As the bus limped along, Kent's phone buzzed again. He answered without hesitation.

"Hello, Kent, what are you doing? You should have reached the ruin by now. Where are you?" Jade's voice came through, brisk and exasperated.

Kent rubbed his temple. "I'm stuck on Highway 68. There's a massive traffic jam—Watchers and local defenders have blocked the highway because of the ruins' opening. I don't know how long this will take."

"Stop wasting time, just run there! A level-E cultivator can get there in two hours. Just run there, think of it as some exercise. The Ruin is showing signs of opening; they might burst any moment," Jade instructed.

Kent's heart pounded. If I go later, my treasures might be taken by others. He glared at the phone. "Okay, Jade, I got it. I'll head there immediately," he replied, his tone brisk with urgency before ending the call.

He looked out the bus window. The vast grasslands and farmlands stretched endlessly alongside the highway—an open, empty landscape that would make any run feel like a marathon in a desert. He turned to his siblings, who were still lounging and playing with their newly refined gear.

"Nima, Auri, come here. Gather our luggage. We're leaving. The plan has changed; we need to run to the ruins," he announced.

Kent couldn't help but take in the surroundings as they gathered their belongings. The scent of freshly tilled soil mixed with the faint tang of sea salt carried on the breeze in the air—a reminder that the distant ocean was never far away.

"We're really leaving the bus behind, huh?" Nima remarked with a half-smile, adjusting the straps on her bag while glancing at the sprawling countryside. "It's so... peaceful out here. Almost too quiet."

Kent nodded, his eyes scanning the horizon with quiet determination. "Quiet can be deceiving," he replied. "We're approaching the ruins. Jade said the ruin might open anytime, and we must be prepared." His voice held a hint of both resolve and caution, the kind borne out of endless battles and the thrill of adventure.

Nima frowned, clutching her pink Barbie suitcase and the scythe with the spatial bracelet at her side. "Big brother, I don't want to run. Tell me the location, and I'll take you there," she protested, half-teasing and half-serious.

Kent raised an eyebrow. "How? Do you know how to fly or something?"

"Dumb big brother," Nima shot back with a laugh, "I have Lumo the Spirit/Soul Bear! I can transform him into his battle form. We can ride him like a mount. We'll sit on his back while he carries us to the ruin."

Kent's pride took a hit as he stared, momentarily speechless. His heart sank at the playful jab—his little sister's impish ingenuity was now hijacking his carefully planned expedition. After a few seconds of stunned silence, he cleared his throat. "Alright, let's do it your way. This is the location—through the grassland and fields; that route is faster."

Thus, with an unspoken pact, the trio abandoned the bus. They dashed across the open farmland, the wind whipping at their faces, until they finally reached the outskirts of the ruin location.

They began running on Lumo back along a narrow, worn dirt road that led them toward the ruin site. The road was lined with tall, swaying grasses and occasional clusters of wildflowers that painted splashes of color against the monotone earth. In the distance, towering trees formed a natural border, their leaves rustling softly in the wind. As they ran, the sound of Lumos footsteps mingled with the rhythmic chirping of crickets and the occasional low moo from a grazing cow on a nearby farm.

The further they ran, the more the landscape changed. The flat, open fields gave way to rugged terrain—broken, rocky outcroppings and scattered boulders that hinted at the ancient forces that had shaped this land. The vast canvas of pale blue sky was streaked with wisps of clouds, and the sun's warmth grew stronger with every step.

At last, they arrived. But as they approached, the scene that greeted them was unlike anything they'd expected. The highest level of military control secured the area. Thousands of soldiers manned a massive blockade and a towering gate barred entry at the centre. Groups of guards paraded in perfect formation, and digital displays flashed warnings in every language.

A stern guard at the gate glared at them as they approached. "No entry without proper permission!" he barked, his voice echoing over the hushed murmurs of the gathered crowd. His eyes were cold and unyielding, scanning their faces for any sign of a forged document or a mistaken identity.

Kent stepped forward and tried to explain, "I'm a tier-3 Watcher trainee. Nexus Jade told me to come here, but he forgot to give me the permission letters." His voice was steady, though his mind raced with frustration and disbelief.

"Permission letters," Kent muttered under his breath. He knew they needed to show official clearance to pass through. Jade had given him verbal permission on the phone—but no written letters were in their possession. Kent tried calling Jade again, but the call went unanswered.

Standing before the gate, a stern guard glared at them. "No entry without proper permission!" he barked.

Kent grumbled, "Damn it, why didn't Jade give me any permission letters?" His voice was low with frustration as he realised they were effectively stuck.

Just then, a sudden surge of spiritual energy rippled from the clear blue sky. Kent looked upward, his eyes widening as he saw a flying boat descending toward the gate. Within moments, the ship landed with a thud near the blockade. A group of 30–40 Watchers disembarked, led by a distinguished figure.

The man stepped forward with authority. "Listen up, everyone! Although I am a Nexus (Yang Li), I must obey the rules. All of you here must show your permission letters. I refuse to repeat Jade Monroe's mistake at the Graveyard Mountains Ruins by letting dark alliance members in!" His voice boomed across the gathering crowd.

As guards began checking permission letters with stern expressions, Yang Li turned his attention to the trio. For Yang Li, Nima looked like his long-lost granddaughter. He fixed his gaze on Nima and asked, "What is your name, young miss?"

With a mischievous glint in her eye, Nima crossed her arms and retorted, "I don't talk with strangers. My big brother said the majority of the older men are perverts—like Master Roshi from Dragon Ball. Shu! Shu! Get away from me!"

The words struck Yang Li like a slap. His face turned crimson, and he froze in shock. This was the first time someone had dared to address him so bluntly. He glanced around, searching for support among his Watcher comrades, but everyone was busy showing their permission letters or waiting in line. Yang Li thinks, "How could she say that? I have fought in countless battles, commanded armies… and now, I am just an old pervert to a little girl?"

Yang Li cleared his throat and then asked Kent, "And you, who are you?"

Kent took a deep breath. He was shocked by Nima's statement. He thinks he must handle the situation well and speaks steadily, "I am Kent—a tier-3 Watcher trainee. Nexus Jade told me to come here, but he forgot to give me the proper permission letters. I'm just waiting for him to call me back and give me the permission letter."

Yang Li arched an eyebrow. "That greedy man," he muttered, though his tone softened as he continued, Ahem! "Alright, kid, I'll confirm your information. Wait a minute…"

A few moments later, He tapped a device on his wrist. "You two now have permission. Don't cause any trouble. And you, young miss—listen carefully—I am not a pervert. I always wanted a granddaughter, but all I got was a weird grandson with bizarre superpowers."

Nima's eyes widened, and she rolled her eyes. "Hey, old man, I don't talk with strangers! Sorry, But thank you for helping us."

Yang Li's face fell as he stood there, visibly shaken by her sharp retort. Finally, with a huff, Yang Li said, "Very well. Kent, you may proceed. Do not cause any trouble!"

Kent nodded, his face a mixture of relief and exasperation. "Thank you, Nexus Yang Li. We won't cause any trouble."

With the formalities complete, the trio stepped past the massive gate and entered the ruin area. Inside, thousands of young cultivators gathered in a sprawling camp. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation and nervous energy. Kent spotted Ethan and Mia among the crowd, surrounded by groups of adoring students who praised them like bootlicking dogs. The scene was both impressive and absurd—a riot of youthful energy and ambition under the watchful eyes of seasoned warriors.

Kent's heart pounded as he took in the chaotic yet organised camp. The ruins loomed ahead, ancient and mysterious, promising untold secrets and treasures. But for now, his focus shifted back to the mission and the challenges yet to come.
