New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 629: Introducing her friends [3]
"So, can you tell me how you met my daughter?" Cleora asked, her eyes settling on Jacques.
The pink haired woman nodded her head, swallowing the spoonful bite inside her mouth first before she answered.
"I met her through my husband, mother." Jacques started, her tongue darting out to lick the excess sauce in her lips. "She was carrying a flying pig on her shoulder at that time.. I was shocked because no one could carry a flying pig as easily as Coco."
"That’s because I’m strong." Coco commented, chiming in to the conversation before she shoved a spoonful of lasagna inside her mouth.
"Oh, so you’re strong? Physically strong?" Cleora turned to her daughter, tilting her head.
"Yes, mama." Coco answered, nodding her head. "Is it not the same case for you? I have strength as my passive skill and I can put points into it."
Since Coco will be explaining things about herself to Jonathan and Renaldo after dinner, she didn’t bother hiding the fact that she’s different from the people of this world.
Though it was confusing to her friends, even Jacques, because she hasn’t said anything to them yet.
Jacques could catch on a little because she already knows that Coco is different, but passive skill? Points? The same case as her mother? What are they talking about?
Does Coco have a special skill or something because she’s not from this world? Jacques couldn’t help, but wonder, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion as she look between Cleora and Coco.
As if to answer her question, Cleora smiled and said, "So, I guess I have more mana than you do because one of the passive skills I got is regeneration."
"Regeneration?" Coco blinked, leaning forward as she eyed her mother suspiciously. "I’m taking this as a sign that you’re a full-on healer then?"
"Yes." Cleora nodded her head, giggling at the way her daughter narrowed her eyes at her. "Remember when my dearest king beast attacked you? I healed you that night, right? That’s one of my active skills."
Coco hummed, chewing her food slowly. She remembered how that slimy thing crawled on her body and recalling it made her shudder.
"Ugh, that was disgusting, you know.." Coco mumbled, her face twisting in disgust. "If it weren’t for that pig, then I think I would faint from how skin prickling the feeling was."
"You’re being dramatic." Cleora shook her head and turned back to Jacques, smiling softly. "Anyway, mind continuing the story?"
Jacques flinched in her seat and swallowed her food, returning the smile of the older woman. "W-Well, Coco told me that I’m her friend, so we’ve been friends since.. And I took my role quite seriously."
"Too seriously." Zaque mumbled, huffing through his nose as he stared down at his food.
Now that Cleora and Jacques are going down Jacques’ memory lane, he couldn’t help, but remember the things he had said to Coco when they first met, along with the way he treated her even after she left the house. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
He also remembered the way Jacques became too protective of Coco when he wanted to apologize to her.
He remembered almost going into an argument with Jacques because she kept butting into his and Coco’s conversation that day, and honestly, it was getting on his nerves.
But due to that encounter, he slowly realized that he had started liking Coco.
It was subtle at first, thinking about what to do to make his apology sincere towards someone he had treated with great prejudice, but then, she mentioned that she liked the chocolate spread that he and Heiren made.
It escalated from that and he hasn’t regretted baking a lot of bread that will make her full, and happy, even if it made him and his friends argue at first.
Actually, now that he thinks about it.. He should be thanking Jacques for giving him the courage to continue pursuing her.
I got jealous of her before. Zaque thought, his cheeks warming up a little as he recalled the memory of him asking Coco to bring him to the mountains with her.
But alas, time is the only one who can tell what will happen to their future.
"It’s such a relief to know that my daughter has a good friend like you." Cleora sighed, a pleased smile settling on her lips. "Are you her first friend? Or was it your dearest husband?"
Renaldo shifted in his seat and cleared his throat. "It’s me."
Cleora shifted her gaze to the scarred mediator and nodded her head. "What was she like when you first met her?"
"Uhm, she was.. Strange, to say the least." Renaldo stated bluntly, averting his eyes from Cleora and focused on the food on his plate instead. "She was known for her drunkard ways and well.. She did try to pick a fight with me before, so I was skeptical."
"Which is valid." Coco commented, not looking up from her food. "Coco Hughes was an ass."
Renaldo, Kairo, and Jonathan looked at Coco, eyebrows creasing together as they shot her a glance with puzzled gazes.
Coco Hughes? Why is she referring to herself in the third person?
"She was?" Cleora gasped quietly, blinking owlishly towards her daughter. "Speaking of which, you haven’t told me about your story just yet, my love. Should we catch up for real later? Or if you’ll be taking a long time explaining things to your lovely friends, then can we schedule it in the near future?"
"Sure, mama." Coco agreed without missing a beat. "I want to explain a lot of things to them, so I might as well schedule it for next time."
"You don’t have to." Jonathan spoke up, making Coco look at him. "Your mother comes first before your friends, Coco. You don’t have to worry about us, you know?"
"It’s fine, it’s fine." Cleora quickly dismissed what Jonathan just said. "My daughter and I have a lot of time to catch up anyway."
"Exactly." Coco agreed, grinning.
