Natural Disasters Strikes: I stockpiled like crazy!-Chapter 264: Delivering the Serum
In the motel lobby, the children gathered around Baoyin.
The moment they finished breakfast, they crowded around her in a circle, eyes wide with curiosity.
"Big Sister, what are you holding?"
"It’s from the ants and alien beasts my friends and I killed," Baoyin answered honestly.
"M-monster parts?" The children collectively took a small step back.
"There’s no need to be scared," Baoyin said gently, smiling to reassure them. "They’re already dead. They can’t hurt us anymore."
As she spoke, she remembered her first time handling alien beast hides. Back then, even touching them made her hands shake. It had taken time — and courage — to overcome that fear.
At first, the children still eyed the ant shells and beast hides nervously. But after watching for a while and seeing that nothing bad happened, they slowly relaxed. Then, as Baoyin skillfully cut, shaped, and assembled the materials into a sleek piece of armor, fear turned into fascination.
One by one, they edged closer and sat beside her.
"Big Sister is so cool! The armor looks amazing!"
"It’s like what heroes wear in cartoons!"
"Big Sister, let me help! I want to make armor too!"
"Here, do you need this?"
"I’ll arrange these for you!"
"What should I do with these?"
Before she knew it, the children had become her little assistants. They helped wash off dirt and dried blood from the materials, laid them out on racks to dry, handed her tools, sorted parts neatly, and even helped punch holes so dried tendons could be threaded through.
They were hardworking and quick to understand. With just a few instructions, they learned what to do.
Baoyin found her work becoming much easier — so much so that she half-seriously considered hiring them in the future.
Of course, she only let them handle the simple and safe tasks. The heavier and more dangerous work stayed in her hands.
As time passed, the children grew more inspired, their earlier fear completely forgotten.
On the other side, Feng Ran was with Uncle Wang and the two other uncles, teaching them how to deal with alien beasts.
The two uncles had worked as security guards before, so they already knew how to handle firearms. What they lacked was experience fighting alien beasts — where to aim, how to stay mobile, and how not to panic.
Uncle Wang, however, had to start from scratch. His first stance was shaky, his grip stiff, but after several rounds of practice, he gradually improved.
He couldn’t bear the thought of relying on Xiao Nan and her friends forever. Their protection wouldn’t last for a lifetime. He had to be able to protect his daughter-in-law, his grandchild, and the children here himself.
Even with a silencer, gunshots were still loud. They moved to a building farther away so the noise wouldn’t disturb Wang Ziqing and the baby.
Wang Ziqing sat inside Nanzhi’s car, watching her father-in-law disappear into the next building. There was longing in her eyes — she wanted to learn too — but she forced herself to stay. Her baby needed her more right now.
The baby finished drinking milk and giggled, tiny hands waving.
Wang Ziqing smiled softly and kissed the baby’s forehead.
For you, Mommy will become strong.
Elsewhere, Hei Qian and Bingwen were repairing and modifying the bus.
Weihao, meanwhile, was on the phone. Colonel Tang had called. Wang Chul had finally established contact, but the situation wasn’t optimistic.
"For now, we’ve gathered 145 wind- and fire-type ability users above Tier 1 as you’ve suggested, including your mother," Colonel Tang reported. "They’re on standby and ready to deploy at any moment."
"Thanks to the high awakening rate, the base has quite a lot of ability users. If some weren’t tied up with other missions or outside the base, the number would be even higher."
Weihao was about to respond when he heard footsteps.
Nanzhi walked over carrying two duffel bags. Inside were vials of golden liquid, small oil-paper packets of dried herbs, and 500-ml bottles of green liquid.
"Weihao, tell Colonel Tang to wait by the vending machine," she said, showing him the items while quickly explaining their uses and effects.
Weihao was stunned, especially when she explained the function of the golden serum.
Anticipating a possible locust tide, Nanzhi had previously experimented with insect repellents. She mixed lavender oil and olive oil grown from the Virtual Farm and Safe Zone in the Daily Dungeon with rubbing alcohol and water to create a spray.
She also made a burnable smoke repellent using dried herbs like rosemary and basil, citrus peels, cinnamon sticks, and Sichuan peppercorns.
Unfortunately, both the spray and the smoke were only effective against non-tier alien beasts, and the effects lasted less than an hour.
It wasn’t enough — but it was better than nothing.
There were no insect-type alien beasts available for testing, so she had tested them on bees instead.
The smoke and spray had some effect, but the serum was the strongest. Even from a distance, the bees scattered in panic after a single whiff.
"Okay," Weihao said, nodding. But as he looked at Nanzhi, he noticed the fatigue she was trying to hide.
Guilt pricked him. He hadn’t prepared well enough. That was why she had to push herself this hard.
He relayed her exact words to Colonel Tang.
Colonel Tang’s eyes lit up immediately. He guessed Weihao had once again received help from that mysterious person — the same one who had provided miraculous medicine during winter.
"Please thank them for me," he said quickly. "I’ll remember this favor."
He personally led a small team to clear the area around the vending machine.
The people already lined up there were furious.
"Hey! Even if you’re military, you should follow the line!"
They only calmed down after Colonel Tang compensated them with contribution points.
Soon after, he informed Weihao he was in position.
Then, before his eyes, the three slots that had held vegetable oil, dried herbs, and dried fruits vanished, replaced by rows of small honey-colored vials, packets of dried spices, and 500-ml bottles of green liquid.
Colonel Tang inhaled sharply.
These had to be from that mysterious person.
Of course, they weren’t free.
Weihao marked up the prices Nanzhi by a small percentage to compensate for the rush order.
Nanzhi didn’t object. She trusted his business sense.
The sooner she unlocked the Guild Function, the better.
