Chapter 451: Chapter 445: You Take Care of Grandma

“Uncle Gu, that is… my cup,” Tang Yuxin’s words were still hanging in the air when the cup returned to her hand, now empty.

“Is there more?” Gu Ning seemed very thirsty, having sweated quite a bit. It was visible, the sweat glistening on his forehead.

“Yes, hold on,” Tang Yuxin gripped the cup in her hand. She initially planned to get another one, but she decided against it. She’d already used the cup. What was the point of getting another one now? Besides, she wasn’t one to fuss over such things.

She refilled the cup with water, leftover from the kettle she boiled in the morning and had left to cool. The temperature in the courtyard wasn’t too hot, the water felt cool to the touch and was comfortable to drink—neither too cold nor too hot.

Gu Ning took the cup from her and began to drink.

He sat down with the cup in hand, “Any food around?”

Tang Yuxin thought a bit, then glanced into the kitchen, “Only noodles.”

“That’ll do,” Gu Ning wasn’t picky. As long as there was something to eat, he was fine even with a dry piece of bread.

Tang Yuxin placed the kettle on the table, letting Gu Ning help himself. It seemed as though he was severely dehydrated and needed to drink more.

She then walked into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator, inside were the noodles she had kneaded yesterday. She usually didn’t eat much, so she kept them in the fridge. Besides the noodles, there wasn’t much else in there, just a tomato, a small squash, some greens, two eggs, and quite a generous quantity of noodles.

Given her appetite, these would be enough for her to eat for two days. However, Gu Ning’s appetite was evidently larger, and she didn’t believe that these few noodles would suffice.

She used all the items in the fridge to cook a small pot of noodles. When she carried the pot out, she saw Gu Ning, who had fallen asleep at the table. He had dark circles under his eyes, clearly indicating he hadn’t had a good rest in a long time. She placed the noodles aside and took a seat.

Above, the phoenix tree intermittently dropped fragments of sunlight, casting a refreshing shade underneath.

A leaf had fallen from the tree onto Gu Ning’s face. Tang Yuxin picked it up and began taking a closer look at the man in front of her.

He was much younger compared to ten years later, lacking the weathering of time. His skin was still good, sporting a faint scar on his chin that, although unremarkable, carried a certain charisma.

He wasn’t your typical pretty boy, nor could he be considered handsome. However, he radiated a distinct male toughness and persistence. His past achievements attested to his character.

“Zhang Xiaomei is not suited for you,” resting her chin in her hand, she mumbles to herself, “You deserve better, no matter who it is, as long as it’s not Zhang Xiaomei.”

When she recovered her wits, she realized Gu Ning was awake. His deep black eyes locked onto her, his gaze both heavy and inscrutable.

Tang Yuxin’s fingers slightly clenched on the table. When had he woken up? What did he hear?

Gu Ning reached out his hand, and Tang Yuxin instinctively recoiled as if expecting a hit. She pondered how hard her bones would have to be to withstand his punch.

All she hopes is to not get crushed. However, none of what she imagined happened. He neither struck her nor touched her head, and most certainly didn’t tug at her hair.

Gu Ning simply took the bowl, picked up a serving of noodles, and began eating.

“Uncle Gu, why are you here?”

Tang Yuxin fiddled with the leaf in her hand, the silence making her feel a bit uneasy.

“Came to get the keys.”

Gu Ning had already eaten half a bowl of noodles. He didn’t bother adding any seasonings. Whether it was salty or bland, he still ate, and apparently, quite happily.

“Keys, what keys?” Tang Yuxin didn’t understand what keys Gu Ning was asking for.

“The ones for the hospital, I helped you clean up.”

Gu Ning prepared himself another bowl of noodles. True enough, one bowl was not going to satisfy his hunger.

After finishing another bowl, he extended his hand to Tang Yuxin, “Can you give me the keys?”

“No need,” Tang Yuxin didn’t want to inconvenience others. She would go and clean up herself.

“You’re already calling me ‘uncle’,” Gu Ning kept his hand outstretched before her, insinuating he wouldn’t leave until he got the keys.

Finally, Tang Yuxin went back into her room and came back with not just the keys but also a glass bottle, inside of which were medicinal pills about the size of soybeans.

“Uncle Gu, this is for you too,” Tang Yuxin handed the bottle to Gu Ning.

Gu Ning accepted the bottle.

“Candy beans?”

“Does this look like candy beans to you?” To Tang Yuxin, it looked nothing like candy beans, “These are medications, for your wife to take.”

“Wife?” Gu Ning frowned, “I’m not married.”

Tang Yuxin was taken aback, quite taken aback.

“No,” she laughed awkwardly, “It’s for your mother.”

“You mean, Grandma Gu?” Gu Ning understood. He pocketed the bottle of medicine, “Don’t worry, I’ll definitely bring this to Grandma Gu. And on her behalf, thank you.”

But referring to his mom as ‘Grandma Gu’ was too casual and natural for Tang Yuxin.

Could she really call Gu’s mom ‘grandma’? She had always referred to Gu’s mom as her sister.

So speaking in terms of seniority, it really was quite peculiar.

Without a word, Gu Ning turned and left. He didn’t even ask what the medicine was for. Wasn’t he afraid that she’d prepared poison for Grandma Gu and intended to kill her?

After closing the door, she sat down at the table and brought a bowl out from the kitchen. She poured the remaining noodles into the bowl but was taken aback upon tasting it.

Uh, it seemed that she’d forgotten to add salt or, instead, she might’ve accidentally added sugar.

The slight sweetness suggested that she must’ve mistaken the sugar for salt. Yet Gu Ning devoured two bowls of it. Was he that desperate, or was he simply being courteous?

As for Gu Ning, as soon as he got into his car, his phone rang. He pulled out his phone and put it to his ear. Modern convenience was truly amazing. He couldn’t seem to live without it anymore.
