Chapter 1998: Chapter 1998: Quit Pretending

After all, true love is too hard to attain. What she can’t attain, she really hopes Yiyi can.

She wasn’t foolish, even though her heart was always dwelling on the love from years ago with her husband. Even though he later married a second wife, she couldn’t truly resent him. It was the path she chose, and she had to bear all the consequences. No matter how he treated her, she didn’t care anymore.

But she was also aware that he wouldn’t take care of Yiyi, even though he adopted her as a foster daughter. He wouldn’t lift a finger to protect the child. If anything happened to her in the future, what would happen to Yiyi? No one would take care of her.

Even though she didn’t care about politics and wasn’t very sensitive, she could still sense the looming turmoil, and there would be huge changes in the Aus Empire.

Hence, Madam Aisha had been considering things a lot these past six months, thinking that if she could find a man who loved Yiyi and had the capability to protect the child during the coming political storm, entrusting Yiyi to him, only then could she feel at ease.

"Mom, I..."

"I see he’s not doing very well, harder to approach than before—a cold and arrogant demeanor to everyone. Now those officials don’t dare offend him at all. They privately say he’s a cold air generator, even harder to get along with than his father. Evidently, he hasn’t moved past the shadow of the breakup with you. He must still have scars that can’t be erased in his heart."

"Mom, what are you talking about?" Jun Yiyi’s face changed slightly, widening her eyes in frustration. Madam Aisha really knew which pot not to lift. Why suddenly talk about that man?

These past six months, she had been trying her best not to think about anything related to him. This person now had nothing to do with her, alright.

Madam Aisha didn’t notice her annoyance at all and continued speaking about Ling Kong’s recent situation:

"Moreover, he hasn’t been involved with other noblewomen these past six months. It’s rumored outside that he has a close relationship with Miss Duke Lie, but I think he interacts with her more than with other noblewomen merely out of politeness. I haven’t seen any intimate actions between them."

"Mom, please stop talking about him, alright? How he is now has nothing to do with me."

Jun Yiyi interrupted her irritably, really not wanting to hear more. Whoever he wanted to date was his own choice; who cared about his romantic status anyway.

Regardless of his icy demeanor, a bunch of fearless women still threw themselves at him one after another. His popularity was never bad, hmph! A flirtatious heartthrob still pretending to be aloof—the domineering president style isn’t trendy anymore; it’s outdated!

"Alright, alright. I just wanted to ask if you’ve heard any strange rumors from other wives at the banquets. Mom, this is really important; please think carefully."

Hearing her surprisingly serious tone, Madam Aisha seriously recalled her recent banquet attendances. Yet, she had never been fond of attending banquets or chatting with those socialite wives, and those powerful women looked down upon her as a fallen woman.

So, the news she could hear was basically what everyone else knew; there was no insider gossip.

"I’m sorry, Yiyi, my relationships with them aren’t deep. They wouldn’t reveal any secrets to me. I’m truly sorry," Madam Aisha apologized, full of disappointment.

Jun Yiyi felt quite disheartened but understood, given Madam Aisha’s personality, that it would indeed be forcing the impossible.

"Just forget it then!"

"Yiyi, has something happened? Why are you suddenly asking about these things?"
