Chapter 107: Selfish

The world stopped. In the high-end district in Crestfall City, the breakers of every store moved to protect their shops. Over two dozen Crows—information broker agents in suits—lingered at the edge of the scene.

Three dogs and a bird stood guard—yet not a soul dared approach.

At the center: two Crows writhing in metal restraints, a towering man gripping their skulls, and a woman whose soft smile made even trained killers tremble.

Bianca walked leisurely. "I see that the Crows talent is as annoying as ever."

Elian turned towards her, confused. His scans showed that both men had the same talent—Informative. But he didn’t actually know what it meant. Bianca, who kept one eye on his reaction, answered immediately.

"The Crows organization is built on Informative. Each Crow is a node in a living network. The moment one sees, the rest know."

The golem’s eyebrows furrowed. No wonder the Crows all did not try to fight the "dogs" with them. Anyone with brains could piece together that their party of pets was, in fact, the monsters in the videos they shared.

"It is also what makes the Crows so effective; they intentionally scatter, making any form of censorship impossible." Bianca’s heels clacked as she walked confidently to the bound Crows. "At least, for anyone but me."

Understanding the nature of the Crows, Elian marked each of them with a soul brand. He would hunt them with Driven - Hopeless if it came to it. In concern, he advised his lover, "Bianca, let’s kill them."

His words caused every Crow to flinch, not just the two in front of them. However, while he grew concerned, Bianca never lost her smile. Instead, she walked towards Elian and affectionately caressed his face.

"There is no need, darling. There is a reason: everyone was afraid of me. As Dr. Magnolia was assassinated, I am the only one who can control the System."

Elian’s eyes widened in disbelief. "What? How? Wasn’t she married to the Daybreak?"

For a brief moment, Bianca made a sad expression. Then she explained, "She was. He died protecting her from them. Heaven’s fist was tricked into killing him. I reviewed the logs; the Crows indirectly led Dusk and Twilight-tiered breakers to their deaths using the same tactic."

So even he was caught up in their schemes.

The golem nodded in understanding. It was a topic that invited a conflict of moral values. On one hand, Heaven’s Fist was a fool who butchered strong humans. But on the other, he believed in his mission and culled the weak to stop them from dooming the world.

If I am not careful, I will fall into the same traps.

Bianca then pursed her lips and kissed Elian. "Do not worry, I will protect you."

Elian placed his forehead against hers. "Thank you."

"I keep saying again and again, darling. You have no idea how great you truly are. Now that he’s dead, no one on this earth can stand against you."

She then separated from him and approached the bound Crows.

"As for you, I forgive you for your disrespect. But it will come at a cost. Are you interested?"

Both Crows nodded. But the hand gripping their faces tightened, they tried to pry Elian’s hands away as they screamed in agony. And in that moment of fear, the Dominator worms waiting near their eyeballs came alive.

Intentionally making them as hideous as possible, Elian created the Dominator worms to both disgust and terrify. They looked like flag slugs the size of one’s thumb. They had long needles and spikes protruding from their skin, as well as ant-like mandibles.

The two worms beside the Crows lunged into their right eyeballs.

"ARAGGGGHHHHH!!"

The men cried out in pain.

Blood jetted from their sockets as the Dominator worms bored inward, burrowing toward the base of the skull. Elian didn’t rush—he made sure they felt every inch.

Using his robust knowledge of human anatomy, Elian dissolved the worms and invaded the brains of the men. The Crows shivered as they felt something slide around the back of their skulls.

The pain of their cheekbones being crushed, even their eyes being destroyed, dulled. They now only worried about how to survive.

In their suffering, a melodic voice called out, "Darling, please stay your hand."

Immediately, the worms stopped moving. The men turned to Bianca with tears in their eyes in gratitude. But before they could speak, Elian forced them to look at him.

"If any harm comes to her, I will hunt you all to extinction."

Elian didn’t shout, he didn’t even try to appear menacing. He declared the condition for their survival as if he were ordering bread. He then threw both men to the ground like sacks of rice.

They quickly got up. Then, like a coordinated play, every Crow present got on their knees and slammed their faces to the ground. The two in front began to plead.

"Lady Winter, please have mercy. Our organization relies on trust to survive. We cannot suddenly choose a side, or we will be finished."

Despite their desperate plea, Bianca replied in a voice colder than ice.

"And?"

The men in suits all raised their heads in nervousness. Sweat poured from their skin in buckets, drenching their suits. Yet Bianca remained stoic.

"Remind me again why I should care? You lot are a species allergic to virtue. You sell information to both sides and make a living out of the web of lies you’ve spun. You stand on the bones of better men and call it progress."

She approached one of them and drew her sniper rifle. Bianca then smacked the brunet on the head, causing him to fall on his back. As the man tried to regain his wits, Bianca shoved the end of her rifle into his mouth.

"The only thing lower than your morals is the bar you set for your own soul. I personally lost friends because you showed others where to stab them. And now you plead as if you irredeemable vermin had morals? I’d pity you—if I believed you were capable of shame."

Fralhame’s lance began to light up. Floating ice mirrors all concentrated sunlight into its buttstock, preparing it to fire.

The Crow who sensed the mana aimed at him wept in despair. His trembling made his teeth chatter against the muzzle, but he could do nothing to stop it.

"For years, I had to endure playing with you spiteful, festering gnats all to survive. But that ends—today."

Pulling the trigger, Bianca fired.

A flash of light melted the Crow in front of her. His head, torso, along with the ground he lay on, turned to soup, glowing orange from the immense heat.

Horrified, the other Crows tried to get away.

Only for the "dogs" in front of them to suddenly burst out and turn into metallic monstrosities over ten meters tall. Above them, a bird ignited in a pillar of flame and burned alive. It then hovered at the center of the street.

The Breakers here were not cowards, but they weren’t stupid either. Thus, the moment the monsters came out, they all turned their eyes away. The stores on the street all began to shut their doors; their employed Breakers distanced themselves from the fight.

Within seconds only the Crows and the Elian’s Party remained.

Back then, Trevor beat me up and no one cared. Now? I butcher people—and no one even dares say anything. In the end, rules only matter to the powerless.

Meanwhile, still thrilled from the execution, Bianca turned to the next Crow. She then ordered in a clear voice.

"Shout it to the four corners of the world. That I, Bianca Valestra, the Witch of the Frozen Night, have returned. And I serve the one true Tyrant of Humanity—Elian Reed. Those who wish to live—bow."

Bianca aimed her rifle towards the Crow’s face. "Those who resist... shall be erased." And she once again pulled the trigger.

Seeing his woman’s actions, Elian turned to the Weapons and commanded.

"Kill them all."

The moment the words left his mouth, they responded.

AWWOOOOO!!

"FOR THE FIRE!"

Metal twisted, flames roared, and the beasts made war in broad daylight. It was not a battle but a massacre. Although there were plenty of witnesses, not one soul came forward to help. Not even those tasked with protecting the peace.

As Elian wondered why, Bianca came closer and rested her head on his chest.

"It’s because the Crows are not weak, but rather connected. They retaliate by using the strength of those who buy their wares. So, what I did just now was by far the worst thing I could do when we wanted to hide."

Elian embraced her tenderly and whispered, "Do you regret it?"

"A little bit."

"Then it’s fine."

Bianca pulled away and stared at her lover, "But Elian, it wasn’t supposed to be like this. We should have worked with the Crows and used them. But I remembered my friends who died. I got angry and snapped. How could I be shortsighted? I was too..."

Elian silenced her with a kiss.

"Did killing them make you feel better?"

Nod.

"Then they at least had some use," Elian declared as he hugged Bianca tighter.

"But Elian, I am a failure as an adviser. I was selfish and..."

"Bianca."

"..."

"My strength exists for you alone."

Bianca said nothing. Her throat tightened.

"Heaven’s Fist is gone. And I will grow stronger. Let them come. Do as you wish—I’ll take care of the rest."

"But..."

Finding this side of her adorable, Elian once again sealed her lips with his.

"It is okay to be selfish. I am here."

"Elian..."
