My Tribrid System: More than a Monster-Chapter 116: Eyes of Anger!
Chapter 114
Time and time again, Van had to witness Ray genuinely lose himself to a primal fury.
And every single time, it always led back to him.
Being scrawny and academically inclined, Van had been the perfect target for bullies back when they were small children.
Each time, Ray had stood up to defend his friend without hesitation.
But whenever those bullies crossed a line—even by drawing a thin scratch of blood on him—Ray would lose it.
He became legendary for his terrifying rage then.
At five or six years old, he was incredibly dangerous, not necessarily because he was strong, but because he was entirely unpredictable and wouldn’t hesitate to smash a piece of wood into someone’s face.
It was only as they grew into teenagers that he had become calmer, more controlled.
Now, however, remnants of the past Ray were beginning to surface again.
’What have I done?’ Van genuinely mused as he knelt on the floor in pain, watching the violent exchange unfolding before him.
The moment he sent the flames roaring, Berg had already moved like a storm.
He was no longer in front of Ray after the silver-haired boy had dealt with the initial fire.
But with his high perception, Ray quickly tilted his head to the side just as a pen flew past his face at immense speed.
It had been thrown by Berg and, unfortunately, was merely a clever feint.
The legacy took that split-second opportunity to appear directly in front of Ray, whose head was still tilted from avoiding the projectile.
A fiery punch was coming in from below at a blazing velocity.
Yet, Ray looked completely unfazed as a cold anger burned deep within his eyes.
His leg shot out at rapid speed, his boot colliding squarely with the incoming punch.
A low, resonant ringing noise filled the hallway, and everyone watching gulped at the display of raw power.
— Is—is he really just a mere grade 1 human? What on earth is going on here?
Berg could be seen grinding his teeth in frustration at the fact that Ray was actually matching him in strength.
But he was wrong.
The Tribrid wasn’t exactly matching him in pure physical might; rather, he was predicting exactly where the descendant would strike by reading the erratic flow of his aura.
Vaulting off the ground, Ray spun through the air and swung his leg in a lightning-fast roundhouse kick.
Berg quickly lifted his arm, blocking the strike solidly.
That was until Ray pressed his leg tightly around the raised limb and spun like a wheel.
The next second, Berg found himself facing the sharp gauntlet claws streaking toward his face at full speed.
Flames instantly surrounded Berg’s second hand, which he lifted to smash the claws away before hammering his heavy foot into Ray’s chest.
"Ugh..."
The hit was devastatingly strong.
The boy could be seen sliding backward across the floor, his heels digging into the tile, but he wasn’t about to be deterred.
Unfortunately, before he could mount a counterattack, two more fireballs raced toward him.
Without any choice, Ray dove to the side, narrowly dodging the flames which instantly consumed several scattered pieces of paper, turning them into burnt offerings.
Rolling onto his knees, Ray placed his palms on the ground and, with forceful momentum, bolted back toward the legacy.
Within a second, he had closed the gap, and the battle devolved into a frantic close-combat struggle.
Mid-punch, Ray tapped into his focus, and from there, it became an exchange of rapid, punishing blows.
The two danced around the hallway as if it were a macabre ballroom.
Occasional streaks of orange flame hissed through the air, yet they kept going.
Bangs, metallic rings, and guttural grunts echoed through the corridor as each of them landed hits.
Ray was enduring significantly more damage, yet he didn’t relent for even a moment.
— Impossible! He—he is actually matching Berg in both strength and speed? How?
— He’s a monster.
"You dare call Van worthless? You called him trash? You are the only trash in this place!"
Ray screamed into the air amidst the chaotic clash.
A fireball finally found its mark, smashing into his abdomen with a sickening thud.
[-10 HP]
Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth as he went sliding backward in agony.
He still didn’t relent. He charged back in stubbornly, his gauntlets slashing at intervals to keep Berg on the defensive.
"How dare you call me trash? You absolute pauper!" Berg bellowed, his voice thick with indignation.
He swung his foot, which was boosted by a sudden jet of flames, hoping to catch Ray off guard with the explosive propulsion.
But with lightning charging around his feet, Ray sidestepped the kick, grabbed the outstretched leg, and then, in one fluid spin, he swept Berg off his feet.
Bam!
The legacy was roughly smashed into the ground, causing saliva to burst from his mouth.
His eyes almost rolled back into his head, but he grit his teeth in a desperate display of resilience.
Clapping his hands together right in front of his face, a fiery arrow burst out with incredible speed.
Ray was almost caught off guard; he proceeded to lean his head backward, but unfortunately, the attack singed his face, drawing fresh blood.
[-5 HP]
’Five HP from just grazing my face? What would have happened if it had actually hit me?’
That lapse of shock was enough for Berg to act.
He smashed his hands into the floor, sliding backward away from Ray’s body, and then he swung his foot toward the boy’s face in a vicious arc.
Ray immediately lifted his hands in front of his face to guard.
The gauntlet took the brunt of the attack, though the force sent him sliding backward on his knees.
Everyone just watched, stupefied at the show of strength from the ’weak’ Aspirant before them.
How he was hanging on and actually contending with a strong—if not the strongest—Aspirant among them at the moment was utterly confusing to them.
The two combatants glared at each other, visibly panting as droplets of sweat and blood fell from them to the ground.
’Sh-Should I use my strongest skill? I still have plenty of fuel left, but even though I’m pissed off, killing an Aspirant would bring quite the problem for me,’ Berg mused inwardly as he shot daggers in Ray’s direction.
"People like you—meta-humans like you—give the real, hardworking metas a bad name," Ray spat loudly, causing a heavy silence to fill the hall.
He rose to his feet with a slight stagger, his eyes burning with incredible anger and hate.
"You cowards use your abilities, the power given to you, to oppress the weak instead of actually doing what matters. You all are cowards—and not just Berg. Every single one of you in this hall is one!"
"...."
— What?! How dare you talk to us like that, punk? The fuck do you think you are to call us cowards?
"Yes. I stand by my words. Do your worst, you disgrace of a meta-human!"
’Ray... what the fuck are you doing?’ Van questioned inwardly.
His heart was pounding with intensity as he watched eyes of anger beginning to burn toward his best friend from every corner of the room. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Just take a single step, and I will make sure to bury you all six feet under." A callous, cold voice boomed across the whole hall.
Turning to the source, they could see a blonde-haired boy standing at the base of the steps.
An obsidian bandana covered his face, seemingly robbing him of his vision, yet his presence was undeniable.
His hands were tucked casually in his pockets as an aura of death wafted out from him, chilling the very air.
Van, on seeing who had just arrived, felt his heart leap for joy.
"Kai..."
