Chapter 141: Zenaya’s Blood Owl

The sorcerer’s voice still echoed across the broken land, heavy with pride and cruelty.

"It seems none of you could put a single dent on my magic defense spell," he said while slowly rolling his neck from side to side, bones cracking loudly as if he were warming up before a simple exercise. "Now then... it’s time to break you all as you leave."

A cold silence fell over the battlefield.

The Moonshade family stood scattered across the torn ground, their clothes burned and stained with blood. The air smelled like iron and smoke. Cracks spread across the earth from the force of their combined attacks, yet the golden barrier around the sorcerer remained perfect and untouched.

Former Baron Rivik clenched his teeth so hard his jaw trembled.

Ancestor Ghurn’s hands shook as he struggled to gather his breath.

Even the younger members of the Moonshade family, those who had rushed forward with burning anger just moments earlier, now stood frozen with disbelief.

"How...?" one of them whispered weakly.

Elder Noir wiped blood from the corner of his mouth and stared up at the floating figure.

"That shield... it’s absurd," he muttered.

Zenaya stood beside them, breathing heavily.

She had fallen to one knee after releasing her attack, her chest rising and falling rapidly. Her eyes stayed locked on the sorcerer, anger and fear mixing together inside her heart.

"Damn it..." she whispered under her breath.

Above them, the sorcerer laughed softly.

"You blood drinkers really tried your best," he said in a calm voice. "I almost feel bad for what comes next."

He slowly raised one hand.

The golden shield around him pulsed with light, growing brighter as magical energy gathered.

"Don’t worry," he added casually. "I will leave you alive. Broken bones, ruined organs, crippled magic. But alive."

His smile widened.

"After all, a living warning spreads fear far better than a corpse."

The words made many of the Moonshade members tremble with fury.

Ancestor Ghurn stepped forward despite the pain tearing through his body.

"You arrogant bastard," he growled.

But before he could move again—

A blur of red suddenly streaked through the sky.

WHOOSH.

The Blood Owl that had been hovering nearby suddenly surged forward with incredible speed.

Zenaya’s eyes widened.

"My owl—!"

The creature shot forward so quickly that even the air screamed behind it.

At the same moment, the owl released its grip and dropped Zenaya gently toward the ground before continuing its charge.

The sorcerer noticed it instantly.

He tilted his head slightly and smirked.

"Oh?"

A laugh escaped his throat.

"So the pet bird wishes to try as well?"

His hand moved calmly as he spoke a short incantation.

A dark blue magical circle appeared in front of him.

"Slow Bind."

A wave of heavy magic burst outward like invisible chains meant to lock the creature in place.

But then—

SWOOV.

The owl twisted its body midair and darted sideways, avoiding the spell completely.

The magical wave struck empty air.

The sorcerer blinked once.

"Hm?"

The owl rushed past him, wings beating powerfully as it curved through the sky.

The sorcerer chuckled again.

"Lucky," he said.

He raised his hand again.

Three glowing circles appeared at once.

"Gravity Snare."

Three beams of crushing force shot toward the owl.

The creature suddenly rolled through the air, diving sharply downward before rising again at an angle that made the beams collide with each other behind it.

BOOM.

The sky flashed with light as the spells exploded harmlessly.

Now the sorcerer’s eyebrows lifted.

"Oh?"

Below, the Moonshade family stared upward in shock.

Former Baron Rivik rubbed his eyes.

"Wait... was that...?"

Ancestor Ghurn leaned forward, squinting.

"Is that Elder Zenaya’s blood owl?"

One of the younger vampires spoke hesitantly.

"I... I think it is..."

The owl continued darting through the sky with astonishing speed.

The sorcerer tried again.

This time dozens of small magic bolts appeared around him.

"Let’s see how long you can dance," he said lightly.

The bolts fired like arrows.

The owl twisted left.

It dipped right.

It rolled through the air like a spinning blade.

Again and again the attacks missed.

The creature moved with frightening precision.

The sorcerer’s smile slowly faded.

"What...?"

He fired another wave.

Then another.

And another.

Each time the owl slipped through the openings with perfect timing.

The sky became filled with flashes of magic.

Yet the red bird kept gliding between them like a living storm.

Below, the Moonshade family slowly began realizing something.

Ancestor Ghurn looked toward Zenaya.

"...That is your blood beast, correct?"

Zenaya blinked.

Her lips parted slowly.

"Yes... it is..."

Several members of the family stared at her with stunned expressions.

Memories suddenly rose in their minds.

Long ago, when Zenaya first began her training within the Moonshade family, there had been endless whispers.

"She is not like her father."

"How disappointing."

"A child of that great man yet unable to contract even a single blood beast."

Those words had followed her for years.

Training grounds.

Family halls.

Private meetings.

Even the servants had heard the rumors.

Some had mocked her openly.

Others had simply looked at her with quiet pity.

Zenaya remembered every moment.

The cold glances.

The laughter behind her back.

The way some of the younger members used her as an example of failure.

"You should work harder," they had said.

"Otherwise you will end up like Elder Zenaya."

Her father had been famous for his powerful bond with blood beasts.

Yet she had shown no sign of that ability.

Years passed.

Nothing changed.

Until the day Cain arrived.

Zenaya slowly lifted her head and watched the owl soaring through the sky.

Her heart beat faster.

None of them had believed she could do it.

Even she had almost given up.

But Cain had looked at her calmly and said only one thing.

"Try again."

And somehow... it had worked.

Now that very creature was tearing through the sky like a blazing comet.

The Moonshade family continued staring upward.

One of the elders muttered under his breath.

"So she really did it..."

Another shook his head in disbelief.

"After all these years..."

But then someone else spoke grimly.

"It doesn’t matter."

The words cut through the moment like a blade.

All eyes turned toward the battlefield again.

The sorcerer still floated in the sky, completely unharmed inside his golden barrier.

Ancestor Ghurn sighed heavily.

"That shield blocked our full strength attacks," he said. "Even the combined power of our ancestors failed."

His gaze followed the owl.

"I doubt the beast can break it."

Several others nodded slowly.

"Yes..."

"Unfortunately..."

Their hopes began to dim again.

Up above, the owl finally curved toward the sorcerer directly.

The sorcerer’s eyes narrowed.

"Oh?"

He lifted his hand once more.

"Enough games."

A massive wall of magic formed in front of him like a golden fortress.

"If you wish to crash into it, go ahead," he said coldly.

The owl flew straight forward.

Its wings cut through the wind like sharp blades.

The distance closed rapidly.

The Moonshade family held their breath.

"Here it comes..."

Zenaya whispered quietly.

The owl reached the shield.

And then—

Instead of slamming into it—

The creature suddenly curved sideways.

Its body spun through the air like a red tornado.

"What?" the sorcerer muttered.

The owl circled him once.

Then again.

And again.

The air began to roar.

Wind gathered around its spinning wings, forming a violent whirlwind.

The sorcerer frowned.

"What are you—"

Before he could finish—

The owl’s talons suddenly struck the shield from the side.

THUD.

The golden barrier lurched.

The sorcerer’s body jerked violently.

"What?!"

Before he could recover—

The owl struck again.

BANG.

The shield tilted.

Then the owl kicked with both legs.

CRASH.

The entire golden barrier flew backward through the sky like a giant ball.

The sorcerer inside shouted in shock.

"What the hell—!"

The barrier spun rapidly as it plummeted toward the ground.

Down below, the Moonshade family stared in disbelief.

"It kicked it like a ball...!"

"Is that even possible?!"

The spinning shield slammed into the earth.

BOOOOOOM.

A massive explosion erupted.

Flames and dust blasted upward like a volcanic eruption.

The ground trembled violently.

Shockwaves rolled across the battlefield, throwing debris in every direction.

The Moonshade family staggered backward as the wind roared past them.

Ancestor Ghurn shielded his face.

"What kind of impact was that?!"

The dust cloud grew larger and larger.

For a moment, nothing could be seen.

Everyone stared at the massive cloud with tense expressions.

Former Baron Rivik swallowed nervously.

"...He should still be fine, right?"

One of the younger members nodded slowly.

"That shield blocked everything before..."

Another whispered quietly.

"Yes... there’s no way..."

The dust slowly began to settle.

Shapes started becoming visible inside the cloud.

And then—

A figure appeared.

The sorcerer.

He was still standing.

But his body looked completely different.

Blood covered his robes.

Dark red stains ran across his face and arms.

His hair was messy and his breathing had grown heavy.

The Moonshade family gasped in shock.

"He’s bleeding!"

"That attack actually hurt him!"

Ancestor Ghurn’s eyes widened.

"Incredible..."

Even Zenaya stared upward in disbelief.

The owl hovered high above the battlefield, wings spread wide.

Then it released a loud, powerful squawk.

"KRAAAAAAA!"

The sound echoed across the sky like a victory cry.

The sorcerer froze.

He immediately realized what happened earlier. Then his face twisted with fury.

Slowly... he lifted his head and looked up at the bird.

His eyes burned with rage.

And then he shouted at the top of his lungs.

"DAMN YOU FOUL BEAST!"
