Chapter 29: Chapter 30 – “My Accidental Fiancées Form a Band and I’m the Backup Dancer”

1. The Day Normal Died (Again)

I want it on record that I did not ask to be the emotional center of a supernatural high school harem. Or the star of a chaotic magical love triangle. Or the backup dancer in a full-scale interdimensional Battle of the Bands.

But here we are.

It all started at 6:13 AM with an aggressive knock on my door.

I opened it to find Chainsaw-Chan in a glittering leather jacket, wielding her namesake weapon... and a clipboard.

"Wake up, meatbag. You’ve got choreography practice in ten minutes."

"...For what?"

She shoved a flyer in my face. It read:

🎤 THE 1ST ANNUAL MAGICAL HEARTBREAK BATTLE OF THE BANDS 🎤

Winner gets your soul. And probably your heart.

Hosted by: Ayaka, Mirelle, Lilith, Arisu, and other dangerously emotional women.

"Oh no," I whispered. "They’re doing the thing."

2. The Catalyst: A Tie That Still Binds

Ever since the accidental engagement at the Magical Wedding Expo (Chapter 29, RIP my dignity), tensions between the girls had been high. No more assassination attempts (thank you, Sayuri), but a lot more emotional landmines.

Lilith ignored me.

Ayaka threatened to duel me every time I said, "Good morning."

Arisu... left cryptic origami notes on my pillow. One said, "Don’t trust the third chicken."

The girls needed an outlet.

So, naturally...

They formed bands to express their rage, longing, and unprocessed romantic trauma. Through music.

And who better to be the "symbol of shared romantic conflict" than yours truly?

Spoiler: me.

3. Introducing the Bands

🔥 BAND 1: FLAREHEART (Ayaka’s Fury Squad)

Genre: Battle-Pop Fusion

Members:

Ayaka: Lead vocals & pyrotechnics

Sayuri: Drums (while throwing knives)

Chainsaw-Chan: Bass guitar & spark showers

Signature move: A mid-song explosion shaped like a broken heart.

Sample lyrics:

"You promised fireworks / So I lit the fuse / Now watch me burn you / In three, two, BOOM!"

❄️ BAND 2: FROZEN REGRET (Mirelle’s Sad Girl Symphony)

Genre: Gothic Ballad-Core

Members:

Mirelle: Lead vocals & piano

Luna: Ethereal harmonies

Lilith: Electric violin (reluctantly)

Signature move: Ice mist across the crowd that makes people remember their exes.

Sample lyrics:

"You kissed me on a glacier / Said I’d never be alone / But snowflakes melt / And you turned to stone."

🌀 BAND 3: WIFE.EXE (Arisu’s Glitchy Love Song Time Machine)

Genre: Experimental Future Ballads

Members:

Arisu: Vocals & digital loop manipulations

3 holograms of me from alternate timelines

A drum machine possessed by a heartbroken AI

Signature move: Rewinding the concert every time someone claps out of rhythm.

Sample lyrics:

"You blinked and missed us / So I looped the kiss again / In timelines where I mattered / You were mine... back then."

4. My Role: Dancer. Prop. Emotional Punching Bag.

I tried to argue.

Really.

"Can’t I be, like, the MC or the guy who sells merch?"

Ayaka set her mic stand on fire.

Lilith said, "You owe us all an apology in interpretive dance."

Chainsaw-Chan held up matching glittery crop tops.

And so began my life as the backup dancer of magical heartbreak.

Each band had a different vision:

Ayaka made me reenact our first date with dramatic fire effects.

Mirelle choreographed a slow-motion fall to symbolize "the collapse of trust."

Arisu had me glitch backward while whispering, "But I loved you first," on a loop.

I never knew emotional suffering had choreography.

5. The Performances Begin

The venue?

The school’s amphitheater, now fully enchanted and floating thirty feet above the gym.

An audience of students, teachers, minor deities, sentient musical instruments, and one suspiciously judgmental raccoon packed the stands.

Performance 1: FlareHeart

Ayaka kicked off the show with literal fireworks.

Chainsaw-Chan did a solo while grinding sparks off the bass strings.

Sayuri dual-wielded drumsticks and kunai.

Mid-performance, I was dragged onstage in a flaming tuxedo while Ayaka sang about "revenge kisses and betrayal sushi."

The crowd? Roaring.

My eyebrows? Slightly singed.

Performance 2: Frozen Regret

Mirelle’s set opened with a single spotlight and actual snow falling inside the arena.

Luna’s ghostly vocals echoed as she floated across the stage.

Lilith’s violin solo made at least six gods weep.

I appeared dressed as "the ex-boyfriend who forgot to call back," forced to crawl across the ice while whispering "I’m sorry" to a slowly shattering mirror.

Yeah. It was that kind of vibe.

Performance 3: Wife.exe

Arisu’s set... bent reality.

Time froze. Reversed. Fast-forwarded.

My holograms danced around me, each representing a different possible timeline:

One where we were married with kids.

One where I vanished during a war.

One where she never confessed at all.

Her final lyric broke the arena’s sound barrier:

"I loved you in every version of me."

No one clapped. Everyone exhaled.

6. The Judges’ Verdict

Judges (aka the Gods of Drama, Emotion, and Romance) deliberated.

The raccoon threw a tomato at Chainsaw-Chan.

Eventually, the voice of the arena declared:

"WIFE.EXE wins. Most emotionally devastating. Highest audience emotional damage count. Excellent choreography suffering."

Ayaka: "WHAT?!"

Lilith: "...Unfair. She brought quantum heartbreak."

Chainsaw-Chan: "Next time, real chainsaws."

Arisu? She just bowed and left the stage like none of it mattered.

7. The Post-Concert Fallout

We gathered backstage, bruised and emotionally broken.

I collapsed into a bean bag.

Ayaka pouted, kicking a broken speaker.

Lilith sighed, sitting beside me, flicking her violin string.

Mirelle muttered, "At least mine didn’t involve holograms."

Arisu stood quietly, sipping tea.

"You planned to win," I said.

She looked up. "I didn’t plan to win. I planned to say what I couldn’t... out loud."

She handed me a flash drive. "Play this next time you forget what we meant."

And just like that, she vanished in a shimmer of glitch.

8. The Final Confession

That night, I listened to the track she left me.

It was simple—just her voice, speaking:

"Kazuki, I loved you before the loops.

I’ll love you even after time forgets us."

I didn’t cry.

But I didn’t sleep either.

Because even though I didn’t pick her...

Part of me wished I had.
