My Ultimate OP System: Summoning All Dragons, Gods, Heroes & Villains-Chapter 94: Encountering The First Monster
"Hold on," Miss Hana said quickly, stepping forward and raising one hand to stop anyone from panicking. "Before you overreact, we can breathe properly here."
Kieran paused at that and took in a deliberate breath. He held it for a moment, as though testing the air in his lungs.
She was right. It was normal.
"The mana flow here is also stable," Hana added, extending her hand toward the sky as though feeling for something invisible in the atmosphere. "And we’re not facing any sort of rapid dehydration or physical degradation."
She had just listed off a few conditions that made certain Worldshift breach types far more deadly than standard breaches.
Some Worldshift zones had atmospheres toxic to humans, that one couldn’t breathe without suffocating within minutes.
Others had extreme temperatures that would cook you alive or freeze you solid depending on which part of the alien realm they had pulled from.
And some made mana unstable
Thankfully, in this case? None of those conditions applied here. This terrain was habitable for them.
"More importantly," Hana continued as she lowered her hand and turned back toward Kieran, "the density of mana in the air suggests this is maybe B-Grade difficulty or A-Grade at worst."
Mr. Kieran looked at her with a deeply discontented expression on his face.
If he had known this was a Worldshift breach from the start, there was absolutely no way he would have agreed to let his students enter it.
Although Worldshift breaches were extremely rare nowadays, about as rare as S-Grade standard breaches.
Kieran however, blamed himself for his lack of caution as he had assumed this was a normal breach without properly verifying it first.
Unfortunately, there had been no way to tell what type of breach this was until they’d actually entered it.
The only reliable method for determining breach type beforehand involved waiting for Magi-Engineers from the DSB to arrive on-site with their specialized equipment designed for measuring the dimensional size behind a portal.
Now he and all the students were stuck here, because unlike regular zones, once you entered a Worldshift, there were only two ways to leave: either clear it by defeating its boss or wait for a zone break.
There was no other escape.
"Let’s get this over with," Kieran said.
Miss Hana nodded in agreement before turning around to address all the students gathered behind them.
Some looked frightened, But most still looked determined.
"This is most likely a first experience seeing one for everyone here," Hana began. "But this is a Worldshift breach. I know some of you have already figured that out just by seeing the terrain."
She paused, letting that sink in for a moment.
"However, the density of mana here suggests we can clear this. So I need everyone to stay ready and give me and Mr. Kieran some time to determine our best course of action."
With that, she walked off to one side and gestured for Kieran to follow her. The two teachers moved several meters away from the students and began speaking in hushed tones.
Ethan watched them go, then turned toward Percival and Bettie who stood beside him.
"I like that she seems organized, almost like she’s calling the shots here."
A brown-haired girl from Mallory High standing nearby overheard his comment and turned toward him with a slight smile.
"Miss Hana is a part-time member of a top guild," she explained.
"Ah, I see," Ethan nodded.
That explained why she’d been so eager to jump on the idea of clearing this zone instead of waiting for the Bureau or disembarking.
She had actual field experience dealing with situations like this.
-
Not long after, both Hana and Kieran returned to address the group once more.
"We’ve come to a conclusion," Kieran announced. "We’ll be dividing everyone into five teams of seven each."
Hana added, "By dividing up and spreading out across different parts of the terrain, we’ll be able to clear this zone much faster than if we all stayed together in one large group."
Between the students who had skipped the camping exercise for various reasons and those present now, along with both teachers, there were exactly thirty-five people inside the breach.
"We’ll let you choose your own teams first," Kieran continued. "It’s best to be paired with people you’re comfortable with or have fought alongside before."
The students immediately began clustering into groups based on friendships and prior experience working together.
However, it quickly became apparent that the initial divisions were uneven, both in numbers and in the quality of members within each team.
This led to a quick restructuring overseen by both teachers working together to balance things out properly.
At the end of the reorganization process, both Hana and Kieran made sure that each team had at least one member who was an awakened at the peak of A-Tier talent.
Someone capable enough to handle serious threats if things went wrong.
Thankfully, both teachers had also brought several flare guns in their packs. They had originally packed them for the camping exercise, but their use was being reconfigured now for this unexpected situation.
And they had just enough flares for what they needed.
Each teacher handed one flare gun to a designated student in each of the five teams and gave clear instructions:
"Fire once if you’re in danger you can’t handle," Kieran explained. "And fire twice once you’ve killed the boss."
However, that last instruction was mostly for effect and formality.
When the bosses of a Worldshift breach died, the walls of the zone reacted as the dimensional space destabilized, and everyone inside felt it immediately.
Bosses served as anchors that kept Worldshift zones open and stable. Without anything to hold the breach in place, the entire structure would collapse in on itself until it sealed completely.
And with those final instructions given and understood by all teams, everyone began moving outward.
The five teams spread across different parts of the wasteland, venturing cautiously into the terrain.
——
After walking for some time through the wasteland, Ethan and his team began hearing something.
There was this pounding on the ground, like a drum beating faster and growing louder with each passing second.
Dust kicked up around their feet and small fragments rocks began bouncing across the ground, vibrating with the increasing tremors.
"Something’s coming," Percival said, with wolf ears twitching as he turned toward the source of the sound.
The other six members of the team immediately took defensive positions. Weapons were drawn and magic circles began forming in the air around the casters.
Then they saw it. A massive creature burst over a rocky ridge in the distance.
It was a grotesque amalgamation of dark chitinous armor and exposed flesh. It moved on six legs, each one ending in sharp claws that tore through the ground as it charged forward with terrifying speed.
Its head was the most disturbing part: a massive palm-like structure with a gaping maw of teeth embedded in its center.
"A Lupamancer!" Bettie shouted, identifying it immediately.
"How powerful?" Percival turned to her quickly, in readiness to attack.
"B-Grade" she replied.
"Hm," Ethan muttered.
A ball of flames had already begun swirling before the magic circle hovering in front of his outstretched palm.
By applying his Amplification trait to the spell, the fireball’s size and destructive power were doubled to a 100%, growing far larger and stronger than a standard Tier 4 Fireball should have been.
But right then, a voice called out from behind him;
"Please everyone, move!"
Ethan turned his head. It was Sallie, the brown-haired girl from earlier.
She had already dropped to one knee a few meters behind them, her right hand extended forward and supported by the other as several blue magic circles formed before her in an overlapping pattern.
The team scattered immediately without hesitation.
At that same moment, the circles consolidated and aligned into a single trajectory aimed directly at the charging creature, as streaks of blue lightning began to erupt around Sallie.
The Lupamancer was closing in fast now, but right then, all that built up energy erupted forward in a singular blast of brilliant blue lightning.
"Tempesta Hastas!"
She yelled and even then, the lightning concentrated beam enlarged even more into what looked like a raging bluish white light of electricity.
The blast struck the monster, engulfing it and extending several meters beyond, leaving a massive detonation of energy.
A wall of heat and light washed over everyone watching, forcing them to shield their eyes from the blinding flash.
And when the light finally faded seconds later, nothing remained of the Lupamancer but dust. It had been completely obliterated.
Everyone was frozen for a moment, staring at where the creature had just been vaporized by a single spell. The sheer destructive power of that Tier 6 lightning spell left them stunned.
Ethan who had already dismissed his fireball spell turned to look at Sallie with genuine intrigue on his face.
"Impressive."
