Chapter 30: Sunrise

The old man had informed her of the prices of the other things he sells as she watched him place the gold coin in his robe’s pocket, hiding it from a few people walking by.

Coco hummed, nodding her head as she placed her chin between her curled thumb and index finger, "I’ll have twelve different teas and five soaps with different scents— that is, if you have scented soaps, then the rest will be essential oil."

Coco murmured under her breath, the cog wheels in her head working as she calculated the sum of everything.

"So, the seeds I brought will be four hundred silver coins, the tea will be three hundred silver coins, the soap will be a hundred silver coins, and the essential oil will be two hundred.. An equivalent of a gold coin." Coco mumbled, words were incoherent, but the old man somehow understood.

"You could start your business with that quick thinking of yours, child." The old man commented, a small smile on his face.

Coco snaps out of her calculating daze and blinks, perking up at the words of the old man.

"I am indeed starting a business." Coco said and smiled at him, "I’m not sure if you have heard, but the village butcher, Renaldo? He became my business partner recently. Just tell him that you’re sent by me if you want to buy meat and he’ll give you a discount."

The old man’s eyes held a bewildered look, not sure if his ears were playing a trick on him or what, but nonetheless, he returned the polite smile Coco had given him.

"I will, I will." He laughed quietly, pleased that the notorious trash of Yogusho Village is changing for the better.

"Anyways, I won’t be taking the soap, oil, and tea for now. I’ll come back before sundown for them so please prepare those for me to take home to my husbands." Coco told him with a huff before she started walking, "Have a good day, old man!"

"You, too, child!" The old man called out, waving at her.

However, his hand froze in the middle of waving when he realized what Coco called him.

"Old man?" He asked out loud, an incredulous and offended look on his face, "I’m only one hundred and forty three! I’m still young! Old Jin is older than me and she’s already one hundred and eighty six!"

He let out an offended huff, the fruits in his hand getting squeezed lightly as he watched Coco disappear from his sight, "The nerve of that child to call me an old man!"

Coco could feel a shiver run down her spine as she walked out of the village gate, goosebumps rising in her arms, making her clutch the tattered robe closer to her chest, "Ugh.. Why do I feel like I angered a witch or something?"

Shaking her head, she continued her venture towards the forest to go up the mountain as she carefully stepped over the path that seemed stable for her eyes.

She was quite shocked that Lala hadn’t woken up from all the noises and ruckus earlier. She was turning in her sleep, but other than that, nothing.

She must have been so tired. Coco thought, slipping a hand inside the tattered robe to pick a raspberry and grapes. Might as well snack on the fruits on her way on top of the mountain, right?

The way up to the mountain was easier than Coco thought. It was much easier compared to her first day of trekking down the terrain which says a lot.

Coco stood atop the mountain, her feet planted firmly on the mountain’s ground. It’s not that she’s actually standing at the peak, but she was almost at the peak— just a few meters below it.

However, even if she wasn’t on the peak of the mountain, she could still see the distant horizon from her spot.

She watched with wide eyes as the sun began to peek over the horizon, its light washing over the rolling hills and trees that sprawled out before her.

The night sky was fading, the inky darkness of the night slowly giving way to the soft hues of dawn.

As the first rays of sunlight appeared, the sky was painted in shades of orange, pink, and purple— the colors streaked across the horizon like an artist’s brush stroking them across a canvas.

The sky was a beautiful shade of colors, little by little, the entire sky was washed with light, the sunlight spilling across the sun’s first rays casting a warm glow over the land.

Coco felt a sense of peace and tranquility wash over her for a moment, the cool morning air filling her lungs as she surveyed the beautiful scene before her.

If she has her phone with her or her polaroid then she would have taken a picture of the beautiful scene right before her eyes— saving it and posting it in her socials so her mutuals or friends online would be able to see the beauty she just witnessed.

Coco let out a sigh, feeling relieved that she is still alive— though she might not be in her modern world anymore, she’s still thankful.

Small things like this are what makes life better and easier for someone like her, just appreciating and grateful for the beauty around her.

Satisfied with the start of her morning, she walked further into the mountain’s forest where her happy place is located.

For some inexplicable reason, there’s a stream of river flowing near the house she was building even though she’s literally almost at the peak of the mountain.

She followed the flow of the river once and found out that it led her to a clear and breathtaking waterfall.

She took a mental note to visit that place with Lala once she’s done building her house, but for now, she has seeds that need to be planted.

"I’m craving salad so I’m going to start with lettuce."
