My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 2017: The Resolve to Gamble with One’s Life
"I never thought you’d mix with the Queen’s men, openly collaborating. But clearly, once they used you, they discarded you here," Helian Ling Kong glanced at her coldly, his low voice tinged with sarcasm and mockery.
"What nonsense are you talking? I have nothing to do with them, I’m just a student."
"A student? Are there students who openly shoot and kill people like you? You’ve taken down quite a few guards." His piercing gaze roamed back and forth across her face.
Yiyi glared at him, sneering, "They were going to kill me, and I can’t fight back? Ridiculous, let alone soldiers, I’d kill anyone who threatens my life."
"Including me?"
Yiyi turned her head away forcefully, with a firm "Yes!"
The man opposite her fell silent, then raised his voice with a half-smile, "As expected of Jun Yiyi."
Yiyi pressed the gun against his neck and took a deep breath, threatening coldly, "Hey, your life is worth more than mine, right? There’s no need for us to go down together, let’s compromise; you let me go."
The past feelings were no longer useful, so it was better to lay everything on the table and discuss terms. For them, there was no space for emotional considerations anymore.
"What if I don’t let you go?" Helian Ling Kong retorted.
Yiyi frowned, "Hey, are you kidding? You’re the Councilman’s son; your life is worth much more. Are you planning to die with me?"
Helian Ling Kong’s thin lips curled up disdainfully, his eyes flashing like shadows in the dark night, staring at her as if she were a joke.
"Die with you? Are you worthy?"
Yiyi felt a sharp pain stab her chest, a subtle ache, and snorted proudly through her nose.
"Ha, just joking. Even if you want to die together, I don’t. I’ve already got someone in mind for a death pact, and you’re not in the running."
Now it was Ling Kong’s turn to look displeased.
"That guy Wubai?"
"Who it is, is none of your business."
"It’s indeed none of my business, but do you really think your gun is faster than Ling Kong’s blade? Do you believe that I can kill you before you fire and dodge your bullet?" He spoke with a confident and arrogant tone.
Yiyi was startled; though she hadn’t seen Ling Kong’s swordsmanship, somehow she instinctively felt that he wasn’t bragging. His sword skills were formidable, and she wasn’t sure she could shoot as fast.
Her heart became nervous, feeling oppressed and frustrated.
It was tough to seize this opportunity and subdue him, only to find herself at a disadvantage now, at his mercy.
But surrendering like this would render all her previous efforts in vain.
If captured, who knows what will happen, especially in such a sensitive incident, being mistaken for a Queen’s supporter. Even if not dead, the treatment would be awful.
"Oh, the Councilman’s son, so arrogantly confident. I’d like to test whose is faster, your blade or my bullet." She scoffed as if dismissively. She couldn’t lose her momentum, or she’d be entirely under his control.
No matter how confident he was, was he not afraid of that tiny chance she might hit him?
After all, with his noble status, there’s no need to risk mutual destruction and hold his ground against her.
"Are you serious?" Helian Ling Kong’s face darkened, glaring at her fiercely.
"Of course, I’m fully prepared to wager my life. Do you have that courage?"
Helian Ling Kong tightened his grip on the sword, withdrew his hand, and turned his head coldly, "Fine, I promise to let you go."
