Chapter 47: Chapter47-The Death of Jake

Jake flew into a rage the moment he heard those words.

A murderous glint flickered in his eyes, though he managed to restrain himself—only because the girl was still nearby.

Looks like that girl’s status isn’t simple... She’s definitely not just any ordinary student from the Pyrothian Kingdom,

Joad muttered to himself, then turned and found another spot to meditate.

He had already given his warning. Whatever happened next wouldn’t be his responsibility.

These people were fools. Even after being advised, they still insisted on heading straight into danger.

All they wanted was to show off how powerful they were—drenched in their sense of superiority.

Just because they had the Pyrothian Kingdom backing them, they looked down on everyone they met.

But those who act arrogant will always have to pay the price. Since they wanted to show off, Joad figured he might as well lend them a hand—by pointing them in the wrong direction.

As for what consequences awaited them, that was none of his concern.

What Joad didn’t expect, however, was how soon the aftermath arrived.

Not long after, a tremendous surge of mana shook the air—coming from the direction they’d gone.

From within the distant mountain range, a torrent of pure dark-elemental energy burst into the sky.

Then came the shrill, piercing cry of a raptor, shattering the silence.

The giant parrot had clearly been enraged!

Its screech echoed like sharp blades, and at the same time, orbs of dark magic energy appeared in every direction around it.

The magical elements in the surrounding air instantly turned wild and violent.

Dozens upon dozens of death-element orbs rained down across the terrain.

Even the once lofty and indifferent middle-aged man had now joined the battle, locked in a vicious clash with the giant parrot, releasing massive waves of mana.

Blood had already soaked through the front of his enchanted robe—a deep, bone-exposing claw mark was etched into his chest.

Joad stood up, his face calm, entirely unsurprised.

Exactly as expected. These people... never listen.

He silently sighed, but didn’t leave. On the contrary, he stood to the side, watching with mild interest.

If both sides ended up severely wounded, he could step in to clean up.

While the middle-aged man was locked in a life-or-death struggle with the giant parrot, the girl from before had already retreated from the battlefield.

Her body was riddled with wounds—clearly she had suffered greatly.

But what surprised everyone was that the giant parrot no longer seemed interested in the archmage.

Its sharp gaze locked onto the girl instead, as though something on her was drawing it in.

The girl was fleeing with all her strength, but her pace was slowing.

Still, she didn’t give up, continuing to stagger toward the outskirts of the forest.

Joad watched it all unfold, but made no move to help.

His intentions were simple: enjoy the show, and maybe pick up the spoils afterward.

But what he didn’t anticipate was that the girl spotted him in the distance.

What shocked him even more was that she didn’t call out for help—instead, she used the last of her strength to shout:

"Run! Get out of here!"

At nearly the same moment, a massive orb of black energy smashed into the ground near her feet.

The corrosive power of dark magic instantly ate away at most of her clothing.

A look of despair crossed her face—for it was only then that she truly believed Joad’s earlier warning.

They really were no match for this magical beast.

But now, it was far too late to say anything.

The girl collapsed to the ground and lost consciousness.

At that moment, Jake finally reappeared.

He had always been a cowardly and cunning one. While the archmage fought the giant parrot, Jake had hidden in the underbrush and tried to escape unnoticed.

Joad frowned slightly as he watched Jake slip through the trees, fleeing for his life. Then, he silently stepped forward and blocked Jake’s path.

Jake’s expression twisted with fury when he saw someone had dared to stand in his way.

"Get out of my way, bastard!"

As he shouted, he raised his hand and launched a fire-element spell at Joad.

But just as the flames reached Joad, they mysteriously dissipated into thin air.

Jake froze. His body rose off the ground as if lifted by an invisible force.

His face instantly filled with fear.

"Weren’t you shouting so bravely earlier? What happened now?"

Joad said coldly, slowly approaching.

"W-Who the hell are you!?"

Jake’s voice trembled. The terrifying mana pulsing from Joad sent shivers down his spine.

Joad’s expression didn’t change as he calmly asked:

"Do you know the old mage, Peter?"

Jake’s eyes widened in shock.

"You... you know my grandfather? Listen, I’m warning you—for your own good. If you cross the Pyrothian Kingdom, it won’t end well for you."

"Our House of Jones is one of the four Grand Scholar families of Pyrothian Kingdom. You..."

"So you’re from House of Jones."

Joad nodded, seemingly thoughtful.

Seeing this, Jake’s expression relaxed a bit.

He must be intimidated now, Jake thought smugly. After all, very few dare offend a family like ours.

But then, Joad’s next words froze Jake’s blood in his veins.

"In that case, I won’t feel guilty about killing you."

"What the hell are you saying!?"

Jake’s eyes filled with disbelief and growing panic.

Right before his eyes, a transparent magical aura enveloped him.

The moment it touched him, it began to devour his body.

He screamed, but it was no use.

In mere seconds, Jake was gone—swallowed entirely by the magic.

The middle-aged man, still locked in combat, seemed to sense something.

He turned toward Joad’s direction, his eyes burning red with rage.

"You bastard! You’re courting death!" he roared.

Joad glanced at him coolly and said with a chilling calm:

"You should focus on surviving first."

The man was stunned.

He never imagined this brat had such terrifying means.

He wanted nothing more than to kill Joad on the spot—but he was completely occupied.

The giant parrot’s attacks were only growing fiercer. The man was nearing his limit.

Not long after, the mountains finally returned to silence.

Seeing a chance to escape, the man leapt back and tried to flee—

But just as he turned, a ghostly blue fireball appeared in front of him, blocking his way.

"You dare block me!?" he bellowed.

"I’m just reminding you to keep fighting. Don’t forget—you’re from the Pyrothian Kingdom.

Such a noble identity... shouldn’t be tarnished by running away, right?"

"You... you’re damnable!"

"I’ll remember you! I swear I’ll remember this!!"
