My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 2004: I Believe You
"I have some teaching-related matters to attend to, so I came to this school to handle them."
Then he glanced around cautiously, pulling Yiyi away quickly and entering a quiet grove. His eyes sank, and his voice was rapid: "Why are you still here?"
"I was just about to go back, but the school suddenly announced a surprise inspection, and we were not allowed to leave." Yiyi was baffled, but noticing his unusual expression, she felt a sense of foreboding.
Mubai’s eyebrows furrowed even more tightly: "I’m not asking about that; why are you still in the capital?"
Yiyi looked at him in shock: "If I’m not in the capital, where should I be?"
A flash of shock and anger crossed Mubai’s handsome face. He clenched his fist and said angrily, "I thought Governor Yun would have sent you away long ago. I didn’t expect him to be so unreliable, leaving you and your mother in such a dangerous place! I was careless, I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t contacted you, not knowing you’re still here. I thought you’d left a long time ago since Governor Yun has been in office for two or three months now!"
His deep voice sounded guilty and remorseful. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Seeing him so remorseful, Yiyi felt warmth in her heart. Although their friendship wasn’t considered deep, he cared about her so much; it wasn’t even his responsibility, yet he blamed himself.
"It’s not your fault; I chose to stay for my studies!"
"Silly girl, it seems you know nothing of the inside story. If Governor Yun truly had your best interest at heart, he would never agree to let you stay!"
Seeing his expression, Yiyi thought that maybe her previous suspicions were correct, and she hurriedly asked: "What’s really going on? Is something big about to happen?"
"Well, you should have noticed that the country’s situation has been very tense this past year. Recently, rumors have been rife, and a storm is about to come!" Mubai’s deep voice carried a sharp, cold intensity.
Yiyi shivered for some unknown reason.
"Is the queen really going to fall?" she whispered, not really expecting an answer. After all, such state secrets are known by very few, only the top figures. Who could predict the outcome of such upheavals?
He was just a university teacher and couldn’t really know anything.
Mubai gave her a complex look.
"In any case, you need to leave quickly! I’ll send someone to take you home now. Pack your things immediately. I’ll send someone to take you away tonight, to a city in the south!"
Yiyi was shocked. Did she need to leave in such a rush?
"No need, I’ve already booked a flight for tomorrow."
"Tomorrow? Tomorrow will be too late; you must leave tonight!" Mubai’s tone was unusually serious. Then he grabbed her and hurriedly marched towards the school gate.
"Why?"
Mubai stopped, turned back, and stared deeply into her eyes: "Yiyi, we are friends, right? Can you trust me as a friend?"
Yiyi was struck by his sincere and insistent expression and nodded.
"I trust you." It came from a gut feeling that he wouldn’t harm her.
Mubai showed a bright smile like the morning sun, patting her shoulder: "Since you trust me, leave as I plan. Though I can’t tell you why, please believe me; I won’t harm you!"
Hearing his solemn tone, Yiyi finally realized the seriousness of the situation.
