"Helian Nan, I want you to explain every single word to me clearly!" Ling Kong’s face was as cold as frost.

"Fine, I’ll explain, let’s talk about this rescue mission of yours."

Ling Kong raised an eyebrow, "I helped you, brought people to save your life, and now you turn around and bite me? I never expected you’d be so ’grateful’."

Halian Jing couldn’t help but frown, "If it weren’t for Ling Kong’s timely rescue, the casualties would have been even more severe. He deserves a lot of credit for this operation."

"Yes, it’s like a hero suddenly appeared, making a dramatic rescue. I don’t deny you saved me, but it’s hard to say who set me up and caused this disaster. Don’t think no one knows about the tricks you’re playing behind the scenes."

Helian Nan’s face showed hatred, a cold smile on his lips.

"First, let’s talk about what happened at the school, it reeks of suspicion. The mission was a secret, and hardly anyone knew about it except me. But after the massacre at the school, you were able to bring soldiers to the rescue immediately. Ling Kong, I never notified you, nor did I have time to inform other departments, yet you arrived first? Can you explain that?"

Helian Nan’s father, Helian Zheng, appeared surprised but secretly delighted; his son indeed had grown wiser, knowing to show weakness first, then using this incident to drag Ling Kong down.

Though much of the mistake in this mission was his son’s misjudgment, if it could be proven that Ling Kong was involved, perhaps they could turn misfortune into a blessing, letting the suspicion fall on this fellow, and have him doubted by Halian Jing.

"Yes, Ling Kong, how do you explain this? The military has strict reporting procedures, and such secret matters don’t easily get leaked first-hand. How did you get the information before other nearby departments and arrive first? You better explain clearly today, hmph." Helian Zheng joined in, repeatedly pressuring Ling Kong.

The atmosphere suddenly became cold and tense, as Helian Zheng and his son shifted from their earlier humble apology to suddenly acting confident, as if grasping some leverage, they began to press aggressively.

Halian Jing’s face grew darker as he listened; he could see that the father and son were deliberately trying to shift the blame to Ling Kong. Yet, deep down, he couldn’t help but question the issue they raised—why did Ling Kong appear there first?

By common sense, he really shouldn’t have been there at that time. Halian Jing had been arranging for him to handle other matters in a different region. This central and important area was indeed intended for Ling Kong originally, but was later assigned to Helian Nan. Could it be that Ling Kong outwardly accepted the assignment but secretly refused to submit, extending his influence into other regions?

Halian Jing had the utmost intolerance for such duplicity.

"Ling Kong, what’s going on here, explain yourself. I believe you have a reasonable explanation for your actions." Nonetheless, he had always appreciated and trusted Ling Kong; the tasks entrusted to this young man had consistently been handled impeccably, never letting him down.

He had also started to delegate more authority to Ling Kong, allowing him to gradually take on higher-level core tasks, helping him shoulder responsibilities.

"Uncle..." Helian Nan shouted discontentedly, feeling truly frustrated—this guy was merely an adopted son, yet Uncle placed so much trust in him.

This was clearly playing favorites.

Yet he was curious to see what explanation this guy would come up with.
