Chapter 671: Carriage and cloaks [2]

After taking a moment to relish the sight of them all sleeping so deeply, Coco finally steeled herself.

She took a deep breath and began the not-so-simple task of rousing them.

"Wake up, guys!" Coco exclaimed, pulling the curtains apart wider, hoping that a bit of light from outside could filter inside the wagon.

Unfortunately, she opened the curtains a little wider than appropriate and welcomed the cold air inside.

Whoooosh..

One by one, everyone groaned and stirred at the sudden chill— each letting out a noise of discontentment as the crisp night air rushed in.

It took a lot of effort from Coco to not laugh at the sleepy, grumpy expressions that greeted her when their beautiful pair of eyes finally fluttered open and looked in her direction.

The reaction was predictable.

There was a groggy chorus of grumbles and complaints filled the wagon.

Coco had to fight back a grin at the sight before her, each of her companions slowly waking up and hissing at her groggily, but Jacques, in particular, was sending a particularly disgruntled glare her way— though she couldn’t help, but find her grumpy expression somewhat endearing.

"Good morning, grumpy pants!" She quipped, unable to resist the tease.

Of course, this only earned her an even surlier glare from Jacques in response, but ignoring Jacques’ glare, Coco’s smile widened and her gaze skimmed over the group that was half asleep.

She gestured toward the neatly folded cloaks lying in the opened magic box, lightly nudging it towards them before turning her attention back to the others, who were slowly sitting up.

She held up the box with the cloaks inside, her smile widening.

"Anyways, guys.." She started and caught the attention of others. "We’ve already arrived and mama told me to give you these cloaks first— but I need to grab Jacques’, Jonathan’s, and Renaldo’s real quick."

"Theirs?" Zaque echoed, blinking his drowsiness away.

Heiren and Alhai squeezed him, so it was warm on his spot and indirectly making him feel comfortable despite the cold weather.

"Yeah." Coco answered and dropped the box on the floor. "Mama gave me my husbands’ cloaks first."

Her words made the mediators tense and flush with embarrassment— and even though Kairo wasn’t her husband yet, he couldn’t stop the feeling of embarrassment from creeping to his face either.

"How thoughtful of her." Kairo commented, burying his lower face to his coat.

"True." Coco agreed without a second thought, her lips curling up in a small smile. "But you know? She scared me at first. She was so silent when she dragged over to the carriage, but it was only because she wasn’t in the mood." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"She wasn’t in the mood?" Heiren questioned, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

"Yeah, she wasn’t in the mood to talk." Coco stated, turning her attention to the second husband. "It’s how I function sometimes, too. I get quiet when I’m not in the mood to talk."

"Well, aren’t we all?" Jonathan voiced out, making the others then their attention to him.

Jacques let out a long, exasperated sigh— though there was no real bite to it before swinging her legs over the wagon’s edge and dropping down beside Coco.

"It’s how I function sometimes as well." She grumbled and rubbed the last traces of sleep from her eyes.

"It’s a relief to know that it’s not just us." Coco stated with a wide smile, but she shot her friend a confused look. "What are you getting off the wagon for?"

"The cloaks." Jacques pointed out, her voice still rough from sleep. "They’re ours, right? You still need to get them from your mother, so let me help you with it. I don’t want to trouble you any more than this."

Despite her tone, grumbling and annoyed, there was an underlying warmth there— an unspoken fondness that softened the words.

Coco merely smiled and didn’t argue, happily passing her a nudge from her elbow as Jonathan and Renaldo jumped off the wagon to shuffle over, still half-asleep, but willing to assist as well.

Somehow, even when grumpy, they still came to her aid.

Coco gave a satisfied hum, pushing the magical box over to Alhai with a quick squeeze on his hand using her free hand.

"Here you go, handsome." She chirped, voice low and playful. "Distribute these to others and make sure everyone bundles up before stepping out, okay? it’s fucking freezing out here."

Despite the cold air and the harsh freezing weather, Alhai’s face and body felt warm.

The others could tell that Coco was blatantly flirting with the silver haired mediator, but his reaction was so satisfying to see, so they couldn’t bring themselves to feel envious of him.

They know that Coco will give them their turn anyway.

Without waiting for a response from Alhai, she spun on her heel and unceremoniously grabbed Jacques’ wrist, already marching back toward the massive gates.

"I’ll come back for you all in five!" Coco called over her shoulder, her breath puffing into the cold air as she walked.

Behind her, Alhai rolled his eyes, but there was no real annoyance in the gesture, just the usual resigned amusement that came with dealing with Coco’s boundless energy and antics.

"Are you sure it’s okay to just take me and not Renaldo, too?" Jacques asked her friend, eyebrows furrowing.

Coco was in such a hurry to leave the wagon that she didn’t wait for Renaldo and Jonathan to catch up to them, but she didn’t care.

"Yeah, I’m pretty sure." Coco answered, barely looking over her shoulder to glance at her friend. "It’s just three cloaks— four, if my cloak isn’t included inside the box I carried over just now."

The pink haired woman could only blink, half expecting such a nonchalant response from her friend.

"Okay.. Whatever." Jacques sighed, dropping the matter.

The two of them kept walking through snow covered ground and went past the massive gates, Coco’s eyes immediately catching sight of Cleora waving them over.
