolting lies from a mere commoner like you!"

Wow. A male version of that bitch Lorraine. Just what I needed.

I sighed, eyeing him with boredom. "So?"

His eye twitched.

Anna gripped my arm firmly, pressing her chest against me. I glanced at her, and she shook her head subtly. A warning.

Guess this guy was bad news.

But I've changed. I'm not the same naive Asher who got manhandled by Lorraine. I won't be bullied again.

I smiled at Anna, reassuring her.

"What's that kid thinking?"

"He's gonna get his ass kicked."

"Looks like he loves trouble."

"I'd love to see him beaten half to death."

Laughter rippled through the canteen.

And... what was this angry bird's name again? My brain just refuses to remember guys' names. It's like I automatically don't give a shit.

But this dude looked like a bomb about to explode.

"Alright, that's it, kid!" He snapped. "I can't stand your insolence and that blank face of yours! I'll wipe it off your face!"

He removed his gloves and threw them at me.

I picked them up. They looked expensive.

Then, Four Eyes collapsed dramatically onto the floor, clutching his chest.

"Asherman, you idiot! Why did you pick up the gloves?!"

I blinked at him, expressionless. "They were on my food."

"IDIOT!" He yelled. "That was a duel challenge! And by picking them up, you just accepted!"

Shit.

"Wait, really?"

"YES, YOU DUNCE!"

The angry bird smirked like he had already won.

Damn it. I just wanted to spend some peaceful time with Anna. But now, I had to deal with this pompous idiot?

...Actually.

A grin formed on my lips.

Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea.

I could finally test my strength in a real fight and learn where l stand as a hunter. I can't be a hunter thriving to make my mom proud if l don't engage in fights to test my strength. Right?

A few students had run off to get a teacher, and soon, Ma'am Sarah arrived—along with the academy principal, an old hag in a witch's hat straight out of a history book.

"I heard you students need to have a duel?" Ma'am Sarah asked.

Angry Bird grinned. "Yes, ma'am."

She turned to me. I smirked.

Maybe if I won, she'd stop treating me like some side character. That spot was reserved for people like Munch, who spent their entire time munching cookies.

"I accept the duel too!"

Gasps filled the room.

The whole academy was waiting for my defeat.

Heh.

I'll show these goofballs not to mess with a proud MILF hunter fighting to impress a smoking hot MILF teacher!
