Chapter 499: Death Warlord of Inferno

Ethan wasn’t overthinking it.

As long as Isaryne had arrived, the defenses of Emerald Castle just got a serious boost.

And from the looks of it, her power had grown a lot stronger than before. Curious, he quickly pulled up her status panel.

Ethan’s eyes lit up with excitement.

He hadn’t expected Isaryne to hit level 80 too.

"Alright, everyone take a breather!"

He gave the order for the troops to rest and recover, and recalled all the heroes stationed outside the castle.

The days that followed were surprisingly peaceful. No enemies came knocking, and Ethan took full advantage of the calm to recruit as many heroes and soldiers as he could.

Once his subordinates leveled up, they could start recruiting soldiers on their own too.

That sped things up—big time.

Time passed, though Ethan wasn’t sure how long exactly. When he finally had a moment to breathe, he realized Emerald Castle had not only returned to its former glory—it was stronger than ever.

Standing atop the castle walls, he looked out over everything he’d built and couldn’t help but smile with satisfaction. It was clear now—he didn’t need to keep hiding behind these walls. It was time to take the fight to The Dark Sovereign. Even if he wasn’t strong enough to win just yet, he could level up along the way, grinding through enemies and growing stronger with every battle.

He took a deep breath to steady himself, then opened up the system interface.

His current strength was easily several times what it had been before.

More than enough to tear through a Dungeon or two.

After taking stock of his forces, Ethan didn’t waste any more time. He rallied his army and marched out in full force, heading straight into the Dungeon.

...

Meanwhile...

Inside the grand throne room of The Dark Sovereign’s palace, chaos had already erupted.

The place was a mess—dozens of witches were chattering and arguing all at once, their shrill voices bouncing off the dark stone walls.

They had been so sure of themselves. They thought sending just one person would be enough to wipe Emerald Castle off the map.

But clearly, they’d underestimated their enemy.

Velissa and the 500 armored demon soldiers they’d dispatched? Gone. Wiped out. Not even a single message had made it back before they were slaughtered.

That alone spoke volumes about how powerful the enemy had become.

This time, they’d been careless. And now, they were in deep trouble.

The throne room was in complete disarray.

"My Sovereign, we can’t let them get away with this!"

"Maybe... maybe we should send a larger force this time."

"Our bodies can’t survive in the outside world. If we go out there ourselves, we’ll be at a disadvantage. It’d be better to lure them here and crush them on our own turf."

"This place is deep within the Dungeon. Even if they wanted to come, they’d never find the way. Right now, they’re probably still wandering around on the third floor like headless chickens."

"Then let’s open a dimensional rift. Drag them here."

"That’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard. You want to bring them straight to our doorstep? Might as well hand them the keys to the palace!"

"Enough!"

"Silence!"

The Dark Sovereign’s voice cut through the noise like a blade.

She slammed her staff down with a thunderous crack—BOOM!—and the entire hall fell silent.

"If we can’t go out there ourselves," she said coldly, "then we’ll send someone who can."

She rose from her throne, her staff pulsing with raw energy. A glowing totem appeared in the center of the hall, etched with ancient runes that shimmered with infernal light.

From the totem, a towering figure emerged—clad in blackened armor, radiating a suffocating aura of death.

"Karaxes," she said, her voice trembling with excitement. "Death Warlord of Inferno. It’s time to fulfill your contract."

The witches all instinctively backed away. The death energy rolling off Karaxes was so thick it made the air feel like poison.

The giant turned to her and spoke in a deep, gravelly voice. "My Queen. Why have you summoned me?"

The Dark Sovereign conjured a massive crystal orb in her hand. Inside it, Ethan’s image flickered into view.

"This man," she said, her eyes gleaming. "Find him. Kill him. Devour his soul and body. Leave nothing behind."

Karaxes stared into the orb. His eyes glowed blood-red, and a murderous aura surged from his body. A massive battle axe materialized in his hand.

"As you command, my Queen. Await my return with his corpse."

With a low hum, a swirling portal opened beside him.

Karaxes stepped through without hesitation.

...

At that moment, Ethan and his army were already deep inside the Dungeon.

They’d been tearing through wave after wave of low-tier monsters. None of them posed any real threat—his forces were too strong now. It was a clean sweep, a one-sided massacre.

BOOM!

A sudden, violent surge of energy erupted nearby. The air cracked, and space itself shattered like glass.

A massive armored giant stepped out of a swirling vortex.

Ethan’s eyes narrowed. The thing looked like a supersized version of the armored demon soldiers he’d fought before—only this one was several times larger, and the power radiating off it was on a whole different level.

"So... this is what they’re sending now?" Ethan muttered.

Karaxes sneered, his voice booming like thunder. "I see now. Just a pack of lowly insects. You dared to defy the will of the great Dark Sovereign? Today, I’ll offer your lives as tribute to Her Majesty!"

He raised his axe high, and in an instant, dozens of spatial rifts tore open around him. From each one, armored demon soldiers poured out—hundreds of them, maybe more.

But Ethan didn’t flinch.

He wasn’t the same as before. His level was high, and many of his top units had already broken past level 80.

"To me, you’re just a bigger, dumber version of the trash I’ve already crushed," Ethan said, his voice calm and cold. "You walked into your own grave."

To him, Karaxes was nothing more than a walking XP jackpot.

If he could take this guy down, he might level up again—and the loot could be enough to expand his army even further.

Karaxes, clearly not the strategic type, didn’t waste time. Once he’d summoned a thousand armored demon soldiers, he charged straight at Ethan, axe raised, roaring like a beast.

No tactics. No skills. Just brute force.

Ethan smirked.

"Amateur."

In a flash, he vanished from his spot. Energy surged through his body, condensing in his palm into a massive glowing sphere.
