Chapter 113: Chapter 107: How Thick-Skinned

Jean Quincy’s shout nearly scared the Sinclairs out of their wits.

Master Sinclair froze in his chair for a long moment before snapping back to reality, his face flushed with excitement. "You... what did you say?"

"Leigh Miles just got the news! The Young Master of the Morgan Family is coming to our gathering tonight!"

"CLANG—"

The teacup in Alden Quincy’s hand fell to the table, sloshing hot tea everywhere and making him jump to his feet. "Jean, you’re not joking, are you?"

"Dad, the Morgans sent the message to Leigh Miles themselves. Right, Leigh?"

Leigh Miles nodded in confirmation. "Mr. Dixon said Morgan is at the mall buying a gift."

"Buying a gift?"

The Sinclairs were a bit baffled. They found this Young Master of the Morgan Family a little strange.

He was being far too good to their Aurora!

’Anyone who didn’t know better would think he was trying to woo her.’

Seeing Master Sinclair fidgeting, anxious to go downstairs to greet them, Janet Sinclair refilled his cup. "Just sit tight. He’s probably just coming for a formal visit this time."

The atmosphere in the room gradually grew tense, losing its earlier relaxed and comfortable mood.

Alden Quincy, who had never met Alvin Morgan, kept glancing at the door, his face a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

Finally, Leigh Miles held up his phone and said, "They’re downstairs."

Jean Quincy peered down from a second-floor window as a plain black sedan slowly drove up and stopped below.

The first person to get out was a man in a black uniform.

After exiting, he immediately turned to open the rear door. A shorter figure slowly emerged, dressed in a black uniform one size too small, which looked rather comical on her.

Jean Quincy couldn’t help but snort with laughter.

"Aurora, isn’t that uniform a little big?"

Leigh Miles nodded. "Mr. Beta said that’s the smallest size they have."

"It’s so ugly! Dad, when we get back, tell our family’s designer to make a custom-tailored professional suit for Aurora."

Alden Quincy always doted on his daughter, and he agreed out of reflex without a second thought.

Beside him, Jade Sinclair frowned and pinched him. "What are you agreeing to? You’re going to alter clothes for the Morgan Family?"

"..."

But his daughter had already turned back around and was waving excitedly out the window.

Her carefree attitude was truly worrying!

A few minutes later, the door to the private room was opened by a Sinclair family bodyguard.

"Family Head, the Young Lord Morgan and the Second Miss have arrived!"

"Quick, show them in!" Master Sinclair stood up excitedly, leaning on his cane.

His gaze was intense as he stared at the doorway.

A moment later, Aurora Sinclair walked in with Alvin Morgan, Beta Morgan, and Dean Morgan.

The three Morgans were each carrying several gift boxes, looking every bit like they were paying a formal visit.

The "social butterfly," Beta Morgan, was on the job again, warmly exchanging pleasantries with Master Sinclair.

This was Alden Quincy’s first time meeting the Morgans, and he was surprised by how approachable they were.

Young Lord Morgan, in particular, acted like a junior meeting his elders, treating the Sinclairs with humility, modesty, and courtesy.

In contrast to the adults’ enthusiasm, Zeke Quincy’s eyes narrowed as he secretly sized him up.

’Why do I get the feeling this Young Lord Morgan looks like a son-in-law visiting his in-laws for the first time?’ 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Beside him, Jean Quincy tugged at his sleeve, leaned in, and whispered, "Brother, why do I get the feeling Young Master Morgan has taken a liking to our Aurora?"

Zeke Quincy’s heart skipped a beat. He looked at her with sudden understanding and pointed at his phone. Jean Quincy understood and lowered her head.

The two switched to texting under the table.

[Zeke: How can you tell?]

[Jean: A gut feeling! The way Young Master Morgan looks at Aurora is just so doting.]

[Zeke: No way. He’s not right for our Aurora!]

[Jean: Why not? I think he’s great. The Morgan Family has a good background, Young Master Morgan is handsome..."]

[Zeke: No, no! He has an untrustworthy face, and he’s surrounded by women. Plus, he’s so much older than Aurora. She’d be at a total disadvantage with him!]

[Jean: What disadvantage? Young Master Morgan has the looks, the talent, and he’s so good to Aurora. Why is it a no-go? You’re not still mad that he crushed you in that game, are you?]

Zeke Quincy was so annoyed he reached out and pinched Jean Quincy’s nose, whispering, "Superficial! Am I that kind of person?"

"Hmph... Then why don’t you like him?"

Zeke Quincy glanced furtively at Alvin Morgan, who wasn’t far away, then lowered his head and continued typing on his phone.

[Zeke: Our families are on completely different levels. If Aurora gets bullied in the Morgan Family in the future, we won’t even have a leg to stand on! Isn’t Mom a perfect example?]

Jean Quincy froze for a second, then looked up at the two of them in the distance and sighed as if in regret.

When it was time to eat, Jean Quincy deliberately pulled Aurora Sinclair to sit next to her, with Zeke Quincy sitting on Aurora’s other side, completely preventing any possibility of her sitting with Alvin Morgan.

***

At first, the Sinclairs were a bit reserved because of Alvin Morgan’s status. But slowly, they discovered he lacked the superiority and arrogance typical of a young master from a great family. Instead, he was very calm and down-to-earth.

He would proactively pour tea for Master Sinclair when he saw his cup was empty and would answer everyone’s small talk with genuine attention.

Gradually, the atmosphere at the dinner table warmed up.

Just as everyone was chatting happily, Master Sinclair’s phone suddenly rang.

His phone was a smartphone made by the Morgan Group specifically for the elderly, with voice controls for quickly answering and making calls.

Master Sinclair didn’t bother to hide the call from Alvin Morgan and simply said, "Answer."

A characteristic of phones for the elderly is their loud volume. Even when Master Sinclair held it to his ear, others could clearly hear the voice on the other end.

"Mr. Sinclair, congratulations! I never expected your granddaughter to get a perfect score. With a grade like that, getting into the Arcadian University School of Arts is more than guaranteed. Don’t forget to have her fill out the application!"

Zane Guthrie’s reminder instantly made Master Sinclair remember his promise to the Guthrie Family. He looked at Aurora Sinclair, a bit embarrassed.

When Jean Quincy heard this, she remembered how the students and teachers at the Academy of Arts had ridiculed Aurora Sinclair. She was instantly displeased. "What Academy of Arts? Didn’t they all say Aurora missed the exam? Now they’re crawling back to us. They’ve got some nerve!"

Master Sinclair shot her a glare. The Guthries couldn’t be allowed to hear that.

But Zane Guthrie and Shirley Guthrie, who was next to him, still heard it. He was a little embarrassed, but Shirley was instantly furious.

Fearing Shirley Guthrie would say something nasty, Zane Guthrie quickly interjected, "Mr. Sinclair, Aurora Sinclair’s talent for painting is too great. It would be a shame if she didn’t come to the Academy of Arts..."

This Shirley Guthrie was Reina Guthrie’s younger sister. She had the same temperament as Reina, was extremely jealous of Flora Guthrie, and looked down on the Sinclair Family from the bottom of her heart. She believed that since the Guthrie Family had invited Aurora Sinclair, the Sinclairs should be eternally grateful and immediately start sucking up to them.

Master Sinclair didn’t respond right away, instead turning to Aurora Sinclair. "Do you want to go to the Academy of Arts?"

When Zane Guthrie heard that Aurora Sinclair was also there, he excitedly began to try and brainwash her.

Master Sinclair placed the phone on the table and put it on speaker.

Over the phone, Zane Guthrie appealed to her with emotion and reason, desperate to convince Aurora Sinclair to agree to apply to the Academy of Arts immediately. But after he finished, Aurora Sinclair politely refused him.

Zane Guthrie immediately grew anxious. "Why? If you don’t study art, aren’t you wasting your talent?" His tone was identical to Chester Greene’s.

"My master’s wife wants me to study archeology!"

"Arch... archeology?" Zane Guthrie was stunned. A perfect-score student was going to study archeology?

’Could this be Master Flora Guthrie’s idea?’

However, some archeology students did join their projects, but Erin Archer from the Academy of History was close to the Warners.

’Aurora Sinclair might be poached by the Warner Family in the future!’

At this thought, Zane Guthrie grew agitated. But before he could speak, Shirley Guthrie snatched the phone and said sharply, "Don’t be so obtuse. You already took the Academy of Arts exam and got a perfect score on the practical portion. Technically, you’ve already been accepted by the Academy of Arts!"

The moment she said this, the expressions on the Sinclairs’ faces changed.

’How shameless can you be!’

Shirley Guthrie continued to threaten, "You’d better think this through. The Guthrie Family doesn’t extend invitations to just anyone!"

"Heh..." Alvin Morgan suddenly let out a soft laugh, took Master Sinclair’s phone, and said lightly, "And Aurora doesn’t accept just any invitation."

Zane Guthrie found the voice somewhat familiar but couldn’t place it right away.

But Shirley Guthrie was instantly enraged, sneering, "How ridiculously arrogant! Do you really think you can look down on the Guthrie Family just because you’ve latched onto the Morgan Family and Flora Guthrie? Let me tell you, if you anger the Guthrie Family, you Sinclairs will regret it!"
