My spirit animal is a F–Rank gecko-Chapter 65: Azure basilisk (5)
Jaster let out a tired sigh.
I forgot—law enforcement are useless in fiction.
He looked back and saw Stella frozen in one spot. "Hey, Stella, are you okay?" He waved his hand in front of her face.
"That snake... It stared at me last time!" She spoke while touching her eyelid, then looked at Jaster.
"How did it not freeze me?" Jaster couldn’t give her a solid answer either, but he did get his question answered after the SWAT got crystallized by the snake.
He peeked at the serpent and smirked. He mumbled, barely audible so Stella couldn’t hear him. "This is good. That means the snake is following Greek mythology!"
Stella couldn’t exactly hear what he said, but she faintly caught "Greek mythology." Confused, she was about to ask Jaster what it meant, until a guy burst out of the café.
Their eyes widened. They looked toward the café and saw the man screaming at the waitress in front of the door. Then he sprinted away from the cafe, heading toward the opposite side of the basilisk.
The waitress started to chase after him but stopped when she saw Jaster signaling her not to go. She nodded and went back inside the café.
But it was too late. Jaster peeked at the serpent again, but this time it was slithering toward the café.
"Oh, shoot!" Jaster looked at Stella. Visible panic was on her face.
"Zara is in there! What should we do?!" He looked around the place where they’d taken cover. He spotted many bottles of cocktail on the ceramic floor of the building and instantly got an idea.
"I have an idea, but do you have any fabric and also a match?"
Stella shook her head. "I don’t have either of those. What’s your plan?"
Jaster brushed past her and grabbed one of the cocktail bottles.
"We’ll make a Molotov." He said it with a stoic face while holding the bottle. Stella was surprised at first but nodded.
Jaster glanced outside and saw the snake had reached the front of the café. It opened its colossal maw and began charging again—this time for the electric ball.
"Shit, we have to be fast. Quick, find any fabric and a lighter or something to start a fire! Looking at the enormous amount of liquor on the floor, this place was probably a bar."
They both hurriedly searched the entire place. They knocked over wooden barstools, looked in the back of the kitchen, searched every cabinet. But there was nothing—everything had been stripped away by the basilisk’s devastating beams.
Purple was helping search the place. He climbed up to the upper cabinet and went inside. It was dark, with only broken glass inside.
"Krrk?" Until Purple noticed a red object hiding behind a shard of glass.
"DAMN IT!" Jaster slammed his hand on the table. He looked again and saw the creature’s enormous orb growing bigger and bigger.
"What should we do?" Just as Jaster felt like giving up, he heard Purple call out to him.
"Purple?" He looked up to where Purple was peeking out.
"Krrk!" The gecko squealed happily and pulled its head back inside the cabinet. This time, Jaster could hear a scraping sound.
Then the gecko dropped a red lighter onto the wooden floor in front of him. The boy’s eyes lit up, and he quickly grabbed it.
"GOOD JOB, BOY!" He gave Purple a thumbs-up before heading toward the bottle of cocktail he’d opened.
"Krrk!"
"STELLA, ALL WE NEED IS ANY KIND OF FABRIC!" He shouted.
After he said that, Stella came bursting out of the kitchen.
"Are you serious?!" She saw the snake’s orb growing bigger and bigger, and her thoughts drifted toward one specific person.
Zara..... Stella looked down at her hands, then her eyes drifted toward a knife on the kitchen table. She hurriedly grabbed it, then took off her Bondspire jacket and started ripping it into pieces.
She came out of the kitchen wearing only her inner clothes, holding a bunch of ripped fabric from her jacket.
Jaster stared in disbelief as she passed him without saying another word. She grabbed the cocktail bottle, stuffed one of the fabric pieces inside, and flicked the lighter. The flame caught the fabric, creating a fire that burned heavily.
"Stella—" Not letting Jaster finish, she wasted no time and started running toward the basilisk with the Molotov in her hands.
The closer she got to the snake, the more debris and pebbles got swept into the giant electric orb. The fire in the fabric kept weakening due to the harsh wind. Stella had to slightly cover the flame with her palm while running, never slowing her pace.
She got close enough to the basilisk, her eyes blazing with anger, and shouted at the snake.
"FOR ZARA!"
She threw the Molotov toward the snake’s head. The beast was about to release the giant orb, but the bottle hit the snake’s scaly head and then—
BOOOMM!
A large explosion ripped through the air and ground, creating a huge blast that covered the area where the basilisk stood in gray, puffy smoke.
The smoke eventually scattered, covering the whole café and Stella as well. She coughed while covering her nose. She tried to open her eyes, wanting to see the damage it had caused.
"Stella!" She could hear Jaster screaming from outside the smoke. Then she felt someone grab her shoulder. She turned around and wasn’t surprised to see the white-haired boy.
He was holding two more Molotovs, one in each hand. He gave one to Stella. "Did you hit the snake?"
Stella smiled and proudly nodded. The smoke began to clear, and she turned her head, wanting to see the damage she’d caused to the beast.
But her proud expression immediately faltered at the sight in front of her.
The colossal beast remained unscathed. Its diamond skin shone even brighter. The spot on its head where Stella had struck didn’t even leave a dent. And the snake was now directly looking at the two of them.
"How...." While Stella was truly surprised it didn’t hurt the monster, Jaster, on the other hand, wasn’t that shocked.
