Chapter 94- War is War (Part 1)

"..."

The news was shocking, to say the least. The entire world had taken it as a fact that Fiona was simply the only child Geralt had, and so she was naturally the heir to her family. The fact that she not only had a half-brother, but it was someone the world had never heard of before.

’But, why did she never mention that to me?’ Elio frowned. ’Maybe she just didn’t have the opportunity to actually tell me. Or maybe she just wants to keep it private since it is indeed private.’

"In any case, they kept that from ever coming out, since well, that child isn’t particularly good for the Vaylors’ image. They would rather he remain unknown than have to deal with media coverage of a potential scandal." Melissa said. "Humans are so funny. They would commit sins knowing fully well they would have to deal with the consequences later. Funny creatures indeed."

"You think we’re funny?"

"Indeed, after all, you try to hide the fact that you follow your desires far more than your rational mind. Not that vampires are any better, but somehow, humans are far worse than us when it comes to that." Melissa shrugged. "In any case, the fact that the vampire attacked again isn’t surprising. I guessed that it would do that."

"Eh?" Elio raised an eyebrow. "How did you guess that?"

"He is trying to lure me to come see him," Melissa said. "These actions are not random. He wants to drag Vaylor into a conflict so I would emerge. He knows such things interest me even if I stay hidden, and he is banking on the fact that he can somehow find me if I get close enough."

’She reached all that on her own? Her intelligence is... terrifying.’ Elio gulped. "Then, you simply shouldn’t go, right?"

"That’s where there is a catch, Elio." Melissa smiled a weird smile. "Even if I’m standing mere inches away from his face, he can never really notice me unless I allow it. Those vampires don’t truly know who I am. All they know are mere rumors."

"How long ago did you leave Eternal Sirene?" Elio asked. For ancient creatures like vampires not to know Melissa in person meant that she escaped a long time ago.

"Mmm, quite a long time ago... All the events I told you about happened way before you were born." She said. "Hmm, possible 100 years? Maybe even more, I don’t remember anymore."

"100 years..."

Just uttering those words was ridiculous. Melissa looked like a woman in her twenties or possibly early 30s at most, yet she had possibly lived way more than 100 years. That idea just doesn’t make sense logically.

"Hey now, don’t stare at me like I’m an old hag." Melissa smiled playfully. "I’m still in my youth and will be for a few thousand years."

"What the hell?" Elio blurted out. "Wow, i didn’t know vampires lived that long."

"The average lifespan of a vampire is around 400-500 years," Melissa explained. "It is mainly that long because we suck the life force of other creatures, and that adds to our lifespan."

"I see... Does that also apply to Vampire Hunters?" Elio asked.

"Yes, but not as efficient, let’s say. When you humans absorb Blood Energy, it turns more into strength than life force because you absorb it rather than drink it. Meanwhile, since we drink it, we get both equally." She said.

"Interesting." Elio rubbed his chin. "So, if humans started drinking blood, we would..."

"Yes, you would be able to do that. However, amongst you, isn’t it considered a sin to drink blood?" She asked.

"It is, yeah."

"Vampire Hunters refuse to do that and consider it breaking their law code. It ’makes them no different than the monster vampires they’re trying to eliminate’ as they said." Melissa explained with a sarcastic tone.

"..."

’We are being restricted by our very own morals... That’s somewhat mesmerizing to look at.’

The difference between humans and vampires was perhaps the most interesting case Elio had ever seen. Each side carried different morals, different goals, and different interests and yet... They were similar in so many ways. Even appearance-wise, the difference wasn’t that great.

Perhaps Vampires and Humans were truly sibling races that didn’t get along.

"Also, doesn’t it taste horrible for you humans to drink blood?"

"Oh, absolutely, it tastes awful," Elio replied.

"Such a waste. Blood is so delicious, especially yours~ The most delicious of all." Melissa said as she licked her lips.

Seeing that look in her eyes, Elio sighed. "Well, we did go a day without you drinking some blood, so here..." Arching his neck to the side, he let Melissa see his shoulder. Just that sight made her entire body shudder as if it had been struck by lightning.

She felt all the urge in the world overwhelm her body as she found herself locked on his neck. "C-Can I, Elio?"

"Mhm, go ahead."

Almost upon hearing the ok, she lunged at him. Her eyes had shifted as saliva started ripping from her mouth into Elio’s face.

"Well, if you don’t mind then~" 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Through the highway cutting through the forest, a dozen or so black cars moved as fast as ghosts as the sun set in the distance. All the cars were quite fortified with black-tinted glasses hiding everything inside.

Eventually, these cars entered deeper into the forest, stopping near the cabin. Then, dozens of men came out, all clad in different attires.

They looked normal on the surface, but these attires were armors, strong enough to stop strong blows.

Then, a man, clad in a black suit left the car, wearing glasses. It was Geralt Vaylor. He stared around him for a moment, taking in the scenery before he turned around and looked at his group.

He had brought with him his strongest Vampire Hunters.

A moment later, a boy with white hair left the car and stood next to him.

"Do you know where he is right now, Virgo?" He asked coldly.

"..." The boy nodded his head.

"Then, lead the way."

Without wasting any time, the group started marching through the forest. Meanwhile, some remained behind just in case someone attacked them.

Walking through the forest, they eventually reached a vast opening in the forest. One that was visible from high in the sky.

The space was completely covered in ice and destruction everywhere. A signs of a brutal battle that occurred there not that long ago.

"..." Geralt stared around, analyzing the place with every single detail there. "You have grown a lot, Virgo." He eventually said. "How long did you last against him?"

"... Two hours."

"Not bad. You did well." Geralt said before he signaled for his men to spread around the area.

"So, he’s here somewhere?" He asked as he started taking off his suit jacket and gave it to his helper. Then, he rolled his white shirt’s sleeves.

"I can feel his presence. He is watching us and knows we are here." Geralt said.

’Come out and talk to me, since that’s what you wish for.’ Geralt thought to himself. He had come prepared for every possibility.

If it were a war... Then war is what this vampire will get.
