Chapter 305 (2): Raw Power is True Power

Wayne said bluntly, “Auston, my father, is the Queen’s first love, and their relationship remains ambiguous. Facing the Queen’s aggression, he chose to be a traitor among the Tulip Families and set an example by showing the Queen loyalty...”

“Unlike him, I have little goodwill for the royal family. Since the Queen plans to make a political attack, she should face the consequences of her failure.”

“Do you want the crown, Mr. Wayne?”

“That’s not the case. A villain has gotten close to the Queen. By forcing Auston to clean house, I’m demonstrating great loyalty.” Wayne raised his eyebrow. The baron named Kilmer was clearly a treacherous one.

Anastasia was still confused, but she only had to do as Wayne said. The more she asked, the more she would fall, which wouldn’t be ideal.

“Lady Holy Maiden, it’s getting late. I won’t disturb your rest.”

Wayne dismissed her with a gesture. Relieved, Anastasia rushed toward the misty area outside the cemetery. After taking a few steps, though, she stopped all of a sudden.

“Go, or you won’t be leaving.”

“...”

His fierce warning made Anastasia panic. Feeling as if she had been seen through, she hurried and fled the Great Cemetery.

Wayne narrowed his eyes, watching her appealing figure vanish from his sight. He muttered, “Interesting.”

Anastasia was interesting with a top-tier appearance and soul, but that wasn’t the point. The most interesting person right now was the Queen.

The Queen had selected two powerful divine weapons from the available options: Shadow Nightmare and Twilight Despair. Since she didn’t have twenty-twenty hindsight, she hadn’t made a wrong choice per se. She was pitting the churches against each other and having the knights crush all dissidents with raw power.

It made sense. Were Wayne in the Queen’s place, with limited information, he would also choose to utilize an alliance.

However, raw power was true power!

Power without raw power to back it up would only invite one’s ally to take over, leading to the fate of becoming a helpless puppet. Once the Queen had the chosen knights recover the Tulip Families’ power and drive away the Life Alliance and the Church of Heavenly Father, what was next? How was she going to control the chosen knights?

The Queen wasn’t a fool. Auston had praised her as an excellent politician and a sovereign worth following. Thus, the Queen must have a countermeasure against the chosen knights.

Perhaps the chosen knights were only the first step, and the Queen planned to instigate a fight between the churches, hoping for mutual destruction and shifting the conflicts. Even if one faction ended up the clear victor, the Queen had a hidden ace to keep the winning faction under control.

“Is it the divine blood?”

Wayne raised an eyebrow. When he was fighting Juliette, the demon familiar from Hell, he had the honor of seeing the true form of Juliette’s master, Mattea the Abyssal Spider Queen. Her human part alone was a great beauty with a devilish charm. Unfortunately, she was a demon!

Mattea had said that the royal family had divine blood and could trigger its power. Moreover, the power could be taken and was greater than the power of the chosen knights. Every night, the power descended upon Londan.

“The mist...” Wayne murmured, his eyes lighting up. “If it can be taken, it can be given to others. Thank you for your generosity, nature. I’ll accept the gift for Kristen.”

After careful consideration, he decided that he had to find out more about the power in case it couldn’t be controlled. There was someone who could get that information for him.

“I’ve chosen you, Auston. Loyal official, wait for the crown to fall on your lap!”

“Kekekeke—”

The more Wayne thought about it, the more excited he became. He couldn’t help but rub his hands together in anticipation as he planned for the future.

It was too tiring to be the generation to make a fortune, requiring hard work on his part; being the rich second generation was much easier since the previous generation would suffer in his stead.

Wayne hoped for his father to become as great as a dragon. Since his father would rather settle for being a lap dog, he decided to give his father a push.

All of the Queen’s allies had died, the Church of Darkness was Wayne’s to command, the fence-sitters of the Ministry of Magic would help whoever was winning, and the Tulip Families were eager to make a move. The royal family had no useful cards aside from their trump card, the divine blood.

Once the divine blood and the mist were dealt with, the brave and the loyal would be able to charge all the way to the palace to clean the house for their sovereign and bring about peace. Windsor would only go up, and even the goatee guy from Prussia would have to offer the lord of Windsor a drink and a smoke in respect.

Perfect plan!

That night, Wayne was in such a good mood that as soon as he returned to his residence, he went into the master bedroom and held Kristen, doing unspeakable things to her. Then he went to Vera’s bedroom and did the same, carrying her to the master bedroom while she was still dazed.

Ladies and gentlemen, Veronica’s fiancé.

Veronica didn’t have to be heartbroken. Although she was absent, her presence could be felt throughout the night with Wayne being her fiancé, Kristen being her white moonlight, and Vera being her roommate and best friend.

The second day, before dawn even broke, Wayne got beaten out of the master bedroom and enjoyed the supplementary meal that Veryl prepared for him. Then he drove straight to the Lando Estate.

Study.

Megan guarded the door and set up a soundproofing barrier, eliminating any chance of eavesdropping.

Auston played with the coin, his heart sinking as he looked at Wayne’s expressionless face. “What is this? Why did you visit this early? Did you do something outrageous again?”

It is a little outrageous. Wayne looked at Auston with a worried expression. “I’ve been behaving myself these past few days, not doing anything unusual. You, however, are in trouble.”

Auston frowned, sitting back on the sofa. “The Lando family has a terrible record lately, but the Queen can see how I’ve been behaving. She won’t make things difficult for me for too long. She’ll give appropriate leeway to the loyal.”

“Loyalty is in itself the reward for loyalty. You’re getting nothing but glory, or not even that. After all, what you do cannot be revealed.” Wayne disagreed. He presented the evidence, “A baron named Kilmer has appeared by the Queen’s side. Do you know him?”

Auston nodded. Kilmer hadn’t had much of a reputation until the war broke out, and the Queen transferred him to Londan. He was quite valued, entrusted with the full responsibility of taking back power from the Tulip Families.

Auston didn’t have a problem with Kilmer. It was natural for the Queen to have a secret confidant whom she had cultivated, and Wayne didn’t mind the Queen’s concentration of power, either. To fight an external war, the internal political landscape had to be stable. Only with a united front could Windsor fully focus on facing the changing climate outside its borders.

Who knew if the churches would join the war this time? They couldn’t go wrong by planning ahead.

However, Auston could sense Kilmer’s hostility toward him. Moreover, since Kilmer’s appearance, the Queen had become a little distant from him.

“There is a treacherous official beside Her Majesty!” Auston played with his silver coin, smiling like a treacherous official.

“You’re right. A terrible, evil traitor like you should’ve been eliminated sooner!” Wayne took out a silver coin and fiddled with it as Auston did. “I met Baron Kilmer last night at the Great Cemetery as the Death Knight. He told me about your terrible deed of taking kickbacks, as well as the Queen’s dissatisfaction with you.”

“Why did he seek the Death Knight?”

Auston’s heart clenched. He had kicked Wayne, the unstable variable, out of this matter. Why did the situation steer back to the same direction? Things weren’t looking good. There would be trouble!

The more he thought about it, the more he panicked. He wasn’t worried about the Queen’s plans, but that the Queen might believe her plan to be foolproof.

“The Queen further took away your power. From now on, Baron Kilmer will be the one to communicate with the Death Knight. You’re no longer—”

“Cut the crap. Just tell me what else Kilmer said.”

Auston got to his feet. It made sense for the Queen to contact the Death Knight without him, but things were bad when the Death Knight was Wayne, someone with many treacherous bones.

“Kilmer asked the Death Knight to make an appearance as the royal family’s ally to intimidate the Life Alliance supporting the Tulip Families. The Church of Moonlight and the Church of Nature, for example.”

Wayne chuckled. “You know that the other Tulip Families don’t really have a relationship with the churches, their connection limited to free economic aid. The only family that was close to the two churches is the Lando family. Simply put, the Queen wants the Death Knight to threaten the Lando family!”

(눈_눈)

Her Majesty, how could you leak the plan to the Lando family before the battle even begins?

Auston shook his head and sighed in resignation. “I know Her Majesty. She isn’t a cold-blooded person, so this is only meant as an intimidation. Nothing serious.”

“Really? I don’t believe you.” Wayne tossed the coin and caught it easily, speaking in a dry tone. “You only think that way because you feel assured in the knowledge that the Death Knight is a member of the Lando family. The Queen doesn’t know that. She only knows that she has a powerful ally, and it’ll be a waste not to do anything with it.”

Auston closed his eyes, slumping back down on the sofa. If the Queen really made a deadly move against the Lando family, he could only charge into Buckingham Palace with his sword and clean house with Wayne.

Kilmer would be the perfect sacrifice. It was because of his manipulations that the Queen foolishly misunderstood her royal subjects. Without Kilmer, the Queen would still be the Queen, and the Lando family would still be the Lando family. It would be a good ending for everyone.

“Moreover, the Queen asked for further partnership with the Death Knight by making more offers, agreeing to give all the interests that belonged to the Life Alliance and the Church of Heavenly Father to the Church of Death. It’s strange. I don’t understand it.”

Auston scoffed. “Stop acting. Just speak your mind.”

“It’s not a bad plan to sic tigers after wolves to protect herself, but how can the Queen be sure that the tigers won’t be greedier than the wolves after getting their fill? And how can she be sure that the tigers won’t become the wolves’ leader instead?”

Wayne narrowed his eyes. “I learned something important: something is wrong with the mist in Londan, and the royal family has divine blood. Even if the Death Knight bands together with the Darkness Knight, our family will face certain doom.”

“So that’s your plan?” Auston glared at Wayne. “You’re even plotting against me. Do you even consider me your fa—the head of the family?”

This is only the beginning, Wayne thought. The actual plot has yet to come!

With a shrug, he argued, “It’s not a plot. You treat your ex-girlfriend too well, so I’m worried that Master will suffer.”

“That won’t happen!” Auston got to his feet, telling Megan to step in. “I’ll investigate the mist and the divine blood, making sure that the Queen cannot use her trump card. However, I’ll be upfront. I’m only making a move if the Queen makes a move.”

“You, don’t do anything strange, or things will escalate out of our control!”

Auston stared at Wayne. The brat had to have other plans. He had to be wary just in case.

“Don’t worry. I’m the obedient sort.” Wayne gave him a thumbs-up and grinned. “As expected of you, you’re decisive. You must have looked into divine blood before. Just go ahead without looking back. Leave me to watch your back.”

“...”

That only makes me more worried!

Auston felt a headache brewing. The Queen was showing her fangs, and his heir kept putting a blade in his hand. He felt helpless, being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

It was unrealistic to keep showing loyalty to the Queen. He could give up family interests, but not his family. However, he could not follow Trash Jr.’s nonsense, or things would spiral out of control. The thought alone made his heart race.

He could neither advance nor retreat. Life was hard for him! He only hoped that it wasn’t too late yet. He hoped... that there was still hope!

Auston deeply regretted his life decision. If he had known what would happen, he would’ve just sunk the bastard to the bottom of the river in a trash can back then.

Now, it was one against six chosen knights between him and Wayne, or perhaps zero against six. He might be the one tossed into the river instead!
