Chapter 49: Rolf, The Branch Head, Getting the Ingredient! Nation Destroying Entities! Monsters!
’Luckily, I think I will have the money.’
Eryke quickly selected all the herbs needed for: Aura, SoulMark, Aura Projection, and last but not least, his Aura Farming spell.
If he could reach First-Circle Mage from Mage Acolyte, then he would again get his title, which might be strengthened again. freёwebnoѵel.com
Then he looked at the price:
"It came down to 99,999 dollars, huh."
He muttered in his heart with a thoughtful frown on his face.
This price was not too expensive, but this was only for a set of herbs.
Eryke would still need multiple sets for each of his clones so that he could establish their mana core and they reach at least First-Circle Mage.
Them reaching First-Circle had countless benefits to Eryke, so he tightened the blank check in his pocket and increased the set by six times the amount, and the amount came down to just $599,994.
Then he gave his order to the woman, who was looking at him with a professional smile.
The moment she glanced at the paper, her expression slightly changed, with her brows raising up in an arc that one couldn’t properly comprehend.
"Is there anything wrong, miss?" Seeing the hesitating expression of the woman, Eryke asked in his deep voice.
"No, it’s just that I was surprised."
She replied with a flustered expression and hurriedly ran away.
Eryke looked at his poor and dirty clothes and laughed in a smile. "I guess coming to this place in these clothes was really not optimal, huh? But these are already my best clothes."
Anyway, he just waited in place until a bulky man wearing military pants and a loose t-shirt appeared in front of him. This man was ginormous, around nine feet in height, looking at him with a questioning gaze:
"This little twerp is the one who ordered this?"
"That’s right," a nervous, stuttering voice of the woman came from behind the bulky man.
"...And who are you?" Eryke raised his neck with a calm gaze and a cold voice.
The bulky man didn’t reply. Instead, he took out a pair of black goggles and looked at him again. Then, he froze in place...
An entire minute of awkward silence passed before his body finally moved. At last, he spoke:
"Alright, I will accept your purchase."
"Thanks."
Eryke shrugged, took out the check, and wrote the exact amount. It was compensation for his car, why wouldn’t he use it?
After writing the number, he gave it to the man.
The bulky man gave the check to the woman behind him and quietly whispered some words, and she ran away.
"Cough, cough," the bulky man made a rather apologetic expression. "I am sorry for what I did to you, but I have a certain reason for it. The name’s Rolf, by the way."
Eryke didn’t speak, just peering at him with his blue pupils without a word.
Rolf, this giant hulk of a man, felt a little nervous when he felt the gaze of Eryke and rubbed his head:
"Come meet me in the office, and I can tell you."
"Okay."
Eryke accepted and was soon led upstairs. As he ascended, he noticed that the people’s attire grew increasingly formal. By the time he reached the top floor, a grand, luxurious office bustling with individuals working on computers and wearing headphones, the atmosphere felt entirely different.
He was guided through the busy space into the main office, where Rolf sat in his chair, wearing a nonchalant expression.
"Welcome, Awakener. I am a C-Rank Awakener, I also work as the Branch Head of this Awakeners Association branch."
"I see."
Eryke sat on the chair. On the weathered table before him lay a small mound of finely ground coffee and a kettle of warm water steamed gently as if it was enticing him to cook the coffee, and he did so without missing a beat!
Seeing the nonchalant expression of Eryke even when he revealed his identity, Rolf felt a twitch of his brows. Anyway, he started to speak while thinking in his heart, ’He has the power and capability to act silent’:
"Anyway, the glasses I wore had two functions."
He glanced at Eryken, trying to discern his emotion but couldn’t. Rolf was helpless and could only shrug his shoulders while raising his two fingers:
"The first feature is that it can tell how powerful one is." He withdrew one finger. "The second feature is the most important one, which can tell how much blood one has drawn."
"You are probably a new Awakener from the ’Second Coming of the Awakening,’ so you wouldn’t know, but the Awakener world is rather bloody and power-hungry, and there are some disgusting bastards."
Even speaking till the last sentence, there was a hint of murder in this old man’s tone.
"I see."
Eryke nodded, swirling the coffee in front of him before taking a slow sip.
Bitter!
It was the most bitter coffee he’d ever tasted, yet strangely, he found himself liking it.
"Do you really not care?" Rolf asked.
Eryke finally looked up at him and spoke, "I already knew about it. Is this all you brought me here for?"
"Yes. Would you like to take your test for Awakener now?"
"No, give me half a month."
Rolf hesitated, looking like he wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words.
At that moment, a woman knocked from outside.
"Boss Rolf, I’ve brought all the ingredients."
"Come in, Geneva."
The door opened, and Geneva entered, carrying a bag filled to the brim with items. She unchained it, revealing the contents inside.
Eryke glanced over the materials, then nodded.
"This is all right." He slung the bag over his shoulder and turned to Rolf. "I’ll be leaving then."
"Good luck, soldier," Rolf said with a smile and a thumbs-up.
"Thanks." Eryke stepped out of the Awakeners Building, only to realize his car had been wrecked, leaving him without a quick way to travel.
"Uber?"
He checked his phone, but the app had been shut down a month ago, actually, all ridesharing services had been completely discontinued.
Eryke crouched down, focused, and took a ready stance, staring ahead before he ran fast!
His speed effortlessly outpaced the cars on the street, even those speeding at sixty miles per hour.
Rolf watched Eryke’s fading figure and sighed.
"He’s a strong Awakener, but he probably won’t join us."
He shook his head, still haunted by the terrifying sensation he had felt when he looked at Eryke through his glasses. It was a feeling he’d only experienced once before, and that, too, from just a single glance by a monster!
"Boss, why do you seem so regretful?" Geneva asked, her curiosity piqued from behind him.
Rolf’s legs trembled as he slumped into his chair, a gleam in his eyes. He spoke quietly, almost to himself:
"We might have an S-class... no, an SSS-class Awakener soon in our nation. Call the headquarters."
Geneva trembled:
"Are you sure, boss?"
"Yeah! Only those two monsters have the ability to make such progress in the other world."
Geneva ran off with excitement.
An SSS-Rank Awakener, this was a cause for nationwide celebration!
They were the embodiment of the nation’s strength, the pinnacle of power.
Awakeners had different names for these rare individuals, but one stood out above the rest: Monsters!
Nation-Destroying Entities!
