Chapter 152: – Pathetic! –

Viviana dropped to the floor with a heavy thud, grunting and breathing rapidly. Her chest was pounding, the wound was bleeding and soaking up the hospital gown she had been changed into by Valentina.

"Niko... Nikolas."

Viviana pushed herself regardless, crawling and trying to get to her feet. She staggered, gripping the edge of the door to step out of the room. "Nikolas!" Her face was pale, eyes barely open.

"Nikolas! Nikolas!"

Footsteps resounded, and her face lit up, only to fall in the next moment. The person before her wasn’t her Nikolas. But it was someone she’d never met before. A short haired-woman.

Valentina’s eyes shifted to her bleeding shoulder and her face twisted. "Oh for heaven’s sake. You’re bleeding! Why did you get out of bed? Why did you move? You’ve opened the wound up." S

She quickly rushed up to her, grabbing her to lead her back to the room. But Viviana shook her head. "Please help me."

"I am helping you—"

"No, no, you don’t—you don’t understand."

"Ma’am, I need you to calm down." Valentina urged with a worried look on her face. "I need you to breath."

"You’re not listening to me!"

Viviana had begun sobbing in frustration.

"My husband. M-my husband. You need to help me. You need to help him. He was—"

Valentina snatched her by the shoe, locking gazes with her. "Look at me.You need to calm down! You’re going to exhaust yourself and you might fall into a critical condition again. Your father may have given blood to you, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of danger. PLEASE!"

Viviana stared at her.

Her chest hurt and she squeaked, crying as painfully as Valentina had never seen anyone do before. She cried like every part of her hurt, her hands gripping her as if asking for help. But how could Valentina help her?

She wasn’t oblivious to Nikolas’s situation right now. She could only stand there and watch Viviana drop to her knees on the floor, sobbing profusely. She was begging, "My husband. Please... you have to help me."

"H-he’s all I have. The only other person who means the world to me. Please, help me. I want to see him. I want to see him. I’m begging you."

Valentine couldn’t do anything. Seeing her like this, she rubbed her eyes, quickly wiping off the tears of sympathy that had welled up in her eyes. ’I’m sorry..." was all she could say.

"Don’t say sorry to me... Just help me. Please help me." Viviana gripped at her shirt, at her hand, begging, pleading. "I want to see my husband. I want to see him. Please! PLEASE! I’m begging you!"

Valentina breathed out deeply. He looked down at her. "Okay. Okay, I’ll help you. But you need to come with me."

She tried to help her up to her feet. "You will see Nikolas, but first I need to treat your wound and give you some injections to help with the pain, is that okay?"

Viviana believed her. And so she nodded.

They walked back into the room and she laid back on the bed. Valentina smiled at her as she went off, preparing something before coming back to her.

"W-what is that?" Viviana asked, staring at the syringe.

"It will help with the pain, don’t worry."

Viviana trusted her, and Valentina gave her the injection. However, two minutes in, Viviana started to feel dizzy. Her vision was going blurry and she couldn’t think anymore. The only thing she could voice out was, "What did you do to me?" and then she passed out.

Valentina immediately let out a deep breath of relief. "This is insane." She knew there was no way Viviana was going to calm down, not until she saw Nikolas. Giving her this sleeping sedative was the best thing she could have done now. Else she could risk worsening her condition.

"Damn it!" She moved over to carefully treat her shot wound again. When she was done, she gave Viviana a last look, before leaving and making her way to the living room.

She picked up her phone and dialed a number. And as the call went through, she began pacing back and forth.

[Valentina?]

"Lucian, she woke up and the situation is not good."

[What do you mean?]

"She woke up in a frantic state and I mean a very bad crazy state. She only wants to see your brother and she’s not going to snap out of this state until she does. I had to lie to her and inject her with a sedative to calm her down."

[A sedative?!]

"Yes!" Valentina grew annoyed. "She needed it. She was putting her life at risk. Just because her father donated blood to her doesn’t mean she’s out of danger. The last thing she needs right now is to be in this state. You’ve got to do something, because I know that the next time she wakes up again, it’s going to be this way all over again."

And sure enough, this was the case. For the next seven days, Viviana kept waking up in this frantic state. And every time she did, the only thing Valentina could do was give her these sedatives to put her back to sleep.

"Do something, Lucian! She’s going to overdose at this point, and I am not willing to be the cause of someone’s death!" she shouted at him.

Lucian was quiet on the other side of the phone.

[Is she out of a critical state?]

"She’s out of danger completely. These days of sleep have helped her. But if she continues this way, she will overdose, so please do something! Because this is the last time I am giving her this sedative. I won’t do it again!"

[Okay, okay. I’m sorry that I’m making things hard for you with this situation. Give me just forty eight hours—]

"NO! Twenty hours! Twenty four is all you have. I am a doctor and I will not be the cause of a patient’s death."

[Okay, okay! Twenty four hours it is. I’ll be there soon. Please take care of her in the meanwhile]

"Got it."

The call ended.

Valentina stared at Viviana who had now fallen into sleep. Though looking sickly, it didn’t hide her beauty at all.

Such a shame a woman like her was being trampled on by the twisted curse called love.

Pathetic!

"Love?" she clicked her tongue, scoffing as she left the room. "It’s nothing but a curse. It sparkles, but beneath, it’s lethal. All it does is kill those who accept it. A shackle that manipulates and wraps itself around you, blinding and holding you down. Love benefits you nothing. It’s nothing but a drug that kills you slowly and I will never give myself to it."
