New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 587: Morning confrontation
When Coco entered the kitchen, she was noticeably shining and beaming, her cheeks flushed and looking refreshed.
"Good morning." Cleora hummed, a soft smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
"Did you take a bath?" The woman asked, noting Cocoa wet hair and clothes that seemed similar to the one she had seen her use to go outside. "Are you going to work now?"
"Yes, mama." Coco walked over to Cleora and pressed a loving kiss on her mother’s forehead. "I’m going to hunt a lot of monsters today so we can have a feast tonight."
Zaque and Alhai watched with soft gazes as Coco expressed her affection towards her mother, their lips curling into small smiles.
"Heiren finished packing your lunch before he went upstairs." Zaque informed her, walking over to the counter where Coco’s usual lunchbox was set and grabbed it. "Speaking of which, where is he? He said that he’s going to take a bath, but he’s taking an awful lot of time."
Alhai snatched Coco’s flask by the table and approached her, placing it inside her bag. "We both know how long it takes for Heiren to prepare."
Coco blinked. Heiren is the type to take a bath that long?
Coco’s quite sure that their morning fun lasts an hour, but Heiren takes longer than that? Is that why no one had tried to knock on her or his door to look for him?
Alhai smiled and placed his hands on Coco’s waist. "Mom told us how adorable you were when you were a child."
Coco snapped out of her thoughts and brought her attention to the third husband, eyes widening slightly in horror. "S-She did? What kind of things mama told the two of you?"
She had completely forgotten that her mother was accompanied by Alhai and Zaque!
She was so caught up in the ache between her legs and failed so badly to keep it on her pajama pants to even remember what Heiren was telling her before they started!
"Including the time you tried to run away from home.. But got lost in the garden and cried because you couldn’t find the gate.."
Suddenly, a little of what he said flashed on her mind and the horror on her face grew when she remembered it. "Goodness! Mama, what have you been telling them?!"
Coco pushed Alhai aside as gently as she could and stared with wide eyes at her mother.
Cleora took a sip from her mug and shrugged nonchalantly. "Only a couple of cute times. It would be a shame if I didn’t let them know how endearing you were at the time."
"Cute?! I’m pretty sure that those times are embarrassing ones!" Coco exclaimed, her face flushed with embarrassment.
"Hey now." Cleora huffed and shot her a pointed look. "It’s not just me who thinks that it was cute of you. Corinne finds those times unbelievably endearing, too."
"Yeah, because Corinne is my big sister and you’re my mother." Coco grumbled, burying her face in her hands.
She wants the floor to swallow her so badly and never let her see the face of this world ever again if it means burying those memories into the depth of one of her unused brain cells.
"Calm down, Coco." Zaque chuckled and walked to her, pushing the lunchbox inside her bag. "You were cute then, but you’re cuter now."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" Coco groaned, grumbling the words against her palms.
"Yes."
"It should be."
Alhai and Zaque answered at the same time, earning a snort from Cleora.
"Your husbands were pleased and happy to hear stories about your childhood, daughter." The older woman stated as she placed her mug down. "I wish I could show them our photo album, but I wasn’t allowed to bring anything here from our world."
Coco paused, the last sentence of Cleora’s words striking an important chord.
"Wait a minute.." Coco pulled her hands away from her face and narrowed her eyes at Cleora. "What’s that supposed to mean?"
Cleora blinked, her eyebrows arching. "What? Did I say something offensive?"
"No, but you said something suspicious!" Coco exclaimed, her eyebrows pinching together. "What do you mean you weren’t allowed to bring anything here from earth? Were you killed, too?"
Alhai and Zaque exchanged glances, feeling like they were about to head such an important conversation.
"Uh.. W-We’ll excuse ourselves." The first husband spoke up and grabbed Alhai. "Have fun!"
The mediators rushed out of the room and closed the door on their way out, leaving the mother and daughter in their own world.
"I forgot to ask you questions because I was happy that you’re here, but now, I want answers." Coco frowned, her body tensing as she searched Cleora’s face for any sign.
A frown, a smile, a sneer— anything! Anything to tell her that Cleora didn’t come here against her will like Coco!
Cleora stared at her daughter, the corner of her lips twitching and slowly, it curled down into a sad frown. The sight of it causing Coco’s heart to drop to her stomach.
"Mama?" Coco called, breath caught in her throat. "Answer me, please.."
Cleora averted her gaze, settling it in on the floor. "I got run over by a bus.. But they— the fairies, gave me a chance and told me that they will be putting my soul in the world where you were."
Coco’s breath stuttered, her eyes blurring with tears. "Oh, mama.."
"They promised that I would run into you sooner or later, but I got impatient and decided to look for you myself." Cleora mumbled, her eyebrows furrowing as she kept her eyes away from Coco.
"Then.. How about Corinne and Carina?" Coco asked, her voice a broken whisper.
Cleora simply stared at the floor, her eyes clouded with emotions. Then— she shook her head, lips trembling as she inhaled sharply.
"I.. I was so shocked at the news of your passing." She murmured, a sob pushing past her throat.
