My Ultimate OP System: Summoning All Dragons, Gods, Heroes & Villains-Chapter 54: Uncovering Victor Keating(II)
Everyone turned toward her with weird glares on their faces.
She instantly felt smaller and regretted speaking, but then Ethan scoffed and said, "House Stark is part owner of more than half the banks in this city. Do you understand now?"
"Yes, I’m sorry, Master Ethan." She bowed respectfully.
"Eduardo, please..." Ethan said, gesturing for him to continue.
Eduardo nodded, then said, "Then I began to wonder, where does Truman lie in all of this? Because his personal account is being used for the diversion."
He paused and his expression growing darker. "That was when I discovered... Truman had gone missing. Or at worst, he’s dead."
They all reacted with surprised expressions on their face.
Ethan narrowed his eyes and said, "Hm. Pray tell."
Eduardo quickly moved to bring out another piece of paper and placed it in front of Ethan. "Now look at this, Master Ethan. These were transfers made by Hale Truman’s personal account over the last year."
He pointed. "Prior to five months ago, Truman made different transfers to other people, most of which were to his family members who all bear the same house name, ’Hale.’ But the most consistent one was to his wife at the time, Sabina Hale. And the last time there was a transfer to a certain Sabina Hale was five months ago."
He tapped the record to emphasize his point, then he paused and brought Victor’s transfer file closer.
"Now look at this, Master Ethan. Victor has made several transfers to the same Sabina Hale constantly. But along the line, the transfers stopped going to Sabina Hale and started going to Sabina Keating."
They all looked surprised once more. Eduardo nodded at their reaction and added, "Precisely two weeks ago, the name on the account changed from Hale to Keating."
Ethan, with a puzzled expression, said, "So are you saying they’re married now?"
"Precisely," Eduardo replied. "But just to make sure every coincidence was ruled out, I called a friend of mine at the Marriage House and asked him a few things about the Victor and Sabina Keating marriage."
He continued, "After a while, he called back and explained to me that Sabina and Victor got married quietly, right there in the Marriage House, two weeks ago. I asked about the legality of their marriage, given that Sabina was initially married to Truman and not Keating."
Eduardo’s expression grew grim. "He told me that was questioned. And according to Sabina, her husband Truman last spoke to her five months ago, right before he traveled to the Demon Continent and has not returned ever since. She claimed she knows he’s dead."
Ethan quickly added, "And by Gritnia’s law, any husband or wife may be declared unmarried if their spouse has gone missing for at least four months."
Eduardo was taken aback slightly. "Oh, you know that, Master Ethan?"
Ethan nodded. "I like to read through the laws of the country in my free time."
Eduardo nodded in acknowledgment, then added, "Additionally, everyone in this continent believes no regular human traveling to the Demon Continent comes back alive."
Ethan asked, "But shouldn’t the Marriage House have involved the authorities to investigate Truman’s whereabouts before allowing that marriage?"
Eduardo replied, "That was my thought too, Master Ethan. But I suspect Victor may have bribed his way through for them to skip the process."
Ethan muttered, "Hm."
Eduardo continued. "And yes, Master Ethan, the last time there was a board meeting at the company, I didn’t see Truman either. But I saw this other guy"
"a gaunt-looking fellow, brown hair and wearing a suit that was larger than his size, whom Victor claimed was an assistant sent by Truman to fill his spot in the meeting and report back to him."
There was a brief pause before Eduardo added, "I didn’t question it at the time but now, it all adds up"
That was when Valerie, who had been paying close attention, made a face upon hearing the description of the person.
She almost said nothing, especially given the reaction she had gotten the last time she spoke up, but then chose to speak anyway because this felt like it might be important.
She cleared her throat nervously. "I’m sorry for interrupting, Master Ethan, and Mr. Eduardo, but please, can I confirm again? Did you say the assistant to this Truman was a gaunt-looking fellow with brown hair and a poorly fitted suit? Oversized?"
Eduardo nodded. "Yes, that’s correct."
Valerie’s eyes widened.
Ethan noticed immediately and asked, "What is it?"
She bowed quickly. "I’m really sorry, Master Ethan, and I know I should have spoken sooner, but the day we went to the industry, I saw a man with that same description."
Everyone’s attention turned to her.
Valerie continued, with her words coming out in a rush. "He walked all the way up to the entrance and stopped near the vintage car. He had been on a phone call, I think. And after that, he turned to the other two men he came with and told them that the sale of Stark Industries would not be happening that day. Then they all left."
Everyone’s eyes widened in shock, and Ethan exclaimed, "What?"
Valerie nodded frantically. "Yes, Master Ethan. I didn’t speak about it because I thought it was all in your knowledge. I’m really sorry, Master Ethan."
Ethan leaned back as his thoughts began racing through. "Did you say this man was on a phone call?"
Valerie nodded. "Yes, Master Ethan."
Ethan turned sharply toward Eduardo. "If I remember correctly, Victor was also on a phone call right as we entered the boardroom that day."
Eduardo nodded slowly as he also tried to confirm the thought. "Yes, Master Ethan. He was."
Ethan leaned back into his seat, and his fingers began tapping on the armrest. His mind worked through the details with that period of long silence.
Then, finally, he spoke. "So by my understanding, Victor diverted the money through Truman’s accounts even during the periods when Truman was already missing. Which leads me to believe that he either was the one who killed Truman, or at the very least, knows exactly where Truman is."
He paused, then added, "And Truman’s wife, who obviously had been sleeping with Victor behind her husband’s back, also possibly knows this and connived with him from the start."
Eduardo nodded. "Yes, Master Ethan"
Ethan’s expression darkened further. "It’s also evident that this guy you both described is somehow involved with Victor. And they planned to sell my company right from under me."
He let out a sharp breath. "Goddamn."
Then he turned up and looked directly at Eduardo before saying;
"There’s no need for further investigation. Victor placed that hit on me."
