Chapter 498: Chapter 219 Dark Knight, Death Knight_3

"Don’t spout nonsense, their faith has never changed."

Wayne snarked back, at least Mona’s faith had always been constant.

As for Philomena, it’s hard to say, she was no longer a pure Elf. From the perspective of faith, she had, unwittingly, committed sacrilege against the Moonlight Goddess and was a Blasphemer.

Austin didn’t believe it. Perhaps Wayne couldn’t manage it now, but in the future...

He warned, "Don’t you dare mess with Veronica!"

"Don’t worry, in this house, I’ll only mess with you."

"..."x2

Moments later, Megan brought in paper and pen, and the two societal drifters glared at each other, swiftly writing down their hidden secrets on the paper.

Wayne didn’t write Death Knight, tossing the blame on the Dark Knight. He understood himself too well, deducing Austin as if looking in a mirror, the other man wouldn’t tell the truth at first attempt either.

Therefore, this round of identity reveal could only be considered as excluding the wrong answers.

Austin pushed the blame onto the Death Knight he loathed the most, unrelated to that kick; dislike was dislike, no reason needed.

The two men folded their papers while looking at each other, and in mutual caution, they both withdrew their hands at the same time, then turned around to open the papers.

Boom!

A clap of thunder out of the blue resonated in both their hearts, leaving them utterly motionless for a long while.

Megan: "..."

What on earth is it? Speak up! It’s killing me!

Looking at the Death Knight written on the paper, Wayne felt the world spinning around him; Austin had guessed his identity, after just one meeting, deducing the Death Knight was him, based solely on that one kick.

So, that night Austin clearly held an upper hand yet stubbornly refused to show it, and he even forbade Megan from transforming into a Giant Dragon, all because he had discovered the Death Knight was him.

That trembling body could also be explained; Austin was forcibly holding back his resentment and rage, his head sweating profusely.

Wayne couldn’t understand why he had exposed himself, but after some thought, maybe it was because the villain talked too much. That night he hadn’t stopped babbling, which was a stark contrast to the Death Knight’s aloof demeanor.

Damn it, talkativeness leads to trouble. If only he had kept quiet at the time!

After a moment, Wayne turned around, flames igniting in his hand, burning the paper to ashes, and a gust of wind swept them away without a trace.

Austin did the same, each harboring a heavy heart, their faces expressionless as if attending a funeral, just watching, neither speaking.

Megan was dying of anxiety, what’s to be scared of with a soundproof barrier? Just speak, will you!

"Wayne, you can’t possibly be the Dark Knight!"

"Austin, you can’t possibly be the Death Knight!"

"..."x2

The two men spoke emotionlessly, each trying to catch any subtle changes in the other’s expression, but to no avail.

"Wayne, the Dark Knight had already appeared in Lundan when you were still undergoing training with MI6. After that, you were sent to Frank, so you aren’t the Dark Knight," Austin said indifferently.

"You lied too. According to my covert investigation, the Death Knight and you were seen at the same time. It might be explained by magic, but I’m more inclined to believe you’re deceiving me," Wayne said, believing it about eighty percent but still clinging to a two percent chance, he snorted coldly, "Let’s end it here for today. Since you’re unwilling to speak the truth, we’ll see about that. For the sake of our family, I’ll personally unearth the secrets within you."

"So will I."

Wayne walked away from the soundproof barrier, initially moving clumsily, but then his pace quickened, faster and faster.

Austin stood there with a darkened expression, his hand trembling slightly as he held the Ancient Silver Coin: "Hefei, Veronica, you two have quite the eye, this guy’s brain... but... it’s impossible, there’s no reason."

"My lord!"

Megan approached with a profound look in her eyes within the soundproof barrier: "What was written on the note?"

"Dark... Knight."

"Glug!"

Megan’s eyes widened in disbelief as she swallowed hard: "Why did the young master write that? He isn’t the Dark Knight, is he?"

"I underestimated him..."

Austin’s expression was complicated: "But if it comes to succeeding, I’m actually pleased. Give me some time, I think I’ll have to confront him."

"Is that wise?"

"Hefei and Veronica are willing to trust him, I don’t have a choice, and... this power has to be passed on to him eventually."

"..."

Megan looked at Austin with a complex expression, unwilling to hurt him, she held his hand.

"It’s okay, I won’t give it to him for now, and even if I do, I’ve prepared a new body. As long as Hefei is gentle, I won’t die." Austin shook his head and broke free from Megan’s hand.

...

Bang bang bang!

"Veronica, open the door, will you!"

"Damn it, how can I open the door now? Get lost!"

The young mistress’s villa, bedroom.

Wayne stood at the bathroom door pounding, heard rustling sounds inside, confirmed that Veronica had put on her clothes, snapped the lock, and burst in.

Veronica, wrapped in a bath towel, was drying her long hair. Seeing the social trash daring to come in, she raised her hand and threw a punch.

She didn’t follow through.

"Why do you look so pale?"

"I’ve been exposed."

"Ah, exposed what?"

"..."

Wayne didn’t speak and embraced Veronica, burying his head in her chest and nuzzling.

Creating no waves, he buzzed, "I just confronted Austin; that social trash is terrifying—he seems to have mind-reading abilities, knows everything, and guessed it all even though we’ve only met once."

"So, what is the secret actually?" Veronica pushed Wayne away, extremely curious.

"I can’t tell; otherwise, this family will fall apart..."

Wayne’s face was filled with helplessness. How could he say, ’Teacher/Veronica, your student/fiancé is the enemy’s Death Knight’?

Not good at all!

Wayne thought his secret would never be exposed and that he could keep hiding it forever, but he underestimated Austin’s observational skills and his sharp mind that seemed almost like cheating.

On second thought, if Austin sympathized with him, if he were to come into close contact, he would surely guess something too.

It would be logical; it would be odd not to guess.

But now, what should he do? What about the future? He wasn’t prepared yet.

Wayne’s heart was in turmoil. Seeing this, Veronica suppressed her curiosity and gave him a warm hug, comforting him, "It’s okay, mother really likes you, no matter what secrets you’re hiding, she won’t dislike you."

"And you?"

"Of course... I’ll listen to mother."

"Is that all?"

"..."

Seeing Veronica struggling until her face turned red, Wayne’s heartbeat accelerated, and without overthinking, he leaned down and kissed her.

Soft, and a bit sweet.

How could you do this?

Veronica’s eyes widened, she made a couple of whimpers then hurriedly stopped, wanting to beat the living daylights out of the social trash, but she found herself without any strength, and before she knew it, her eyes closed, lost in the adeptness of the social trash’s kissing.

A moment later, she recovered her senses and punched the social trash in the face.

"Damn it, who allowed you to touch me?" Veronica picked up the bath towel and draped it around herself again, pushing Wayne out the door with her face flushed red.

She squatted down with her back against the door, burying her bright red face in her knees, "So what if it’s known? You’re the family heir, mom and... have approved of you, Mister Lando has no right to object, he’s nothing at home, you might as well admit it and then make him spill the beans."

"This..."

Wayne gave a sheepish grin, having to admit, Veronica didn’t have a point at all. Old Login might seem to have no status in the family, but that’s only because he cared; when it really came down to it, he was the one who called the shots.

"Remember to come back and tell me; I want to know too."

"..."

Wayne stood outside the door, perhaps Veronica was right, his secret was already out; he might as well take this opportunity to test Austin’s secret.

It looked like the Death Knight needed to have a chat alone with Austin!

Showdown, no more acting!
